When the US says “jump”, THE Australian response is “how high”? (Gumshoe adaption)

By James O’Neill*

One of the more disturbing features of Australian foreign policy is engagement in foreign military activities of minimal importance to Australia’s real military needs. It is a policy that has been pursued by both Liberal and Labor government’s and it has a very long history.

In the post-World War II era, Australia first became involved in the Korean war from 1950 to 1953. As has been well documented, the United States took advantage of the temporary boycotting of the Security Council by Russia, and that the Chinese seat on the UNSC was occupied by the Nationalist regime that had the previous year lost the Chinese Civil War and moved to exile in what was then called Formosa.

The second foreign military adventure was to eagerly join, yet again, its American masters in the conflict in Vietnam. As with Korea, this was essentially a civil dispute between competing factions. Australia’s involvement in that dispute lasted 10 years until the Whitlam Labor government withdrew Australian forces in 1972, thereby earning the lasting distrust of the Americans.  Even the now revealed secretive linkages of the Bob Hawke Labor government to the Americans never fully regained American trust.

The Vietnam misadventure was followed by Australia’s involvement in the invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001. That has only just ended with an unseemly Australian withdrawal from that country hot on the heels of President Biden’s announcement that United States troops would be withdrawn by September of this year. Such was Australia’s unseemly rush for the Afghanistan door that they had failed to make proper provision for the hundreds of Afghanis who had loyally helped them and whose lives are now in danger.

Whether the United States withdrawal actually occurs remains to be seen. The regular force troops are to be replaced by mercenaries, at least 10,000 at last count. An important part of their role will be an attempt to cling onto the lucrative Afghanistan heroin trade, a hugely significant contributor both to United States power and the CIA’s illicit coffers for the past two decades.

The Australian withdrawal from Afghanistan came immediately after Biden confirmed that United States troops would be withdrawn. Without United States approval it is impossible to believe that Australian troops would have been withdrawn. A likely fatality of the withdrawal will be the abandoning by the military prosecuting services of any trial against the Australian soldiers reported having been involved in serious war crimes. The explanation for abandoning the prosecution will be the Taliban and the difficulty of working with them. The Taliban are advancing at the speed that apparently even they did not anticipate, and their taking effective control of the country can now only be a matter of weeks.

The Taliban were initially overthrown because of their alleged refusal to surrender Osama bin Laden, for his equally alleged role in the events of 11 September 2001 in the United States. In fact, the invasion of Afghanistan for multiple reasons was discussed at the first cabinet meeting of the new Bush presidency in January 2001.

Bin Laden was never more than a smokescreen to obscure the real reasons for invading the country which among other reasons including its vast natural resources, and its geography

The Labor Party, which had opposed the initial invasion of Afghanistan, did nothing to withdraw Australian troops during their six years in power. This is a measure of the extent to which Australian governments, regardless of party affiliation, obey their American masters.

The other war that Australia willingly joined despite the complete absence of any identifiable vital Australian interest, was the invasion of Iraq in 2003. They are still there, despite a unanimous resolution of the Iraqi parliament in January 2000 and all uninvited foreign troops should immediately leave their country. Again, the Australians took their cue from the Americans who simply ignored the demand of the Iraqi parliament that they should leave.

There is a similar, but almost completely unmentioned involvement of Australian troops in the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq’s neighbour Syria. Despite the demands of the legitimate Syrian government, United States troops continue to occupy the oil-producing areas of Syria and are stealing their oil on a daily basis.

There is absolutely no justification for United States troops to be in Syria, and their continued occupation there is a perfect illustration of the point that United States concern for what they are pleased to call the “rule of law” is utterly meaningless when their geopolitical goals clash with the rights of the offended country.

It has now emerged, again without Parliamentary debate or even any adverse comment by the Labor opposition, that Australia is involved in the NATO military exercises currently underway in the Black Sea.

It is almost impossible to be further from Australia’s territorial waters, let alone being able to identify a legitimate Australian interest in this clearly provocative baiting of Russia in that country’s territorial waters. As with almost every other Australian military venture, and especially when it totally lacks any real relationship to Australia’s national security interests, discussion on the point is completely absent from the parliament and from local media.

The United States is desperately trying to put together a quartet of countries (with India, Japan, and Australia) to pursue its interests in the region of the world they call the Asia Pacific. In truth, it is no more than an anti-Chinese coalition cobbled together to assist United States geopolitical interests in a region of the world in which they have no business.

China is Australia’s largest trading partner, taking 40% of all its exports. It would be difficult to imagine any action more contrary to its own vital interests, than for Australia to join such a manifestly anti-Chinese grouping.

Unfortunately, as Australia’s entire post-World War II history amply demonstrates, when the United States says “jump”, the only Australian response is “how high”? It is a policy choice that is beneficially not in Australia’s interests, yet one they are intent on pursuing. There will inevitably be a day of reckoning.

  1. A China professor claims in a video that US elites teamed up with China to take control of America.
(This information was first provided in December but is more relevant today.)

If you step back and think about it, this is exactly what has happened. China dropped a COVID bomb a year before the 2020 Election. The medical elites in the government teamed up with radical governors to shut down commerce in the US. Before this, the US was enjoying its best economy ever but China was the opposite, watching businesses leave their country and their economy failing.

China needed a change. President Trump’s policies put the US first in nearly every way. China needed to continue to steal fast-changing technologies in the West and the US was forcing companies to move out of China and to other places, including the US.

Elites in US industry were also happy to engage with China who promises cheap labor. Who cares if the quality is poor, China provides cheap widgets which can be sold at a profit in the US.

Professor Di is Vice Dean at Renmin University’s School of International Relations.

Revolver reports on this story and Di’s comments:

When standing before a friendly crowd of Chinese people, Di has few reservations in describing how U.S.-China relations work.

“Why did China and the U.S. use to be able to settle all kinds of issues between 1992 and 2016? No matter what kind of crises we encountered, be it the Yinhe incident, the bombing of the embassy, or the crashing of the plane, things were all solved in no time, like [a couple] do with their quarrels starting at the bed head but ending at the bed end. We fixed everything in two months. What is the reason? I’m going to throw out something maybe a little bit explosive here. It’s just because we have people at the top. We have our old friends who are at the top of America’s core inner circle of power & influence.”

    Revolver continues:

“In plain and simple language, during the last three to four decades we took advantage of America’s core circle,” he says. “Wall Street has had a very profound influence over America’s domestic and foreign affairs since the 1970s.”

The Trump administration was a brief hiccup in this system, Di said, because President Trump was not under the control of Wall Street or the Wall Street-aligned D.C. establishment. But with the election of Joe Biden, he said, business as usual could soon resume:

“In the U.S.-China trade war they tried to help [us.] My friends in the U.S. told me that: They tried to help, but they couldn’t. Now, with Biden winning the election, the traditional elites, political elites, the establishment, they have a very close relationship with Wall Street.”

US Elites worked with China to overthrow the Trump Presidency and steal the election. Now the Chinese are bragging about their efforts.

  2. Thanks for the article James, and is credit to your motivation for enquiry. But I’m going to just try and wind back some quick observation that seem’s to present here. II believe requires attention as relates to one of the articles premise’s. I am not splitting hairs but …

    ” lucrative Afghanistan heroin trade”

They grow opium, the value adds downstream to get to heroin, are industrail and require those things.(skilled workers, high end factory’s, reliable power etc). I can’t see much capacity even at Kabul Uni beyond a very limited supply.
There is a little area between Vietnam,Laos, Myanmar and Thailand thats viewable if you just wind back the zoom(Mekong Delta, I guess) so that Vietnam presents, both geographically and per article.
I think the carpet bombing thats happened and currently intense in the “middle east”(Syria included) is the “play”. Other stuff is just eye candy.

Why?, to build back better. Its not like, its a secret.

Why is Australia often at the front of the line?. It is a secret, but babe told us its rambarewe(I just can’t help myself one this last point)..

    • Richard… fascinating addition to O’Neill’s article.
Simon… you need to edit. Are you arguing against the existance or extent of the Afghanistan CIA heroin trade?

      • With that, I’m saying there is a conspiricy because of the wider requirments to sometimes tons of heroin producution that is not made in a “humpy” in Afghanistan.. Sometimes seen flashing through the news then “burnt”.

Why say “Afghanistan CIA heroin trade”, do they have the current license.’stuff happens then the British East India Company John(Sassoon’s plus, saw here recently). morph into the “complex”. so to be quick as my… Singapore just down the road and Hong Kong traditional “rat lines” are still operational for that last leg to market. CIA just a tenticle.

        • I think Afghanistan poppy growning region is a fair assessment. Like Tasmania has a license for.
I agree with your edit advice

    • Simon, regarding the Opium/Heroin trade in Afghanistan. Clearly you have not been paying attention over the last 20 years. It is FACT, the Taliban destroyed the opium trade in Afghanistan, with the arrival of the Americans, this trade was encouraged and re-established. There’s ample documentation available if you bother to go back looking for it over the last 20 years. In fact many of these crops were PROTECTED by the U.S. forces, again there’s ample evidence readily available. Do your home work. YES, you are correct, the opium did not get processed in Afghanistan, that’s why PAKISTAN was such good friends of the C.I.A. the opium was transported across the border and processed in Pakistan, then flown out on U.S.A. F. aircraft for distribution. Regarding the “skilled workers” dunno how much involvement you have with the trade, but from my observations, there’s only need of ONE skilled worker to over see the whole process. I don’t believe there’s a shortage of such workers either. The Cartels and the C.I.A. would know exactly where to find them, no difficulty there my man. And license ???? What are you smoking ? Since when do the drug lords require a license, the only license they need is a AK 47. L.O.L.

  3. James,
We know that the secret government in the United States is the same in Oz and all five eye nations. The deep state is crown zionist communist rule by slavemasons. Has been so for 108 years, blaming the people of these nations is pointless cause we the people had and have no say ever. The banksters have dumped the US and Australians, as is clearly now visible on the streetscape. America Britain Canada New Zealand and Australia have been cannon fodder in all wars since ww1. The globe occupied, now they are cleansing the undesirables within, with their new host the CCP. “All wars are banksters wars”, service for profit and genocide by the illuminated poo-bahs. Like footy, there will always be teams where players are broken and bruised by age thirty, yesterday’s heroes. Yet, the pigs on the human farm charge on regardless.

      • Dee,
thanks for trying to inform the readers with some realty; James: THE BANKERS SON, THE BANKERS !!!!!! Why do you never refer to them?

      • I hardly expected anyone with a Yanky accent to be proposing such a reasonable (with some flaws) denunciation of the monopoly of usury in the manipulation of international affairs… the Anglo-American empire is nothing more than the “hit man” or goon for the megalomaniac, narcissistic “chosen” who imagine themselves to be the supreme arbiters of “good and true”.

  4. I reiterate… As was apparent from the Rothschild entry into China’s banking industry around 13 years ago, the global investment banker alliance also runs China, and it was them who sidelined Deng.

I am indebted to Richard for providing additional insight into this takeover.

Everybody needs to get a handle on this. The global elite are the enemy. The People of each country are just cannon fodder. We have no say in anything. We are not responsible for wars, or plastics, or oil spills, or chemical-fertiliser pollution, or fluoride, or global warming, or GM toxicity, or food toxicity, or covid and mRNA.

All of these are the product of the aforementioned elite.

If anything gets up my nose it is academics, scientists, and greenies who condemn HUMANITY for these crimes. These idiots are just as complicit in the crimes as our politicians and bureaucrats because they provide alibis and free PR to the monsters, at the expense of the victims..

    • A very worthwhile point, the stoopids just buy what they see in the shops, what the ads tell them, they copy Hollywood, they behave virtually as automatons – but not quite.
Everything is top-down to the maximum extent, technology, finance and brainwashing are the drivers.
But how would you propose to break through security to get directly at globalists.

    • Orrite, Mr Tony.

No Communist revolutionary ever arose out of a poverty stricken family spending all their resources on their survival. Every leader of a Communist Revolution in recent history was privileged to be ideologically primed and supplied by “Western” misanthropes.

I suspect that you too were not destitute but that your ideology is not formed out of desperation for survival but an antipathy for what remains of Christendom. The poor ole Abos are nothing more than a cudgel to beat remnant Christendom with since none of us are anything more than an accidental accumulation of molecules according to the wisdom of perversity.

Look, y’ blardy drongo, the Rothschild mob didn’t get into China 13 years ago… they owned it from the get go.

      • It’s a devious plot then ( too devious for me at this point ) because Chiangkai Shek defaulted on a huge debt owed to the US when he ran away to Taiwan, this debt has been notionally transferred to the Maoists on the mainland – as far as I heard, I mainly heard because Trump has been trying to resurrect this debt, along with the various other arguments about who owes what.

    • By the way: Mass media, as exposed, we know that you are fakery when referring to Q. Why?
Try and wake up to the fact that your alleged ‘qanon conspirators’ ARE NOT Q.
Basically, the msm is a ‘conspiracy of lies and misinformation’. (Won’t work! keep digging, we love diggers of their own graves. >>>>>>>> class actions?

  5. This seemed topical – Marine Vince Emanuele mentions the “Americans and Australians and the rest who have been to Vietnam and Korea” at 3:12

    • Marine drops Truth Bomb about American War Crimes

I’ll share where I found this a little later once I have had the time to peruse more closely.

But perhaps we need to asking which group represents more than 50% of the Generals in the Pentagon and similarly, more than 50% of the senior staff in the US State Department.

    • Why is this video such a revelation ??? Any veteran that was involved in this disgusting affair would be able to tell you all of this. But hey, no one wants to talk to veterans, everyone Knows they are short of a six pack, besides, no one’s the slightest bit interested in hearing of the crimes their much vaunted military has committed whilst being glorified in the M.S.M. and our Religious centers as doing God’s work. Right ? I’m regularly asked what was it like over there,(Vietnam) I always ask, “Do you really want to hear, or are you just being polite ?” They always say, they want to hear, within the first two minutes, their eyes roll back in their heads and you can see they’ve totally tuned out, because they simply cannot deal with what’s being told. That’s when I tell them,”I can see you can’t deal with, just hearing what I’ve got to say,” So I stop telling them, they simply do not want to hear something that is way out of their leagues and comprehension and the propaganda they have been brought up under.

  6. On topic, if Australia is to stop being a lackey for the US we will have to get nukes and cutting edge delivery systems, is that what is being proposed ? Julie Bishop would be up for it.

    • What is this love affair with nukes Australians seem to be developing ? All of a sudden it’a all about nuclear power, we gotta have, now we gotta have nuclear weapons. Hmmmm, funny that. No one sees the connection there. Without nuclear power, you won’t have nuclear weapons. DUH ! Also you need dedicated nuclear engineers, something we don’t have, and God forbid, hopefully never do. But hey, recently it was pointed out we can’t have nuclear subs because we do not have the infrastructure and engineering skills to operate them. Hmmmm, is it just me, or am I seeing a line of dots developing here ??? Funny thing too, the supporters of nuclear power and weapons, do not say, who is going to finance such, nor do they recognise the FACT, that NOWHERE on this planet, has a nuclear power facility ever been built within TWENTY YEARS. This is bloody funny when you think of it. Say our Idiot Government is stupid enough to green light such an idea, and mysteriously somehow arrange financing, (ask the Brits how their latest venture building a nuc power station is going, that’s currently in mothballs because the financing has CRASHED.) it will still take minimum, TWENTY YEARS or MORE to complete. Then when complete, it takes time to generate the nuclear fuel required to be processed, to make nuclear weapons, another 10 years, L.O.L. by that time, if you listen to the supporters claiming external threats, we’d probably all be speaking fluent Chinese. L.O.L. And the whole exercise totally pointless, but we’d have contaminated many parts of Australia, that were not contaminated previously. Nuclear weapons/power facilities ???? Sorry fellas, the whole idea is totally lacking of brain power.IMHO.

      • Julie Bishop, Malcolm Turnbull and Alexander Downer were our nuclear front desk in waiting. I think the price put everyone off nuclear power (not required if useless eaters could be eliminated), and probably there is enough plutonium now to blow up the whole planet 10 times over, so the viability is even worse.
All the same, Russia developed it’s delivery system (mach 17) around the same time they got completely off USD (Federal Reserve Note) hegemony. The attraction of printing your own money and exporting it is not lost on emperors, going back to Caesar and beyond. Jesus was assassinated for related reasons.
It helps to be in a really cold country if you decide to go nucular, you can heat-exchange the cooling water if you plan it right and of course solar is not an option in Siberian winter.

        • On contamination, Hiroshima has been completely rebuilt.
I’m not pro nucular in some way, just like to cut through to the reality of things.
If you’re fully nuked up, you get left alone.

        • OK w3.
I had considered that you may be ahead of the curve.
          I wonder. However, just search:
‘Nuclear assets weapons being sabotaged by aliens’
Have fun. This is very old stuff.

          • Air force pilots always say the ETs came alongside and turned the power off in their jet, I also heard it personally from a navy officer I used to know. I don’t believe the ETs would be able to understand or predict US politics so when they saw Bush and Rockerfellas taking over from 1963 they probably went into a panic. They might have calmed down by now, they might have more faith in Putin. I too would go for RT channel over Fox.
This from an astronaut story is quite funny:
‘”n a final irony, the very conspiracy theorists who believe Edgar Mitchell when he talks about aliens don’t believe him when he talks about his moon mission, because they think it was all done on a film set.”
How the ETs avoided being fried in the Van Allen radiation belts I will leave to others …

    • W3 your first comment in this bracket is bullshit. Australia would need nuclear weapons, crap. Countries that don’t have N/Weapons are not being invaded that is just Cabal propaganda. What South American country has nuclear, for example? The Cabal would like every country nuclear armed, firstly to further enrich the Cabal and secondly to make every country even more scared of each other. What a bigger field day for the Intelligence Agencies in each country making up stories on each other.

  7. Aus served as GB’s minion in the Boer war and WW1. Is it really that hard to figure out that not long after the latter we were handed over to the yanks?

Well I guess it could be argued that, as nature abhors a vacuum, they were just sort of drawn in.

  8. The Samson option is mutually assured destruction. Under every major city globally, enough to blow up this planet and the rest of the solar system with it. They got us by the balls, 911 and now crown virus remains unchallenged. For some war remains good business, as now most believe that vaccines made in bioweapon labs will save them from a virus, yet to be proven to exist, aside from the injections. The depth of cunning kraft unbelievable, but here we are, the unvaccinated the new terrorists in the new normal of permanent lockdown Huawei (who are we eye) style.
Ok if connected, if not pray.

    • Eric Clapton and Van Morrison, ‘stand and deliver’ and ‘no more lockdown’, good songs calling the bs as is. Listen if inclined.

    • Huawei the largest Chinese multinational technology company is owned and operated by the International Banking Cartel. It is the largest telecommunications manufacturer in the world.
China and Israel are tied at the hip, Tel Aviv is David dictating Goliath Beijing. Secret masters in London and New York have sealed the deal.
Communism by banksters in China has established concentration camps for slave workers. China is used as the NWO laboratory for the expanding totalitarian technocracy workdwide.
Israel owns China and 5 eyes nations, enforcing the most invasive spying and surveillance, the world has never seen. This is how they will collapse the global economic system to make way for the BS.

      • The only thing I am skeptical about concerns who is the front man and who is the real power. For example if VP Nelson Rockerfella was a jew it would have been put about, consider everyone always knew Kissinger was a jew. What if Rotschilds were the front man for Swissy ? Rotschilds were paid with Israel and other goodies. The story that the pharaohs migrated through Rome and Venice to Switzerland (and beyond) seems plausible. Where did the pharaohs go ??? They were experts at slavery etc long before Rome gained ascendancy. And who were the antagonists to the pharaohs – the jews !!! The jews denied the pharaohs their “god-king” status and got kicked out for their trouble. So in this analysis, the pharaohs are Coke and the jews are Pepsi. As you know Coke hides behind many other brands, such as Mt Franklin water (pagan ceremonial site), Barista Bros UHT chocolate milk, Fruitopia sugar water drinks, about 100 different brands.
Is Swissy hiding behind the jews ??? It seems likely. Where better to hide than in the Alps, with tunnels full of gold, a militarised population, ringed by the EC but independent – it’s hiding in plain sight. All the evidence would seem to point at Swissy.

        • I really don’t know who the illuminati are, never meet them, thank God for that.
Coming from a village of 1000, there were as many ideologies as inhabitants, some good, a bit of both, and some really twisted evil bastards. When the communists came after ww2, true colours came to full view, they confiscated the house my father built with his dad and that’s why I’m here. Coming to the land of fair go in ’66 life was much better, prosperity where small business flourished. All was well, till I became a carpenter sub-contractor in Sydney, where I experienced exploitation and injustice, as have many walking in similar shoes. You are correct, the bloodsuckers come from all creeds and races, some more privledged than most. Fair go has been replaced by fare go, the rot has set in, absolutely corrupted attracted to the easy pickings here of the naive majority. Current events revealing truth for those that want to see it, sadly time is short, with wolves leading us sheep to apocalypse. The jabs are the beast system, avoid it if you can.

nb; with small business now experiencing extinction, interesting how Mr.Westfield sold out recently, helps to know events in advance for the connected. That’s all this place is. Banksters have sucked the blood of this nation dry and now they are changing the blood with murder by injection.

  9. “Because the satanic BS (beast system) has now fully exposed itself, it has no choice but to go full bore in its attempt to lockdown the entire planetary civilization. World Holocaust Organization.
Bottom line: Every Institutional Entity within the Beast System has experienced a complete collapse of trust worldwide since Covid-19 was first named. In point of fact, the political, medical, scientific, legal, academic, and other influential systems have forever lost trust of the people. Similarly, governments at every level have irreversibly suffered the loss of faith of the governed, which is necessary to continue this Covid ruse.
What these Covid super-criminals have done so far is so far outrageously barbaric that they have created a ‘do or die’ dilemma for themselves.
That the NWO globalist cabal even imagined that they could maintain this criminal conspiracy and cover-up smacks of such a degree of hubris and arrogance never witnessed in recorded history.”

“………..In 1986, bin Laden brought heavy construction equipment from Saudi Arabia to Afghanistan. Using his extensive knowledge of construction techniques (he has a degree in civil engineering), he built “training camps”, some dug deep into the sides of mountains, and built roads to reach them.

These camps, now dubbed “terrorist universities” by Washington, were built in collaboration with the ISI and the CIA. The Afghan contra fighters, including the tens of thousands of mercenaries recruited and paid for by bin Laden, were armed by the CIA. Pakistan, the US and Britain provided military trainers…………”

  11. http://www.mideastfacts.com/ostrovsky_111097.html

“….Most of what we read about al Qaeda and bin Laden is a CIA/ Mossad fiction, always based on fictional ‘informed sources’. Al Jazzeera is now a CIA asset (based on my research). IMHO, they are designed to funnel hatred towards bin Laden and stimulate the fictional ‘terrorism’ mania gripping American now.

BIN LADEN IS JEWISH, full stop. A very close friend and a MOST eminent Israeli journalist told me recently, that according to Jewish law -bin Laden is Jewish, as his mother is Jewish(!).

AND — if that is not enough, this irrefutably honest Israeli journalist, disclosed to me personally that bin Laden’s mother’s family lives in Israel (I will not print here the exact address which he provided me). I knew that bin Laden was Jewish long time ago, but with the current war hysteria I never mentioned to anyone except to my husband. The fact that bin Laden is Jewish, is known in Israel, but the ‘free’ ‘democratic’ ‘press’ of Israel will NOT publish it, as we have to continue to promote the myth that he is a ‘villain’.

Actually, I will not be surprised if bin Laden is living now in Israel, and the Mossad is ‘laughing all the way to the bank’ ! When Israel and Bush finally will control all world’s countries, I am confident that bin Laden will be invited as an honored guest.

    https://www.cirnow.com.au/who-owns-australia/

It is so sad to see you people wasting so much time chasing down dead ends. I will confidently state that neither the Chinese nor any other foreigner owns land in Australia. I will also confidently state no Australian owns land in Australia. What did Captain Cook do when he landed on these shores? Planted a flag and claimed the land for the crown. 13. People’s Bank of China (PBOC)
    By Will Kenton
    Updated Apr 17, 2020
What Is the People’s Bank of China (PBOC)?

The People’s Bank of China is the central bank of the People’s Republic of China and is located in Beijing.
Understanding the People’s Bank of China (PBOC)

The PBOC was established on Dec. 1, 1948, and is responsible for monetary policy and fiscal regulation in Mainland China. The PBOC is one of the largest central banks in the world, with over $3 trillion in foreign exchange reserves. The Huabei Bank, the Beihai Bank, and the Xibei Farmer Bank were consolidated to form the PBOC after the Chinese Communist Party’s victory and the creation of the People’s Republic of China.

In September 1982, the State Council decided that the PBOC should become the central bank. The bank’s first headquarters were in Shijiazhuang, Hebei and were later moved to Beijing in 1949. Between 1950 and 1978, the PBOC was the only bank in the nation and oversaw both central banking and commercial banking operations. All other banks within Mainland China, such as the Bank of China, were either divisions of the PBOC or did not accept deposits.
Responsibilities of the People’s Bank of China

The PBOC is responsible for drafting laws and regulations for its financial functions, including implementing monetary policy to maintain financial stability and economic growth in China. Additional responsibilities involve setting interest rates, regulating financial markets, issuing the Renminbi currency for circulation, regulating interbank lending and the interbank bond market, managing foreign exchange and recording foreign currency transactions.

Public companies in China are funded by the PBOC. Funding for companies was previously provided through grant transfers by the state. The State-Owned Bank, under the direct supervision of the PBOC, manages grant transfer operations.
Management and Structure of the People’s Bank of China

The bank is run by a board of directors. The PBOC’s is run by Governor Yi Gang, along with 5 deputy governors and a chief inspector.1?

The PBOC has nine regional branches located in Tianjin, Shenyang, Shanghai, Nanjing, Jinan, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Xi’an, plus two operations offices in Beijing and Chongqing, 303 municipal sub-branches and 1,809 county-level sub-branches.
People’s Bank of China and Interest Rates

The interest rate set by the bank was historically always divisible by nine instead of by 25 as is the case for the rest of the world. However, the central bank began to increase rates by 0.25% on Oct. 19, 2010, and the interest rate is now divisible by 25. The PBOC’s foreign exchange reserves have grown from $416 billion in 2004 to close to $3.7 trillion in 2015, which is the result of a consistently positive balance of payments (BOP) over the years. Its reserves have fallen to $3.06 trillion in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis as of the end of March 2020.2?
