Australia Should be the Last Country to Accuse the Russians of Aggression

The Australian government has announced that it is imposing sanctions upon Russia as a response to the move by the Russian government to send troops into the Donbass region where the inhabitants have been subjected to threats and bombardment from Ukrainian forces. The hypocrisy in the government’s position, and that of its Western allies, including the United Kingdom, United States and most of Europe is breathtaking. The western media have suffered a similar blankness as to history.

It is entirely overlooked, in their defence of the Ukraine regime, that it came to power in 2008 as the result of an American inspired and assisted coup against the then legitimate government of Ukraine. The president was forced to flee for his life.

That coup had two immediate consequences. The first was that the people of Crimea decided that they wanted to apply to re-join Russia, from which it had been arbitrarily separated by then Russian President Khrushchev in 1954. Neither the Russian parliament nor the people of Crimea were consulted about that decision. The western media persistently refers to the “annexation” of Crimea by Russia in 2008. In fact, the Crimean’s held a referendum and voted by an overwhelming majority (more than 90%) to apply to re-join Russia. Which they duly did.

A second major event was that the two Russian speaking republics of the Donbass also decided that they wished not to be governed from Kyiv and also broke away. This caused a crisis in the relationship. As a means of resolving the crisis the two Western powers of France and Germany organised a conference in which all the parties, including the two breakaway republics and Ukraine, agreed on a formula for a resolution of the crisis. (The so-called Minsk agreement).

Ukraine has never complied with its obligations under the Minsk agreement. This willful ignoring of the agreement’s provisions was tolerated by France and Germany. For the succeeding eight years, Ukraine has waged war against the two breakaway regions. They have been unsuccessful, not least because of Russian assistance provided to the two breakaway republics.

The farce of Ukraine’s non-compliance with its obligations, which has been compounded by its systematic discrimination against the Russian language used in Ukraine, has never been brought to an end. Russia has now openly sent troops into the Donbass region and has declared the death of the Minsk agreement.

The reaction of the West is the personification of hypocrisy. For eight years they tolerated Ukraine’s willful ignoring of its obligations under an agreement they had signed. They also remained silent as Ukraine passed legislation that systematically discriminated against a significant minority of its population. It was blatant defiance of an agreement that the Morrison government, and its predecessors, the Abbott and Turnbull government had also ignored. It is the height of hypocrisy for the government to now protest about the decision of the two republics to leave this farce, and for the support, they have been offered by the Russians.

The sense of hypocrisy is heightened when one recalls the actions of the Australian government in supporting a whole raft of violations of international law by the United States allies. In this century alone, Australia has been a party to the invasion and occupation (for 20 years) of Afghanistan, all justified by the patent nonsense of the Taliban government being responsible for sheltering Osama bin Laden, the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks on Washington DC and New York City. The Taliban had, not unreasonably, asked for proof of bin Laden’s culpability, which was ignored.

That bin Laden reportedly died of natural causes at the end of 2001, with his obituary appearing in the New York Times, no less, was no barrier to his alleged capture and execution years later by United States forces. Even with bin Laden dead again, the United States and Australian occupation of Afghanistan continued for a further decade. Both main political parties share responsibility for this shameful episode.

Australia similarly joined in the invasion and occupation of Iraq in 2003, despite their claims of Iraqi possession of “weapons of mass destruction” having been rebutted by an international group of United Nations investigators.

Australia still occupies Iraq, despite a demand from the Iraqi government in 2021 that they should leave. It is extremely difficult to reconcile this blatantly illegal occupation of another country, that has never threatened Australia, with the professed concern for international law which the Australian prime minister is now uttering about Russian action to defend the Donbass.

The United States is in fact the greatest violator of international law the world has ever seen. In addition to Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States has interfered in a range of countries this century, including the murder of Gaddafi in Libya and the illegal occupation of Syria since 2014. In the latter case, the United States compounds the felony of its occupation by the theft of Syria’s oil, blatantly mining and selling the oil in complete defiance of international law, and ignoring the protests of the Syrian government.

On all these issues, and many more that could be cited, Australia maintains silence, its acquiescence to United States criminality an ongoing disgrace. Australia was quick to recognise the Republic of Kosovo, created by that country unilaterally separating from Serbia. It is now home to one of the United States’ largest overseas military bases. The Australian government was, and remains, silent on the rights of Serbia to the breakaway region.

It is telling that their silence on this issue was not matched by an equal silence on the decision of the two Donbass republics to end the farce of their continued relationship with Ukraine.

But then, consistency and adherence to principle is not a mode of behaviour one associates with Australia’s current government.

If ever there was a case for pro bono it is now but I have yet to hear of lawyers who perceive a patriotic duty, or even a duty to humanity.

They flip patients at 10 minute intervals or 6 minutes if they’re really greedy.       Lavrov added that Russia could not remain indifferent to the DPR and LPR’s appeal for defence against the aggressor. He noted that the Russian special operation in Donbass is being carried out to allow Ukrainians to choose their own future once they are freed from the oppression of the current regime.

          The truth is Russia had no choice but to recognize the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. By doing so, Moscow is affording the territories a critical security guarantee that might spare them from the criminal aggression of the NATO-backed Kiev regime.

          This was made necessary because of the mounting offensive coming from the NATO-backed Kiev regime. Since last week, thousands of mortars and shells have hit the self-declared Donbass republics, fired by the US and NATO-backed Ukrainian forces.

    • The hook that got me in was the absolute certainty some of these people have about “the plan” and the superhuman abilities of Mein Trumpf, which I certainly hope is justified.
      The calculation now is that the US could not attack Ukraina ( in order to wipe out funding for the Deep State ) so the agreement was that Putin would do it, under Biden’s watch, to assist Biden in undermining himself, which he is good at doing anyway.
      They go on to say Trump learned Russian at his military school, possibly Chinese and Korean too. With the history of Russian wives he must have very good Russian by now.

  35. My guess wars of this nature centre around oil and gas pipelines. Russia has a fair amount of pipeline infrastructure in the Ukraine with some being main feeders going west into Europe and south-west into Turkey through Romania.
    How much has this energy source from Russia supplying most of Europe got to do with the hesithency and the disruption of the Green energy plan of the west and its Oligarchs.(A signal of this was the mouthpiece John Kerry this week). Putin invasion into the whole Ukraine as opposed to just the two independent States has got the west off guard in their endeavour to control the flow of oil and gas from central and western Ukraine.

People must understand that the same small cabal of Zionist billionaires are the majority owners of all of them. Our governments are throwing billions of dollars at these companies to come up with a vaccine for Covid 19. A totally unnecessary vaccine and one that will take the lives of many who receive it. AstraZeneca’s vaccine has already killed one of the volunteers who agreed to take it. I seriously doubt if Mr Rothschild or Mr Gates or any of the investors in AstraZeneca gives a shit.
