Australia Appears to Have Learned Nothing From Previous Foreign Policy Misadventures

One of the more disappointing features of the new Australian Labor government has been its willingness to join the war in Ukraine. The Sydney Morning Herald on last Monday’s date carried an article based on comments made by defence minister and deputy prime minister Richard Marles.  It appears that Mr Marles has learnt nothing from the previous 20+ years of Australia slavishly following the United States into its foreign wars. His comments reported on Monday, share the political blindness of all his predecessors.

One of the outstanding features of that political blindness is an inability to ever put any events into their correct political perspective. In the case of Ukraine, the missing point is the circumstances under which the present government in that country came to power. In 2014 there was a coup d’état in Ukraine. The lawfully elected government was overthrown and replaced by the predecessors of the present government.

There are a number of points arising out of that coup that are worth mentioning because they have a direct relevance to the present situation. The first point is that the coup was not accepted as legitimate by the occupiers of the area referred to as the Donbass. These are two regions of eastern Ukraine that border on Russia.

As a result of the coup there was a meeting of the interested parties, the two semi-autonomous republics, Ukraine, and the allegedly independent European nations of Germany and France. The meeting of these four participants hammered out an agreement in 2014 that was confirmed in a 2015 version. It was meant to guarantee the semi-autonomous status of the Donbass. That never happened. We now have from the Ukrainian side that they never had any intention of complying with their obligations under what was known as the Minsk agreement, named after the place where the agreement had been negotiated

The failure of the Ukrainian government to comply with the obligations was not the only failure in the agreement. That failure was met with a stunning silence by the German and French governments who applied absolutely no pressure on Ukraine to abide by its obligations that have been agreed to under the Minsk agreement.  One could argue that it was the absolute failure of these two European governments to ensure compliance with the treaty that was directly responsible for what subsequently happened.

What happened was that Ukraine in effect declared war on the two eastern regions. For the subsequent seven years following the signing of the agreement, Ukraine has waged war on the Donbass.  The results were plain to all who were prepared to look. Over 15,000 citizens of the Donbass were killed and more than 1 million were forced into exile. Most of those exiled retreated to Russia.

What did the Russians do in response to this blatant disregard of the terms of the Minsk agreement? They in fact did relatively little, largely confining their efforts to providing arms and moral support to the fighters of the Donbass.  It needs to be pointed out, because the Western media never mentions the fact, that the vast bulk of the fighting carried out in the Donbass was done by the troops of that region. The actual involvement of the Russians until very recently was largely confined to providing equipment and moral support.

In December 2021 the Russians issued a list of demands to Washington regarding Ukraine’s future. They included a demand that Ukraine should not join NATO. The Americans made it clear they did not accept the Russian demands, although they never issued a formal response. In February 2022 the Russians gave up waiting and sent their troops into the Donbass region. Putin has recently announced a major upgrading of the Russian military presence in Ukraine. This was accompanied by an announcement that the region would hold a referendum on joining Russia. It seems certain to be overwhelmingly accepted by the voters of the Donbass. This has not stopped the Western politicians and media denouncing the referendum as a sham, a reaction that is of supreme indifference either to the Donbass or the Russians.

A number of countries, including China, Saudi Arabia and Turkey are making efforts to achieve a ceasefire. They fear, with some justification, the United States and United Kingdom wish to fight the Russians to the last Ukrainian may prolong the war and post the very real risk of it being expanded. In this, the statements by Australia’s defence minister are less than helpful. He seems determined that the war should continue, with the obvious hope that Ukraine will ultimately be successful. In this he is deluded.

The only real question is whether or not the Russians will be prepared to stop with the secession of the Donbass from Ukraine and it becoming part of the Russian Federation. My personal view is that they will not stop now, but are likely to continue all the way up the coast, incorporating Odessa also into Russia. This will effectively deprive Ukraine of access to the sea

The tragedy is that all of this could have been avoided. It is a direct result of America’s lust for power that saw them intervene in 2014 and overthrow the legitimate Ukrainian government. All of the present problems flow directly from that coup d’état. The refusal of the Australian media to recognise the real origins of the present troubles is yet another black mark in their reporting of world events.

They persist in treating the present regime in Ukraine as legitimate when even the most cursory examination of its history would reveal that to be a nonsense. The Labor Government has shown a complete lack of independence and insight into the real causes of the present war, preferring instead to mouth the empty platitudes of their American overlords.

There is a glimmer of hope in the efforts currently underway by China, Saudi Arabia and Turkey to reach a resolution of this matter. Those efforts should be encouraged by the Australian government. Instead, they prefer to issue bellicose statements and threats to the Russian government, including the closing of the embassy in Canberra.

In doing so the Australian government has shown exactly the same kind of subservience that saw it involved in other foreign wars on behalf of the Americans.  They show no signs of having learned from these experiences. In the present case that is in a degree of stupidity that makes one despair. Australians deserve better of their government.

      This is amazing. The powder kegs that were carefully crafted at the Diktat of Versailles have been repeated in Crimea, and more so in Donbas. The parallels are palpable – just too astonishing – and contrived by the same ‘hidden hand’. I went investigating further – this from September 1938.

    Brussels overlords and assorted EU leaders, taking turns at the UN General Assembly podium beating the Western war-drums against Russia — all in the interest of “peace,” neglect to ascertain what the average European actually wants.

    Contrary to their leaders’ desires, the average European is only willing to personally give up so much “for Ukraine” — whatever that means, since it’s pretty obvious that the people of Ukraine aren’t benefiting from the current state of perpetual conflict the EU and the US are enabling, either.

    It’s one thing for the average EU citizen to get behind lofty values, voiced from high above the daily struggles if it doesn’t cost them anything. Or at least if the waters are sufficiently muddied that citizens can’t easily connect the dots from their wallet to their leaders’ relentless spending. Selling this seemingly endless conflict in Ukraine, a notoriously corrupt country, as a defense of “democracy,” only works until it means choosing between paying your own bills and paying for all the blank cheques that you’re writing to Kyiv.

    The best time to do so would probably have been between the 2 world wars.

It does rather enhance the appearance of genuine government if we get to see Cabinet Ministers perform, especially as a deputy PM. It makes them all look so busy dealing with real world affairs. Hilarious. This is professionalism, 21st century style.

      But I am being unforgivably negative. We should be proud of our Aussie politicians. At least when making speeches, they don’t articulate the presentation instructions in parenthesis the way Biden does.

Is it just me, that sees the twisted logic in our Government’s support for these CRIMINALS in Ukraine, spending Australian taxpayer’s funds, so these scumbags can squirrel it all away in their off shore accounts, whilst at the same time, Australian Citizens, who believed they were doing the right thing, by signing up to our military, then sent off shore to spread murder and mayhem on behalf of their Masters in Washington. After their tours, they come back home severly mentaly damaged, and physicaly, after witnessing, at first hand, the hypocrisy their own Government was practising, and being unable to deal with that reality, even DENIED the medical help they so badly need, committ suicide. “Hey, here you go Zelensky, here’s another $400 MILLION for you, our troops don’t need it, they’re offing themselves in droves.”

    During 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, FEMA agents perched atop the Louisiana Superdome practiced marksmanship skills on homeless persons seeking refuge in the structure. Some were taken out to sea aboard FEMA barges and thrown overboard as shark food. And in 2017, FEMA looted hundreds of Southeast Texas homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

    Yesterday, however, the regime’s paramilitary force had only ransacked a dozen before meeting an obstacle.

    The White Hat partition of the U.S. military had expected FEMA’s move and sent Special Forces to Southwest Florida immediately after the National Weather Service predicted Ian would make landfall near Fort Meyers. Sources told Real Raw News that U.S. Marine Corps General David H. Berger and 5th Special Forces Commander Col. Brent Lindeman had devised a plan to thwart FEMA’s plans to loot or murder innocent civilians. Lindeman had requested permission to send Special Forces “Alpha Detachments” to the vicinity to protect people and property.

    On Tuesday afternoon, hours before Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ordered the shutdown of airports in Ian’s projected track, a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft touched down at Ft. Meyers International Airport. The plane held six 12-man squads and an equal number of inflatable airboats, each powered by water-cooled, large-displacement, V8 automotive engine rated at 500hp. Special Forces set up a mobile command center in Naples, near Freedom Park where the storm surge was expected to crest.

    “Gen. Berger believes FEMA was acting on orders of administrator Denise Criswell, a truly evil bitch, and Alejandro Mayorkas, a Deep State handler.     During 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, FEMA agents perched atop the Louisiana Superdome practiced marksmanship skills on homeless persons seeking refuge in the structure. Some were taken out to sea aboard FEMA barges and thrown overboard as shark food. And in 2017, FEMA looted hundreds of Southeast Texas homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

    Yesterday, however, the regime’s paramilitary force had only ransacked a dozen before meeting an obstacle.

    The White Hat partition of the U.S. military had expected FEMA’s move and sent Special Forces to Southwest Florida immediately after the National Weather Service predicted Ian would make landfall near Fort Meyers. Sources told Real Raw News that U.S. Marine Corps General David H. Berger and 5th Special Forces Commander Col. Brent Lindeman had devised a plan to thwart FEMA’s plans to loot or murder innocent civilians. Lindeman had requested permission to send Special Forces “Alpha Detachments” to the vicinity to protect people and property.

    On Tuesday afternoon, hours before Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ordered the shutdown of airports in Ian’s projected track, a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft touched down at Ft. Meyers International Airport. The plane held six 12-man squads and an equal number of inflatable airboats, each powered by water-cooled, large-displacement, V8 automotive engine rated at 500hp. Special Forces set up a mobile command center in Naples, near Freedom Park where the storm surge was expected to crest.

    “Gen. Berger believes FEMA was acting on orders of administrator Denise Criswell, a truly evil bitch, and Alejandro Mayorkas, a Deep State handler. FEMA’s motto has been never let a good crisis go to waste. The agency’s historical actions proved that. We fully anticipated they’d take advantage of this hurricane to torment good people. But this time, we were ready for them,” a source in Gen. Berger’s office told Real Raw News.

    At approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, a Special Forces airboat travelling east along West Drive in Naples merged with a FEMA raft heading the opposite direction. The FEMA agents, our source said, tried to shed their official attire—windbreakers with FEMA stamped in yellow ink—when they saw uniformed military encroaching on their position. FEMA’s raft was so overladen with confiscated gold and guns it barely stayed afloat. From 25 yards, the Special Forces commander, shouting through a bullhorn, ordered the FEMA raft to hold position. That’s when all hell broke loose. The FEMA agents raised their rifles, but they were too late; Special Forces unleashed a hailstorm of gunfire, striking both the raft and agents aboard it. The raft deflated, and surviving agents were swept away in the floodwaters.

    “FEMA is still out there, but we’re dealing with them. We’re not letting them threaten storm survivors anymore. We have teams in place, working to safeguard civilians and their property,” our source said.
