Australia Will Pay a Price for its Adherence to United States Aggression

The recent revelation that former Australian Prime Minister, the late Bob Hawke, had been secretly in touch with the American authorities during his prime ministership helps to explain much of Australia’s foreign policy decisions during his time in power.

The stance of the Labor Party more generally to questions of foreign relations then and especially now, is one of the great disappointments of those in the electorate who imagine themselves to be on the left of the political spectrum.

This is especially true when one examines the record of the Labor Party on questions of foreign policy in the Hawke years and subsequently. When the United States invaded Afghanistan, a decision taken months before the ostensible reason of the events of 11 September 2001, Australia was one of the first countries in the so-called West that loyally decided that they too would join this blatant act of aggression.

The decision to send Australian troops to Afghanistan was opposed at the time by the Labor Party. That was the honourable and correct decision to make. When the Labor Party assumed power however, in 2003, the government of the Prime Minister Kevin Rudd did not do anything about bringing the Australian troops home. When Rudd was replaced by Julia Gillard that policy remained unchanged.

The Labor Party has now been in opposition since losing the 2013 election. If there has been any change in their foreign policy stance during their years in Opposition they have managed to keep it a well-held secret. They now enjoy a comfortable lead in the polls with public support for the government dissipating by the day.

In the many and well-founded attacks upon prime minister Scott Morrison and his Liberal-National coalition government, the Labor Party is entirely silent upon his foreign policy. One of those outstanding characteristics is that Morrison displays a slavish adherence to the United States. There could be no clearer illustration of this than his recent ill-informed criticisms of the government of China. In attacking China, and in particular its alleged role as the source of the current coronavirus epidemic sweeping the world, Morrison is slavishly following the examples sit by the former president of the United States Donald Trump, with whom he had a particularly obsequious relationship.

That China is Australia’s largest trading partner by far, taking approximately 40% of all Australian exports, seems immaterial to Morrison and his government. The Chinese have already drastically reduced imports of many Australian products. As recently as this past weekend, the Australian trade minister was quoted as saying that the Chinese refuse to accept his telephone calls, let alone answer them.

Again, the Labor Party is strangely silent on this attitude of the government toward the Chinese. The party’s foreign policy spokesperson, Penny Wong, has not bothered to hide her antipathy towards the government of China. It would be a cold day in hell before she made any positive statements about China and the need for Australia to modify their blatantly anti-China stance.

One of the great ironies of the present situation is that Australia’s exports to China, which have been blocked by the Chinese government in obvious retaliation for the country’s foreign policy stance, have been replaced by the Americans, in whose name and all whose behalf, the economically suicidal statements of the Australian government were ostensibly made.

Apart from Afghanistan, the Australian government has been actively supporting the United States and other foreign policy misadventures. Eighteen months ago, the government of Iraq demanded that all foreign troops should leave their territory. There was a shocked silence from the Australian government, whose first instinct was to look to the Americans. When the latter announced that they were intending to stay, the Australian government followed suit. Again, the Labor Party was silent, although it is an indisputable fact that the invasion of Iraq was based on a series of lies by the United States government.

There is also evidence that the Australian government has been a party to the United States occupation of Syria, for which there is even less evidence to justify the stance of the Americans. The latter appear to have two main goals in Syria; to support their proxies in the rebel movement, and to steal Syrian oil. Their latter action is particularly egregious and is no more than theft. The silence of the Australian government on this egregious conduct speaks volumes for the state of Australian foreign policy.

The major question to be asked about the conduct of the Australian government and Opposition is why? The answer lies in the experiences of the Whitlam government (1972–75), the last Australian government to actually display a degree of independence from the United States foreign policy. It will be recalled that the Whitlam government both acknowledged the Beijing government as the government of China, (much to the consternation of the then Liberal opposition) and withdrew Australian troops from its involvement in the Vietnam war.

It is well documented now that the latter action particularly infuriated the United States government. With the active assistance of United States agent and governor general of Australia, John Kerr, the United States plotted to overthrow the Whitlam government. This they achieved in a blatant coup in 1975.

In my view that experience scarred the Labor Party who since then have not shown any serious opposition to United States actions, joining at least two illegal wars, and currently joining naval actions designed to hinder China in both the South China Sea and the Straits of Hormuz.

As noted above, the current actions of the Australian government are clearly economically suicidal. They are compounded by Australia’s willing participation in a four nation anti-China alliance (with the United States, India and Japan). And the Australian government has the temerity to act surprised and hurt when the Chinese refused to take the telephone calls of ministers.

It would be naïve to expect any change in foreign policy after the next election which the Labor Party is on track to win. Australia is paying a high price for its adherence to United States belligerence, but it seems not high enough to force a much-needed change of policy.

          • Don’t worry about Trump’s bluster, but on the matter of “ww3 with China (sic)”, China is a developing country and surely the US has had enough of that stuff. All the same, there is some fraction of a chance that Trump detractors are right !!! It adds to the interest. I’m not in denial, I just think by looking at the public aphorisms, it’s pretty much implausible. Things he has said such as “A lot of people have told me they had their babies injected and they went autistic”. There are a whole bunch of these types of statements.

    Respectfully, unless you understand the role and backers of both the Aust.     The Fabian Society. Formed in 1884 by Crown charter a group paid for by the Rothschilds set up specifically to infiltrate and coerce political parties.     Regarding Freemasonry and Politicians there is published research which shows that few Aust. politicians are not either members, affiliates or educated in a Fabian sponsored school and this explains why they can ‘take the pledge’ (not to rat on their compatriots) right or wrong, regardless of the pledges they take to ‘serve the people’.

      • What’s left of Australia’s exports to China is in one large part run through Rotschild’s Rio Tinto and in another large part through BHP Billiton (probably mostly owned in London) so if Rotschilds are running the red government that’s presumably the direct link and why Western Australia is safely locked up while places like Melbourne are being dismembered.

    • Yesterday, early on, I checked my phone for latest news. Very interesting articles thereon. First article was about contract for our ALLEGED build/purchase of submarines. Turns out now, we might cancel the program, forget about the funds expended so far, and possibly look abroad to purchase completed subs. However, and such subs would not be ready until 2038 at the earliest.
      Article number two. Apparently Australia has signed and agreement with German manufacturer to build 500.(YES, that’s correct 500) armoured vehicles for our military. Manufacturer has established production facilities in QLD, but turrets and cannon for these vehicles are manufactured in Germany. Turns out because of the armour requirements, these turrets will now be TOO HEAVY for the vehicles, AND the shells required for the cannon can only be German produced shells, thus all shells need to be purchased from Germany. (dunno how that’s going to work out for storage/transport/costs. That’s not the end of it. These vehicles have EIGHT wheels/tires and turns out the tires are ONLY manufactured in FRANCE. So if these things get a tire blown off/up they are in big trouble, no spares. L.O.L.
      There was much made of the expenditure so far and the estimated costs in the long run and it turns out Australia would be in Hock for the rest of the century.
      This is the very same Government that looks down it’s noses at the Chinese, whom they consider inferior, and could wipe out our military in the first 10 minutes of any engagement, leaving us without any means at all of defense, despite the billions of tax payer’s funds spent.
      Oh, nearly forgot the helicopters recently purchased from Europe, turns out said helicopters are unsuitable, cannot be fitted with machine guns at the sides, doors are not wide enough, (can you believe this, who are the IDIOTS in Canberra sitting on the design/purchase teams) anyway, they reckon that can be resolved. Then recently these helicopters developed a terrible vibration coming from the rear rotor, so far they haven’t worked out what the problem is, BUT all the helicopters are now grounded as a consequence, until the issue is resolved. B.T.W. these helicopters were supposed to play a big part in the QUAD exercises planned off the coast N.Q. but now the whole thing will require replanning to do without the helicopters being grounded.

    • Yes “China” is sloppy and “vaccines” is obsequious. The CCP is as bad as any other Asian dictatorship. But now they are being ganged up on by everyone, even the Philippines are emboldened.
