Bad Choices by the Australian Government Look Incapable of Repair

When I was a child, one of the catchphrases I was taught is: as you sew,

so shall you reap. In other words, every action has a consequence. Everyone behaves in a certain way, then there are consequences of that behaviour. It may not be to your liking, so one should always be careful of one’s actions.

This adage has become abundantly clear in Australia’s relationship with China. That relationship, once so profitable to this country, has been sinking fast. The reason for that deterioration can be laid squarely at Australia’s door.

It began about two years ago when the singularly inept prime minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, raised the question of the role of China in introducing the Covid-19 virus to the world. In fact, as he has recently been clearly shown, the virus is of United States origin, cultivated is the laboratory in Maryland and introduced to China by its athletes attending the world military games. That large numbers of the American team were not in fact athletes was evidenced in part by their failure to win a single gold medal, the first time this has happened to an American team.

The Chinese were understandably furious at Morrison’s remarks. They immediately applied sanctions to a range of Australian goods. The sanctions hit the Australian producers hard. To date, the loss of this trade amounts to more than $20 billion. One of the consequences of the sanctions was that China had to look elsewhere to purchase those products previously bought from Australia. The primary beneficiary of the sanctions applied to Australian goods has been the United States. It is one of the huge ironies of this embargo that the ill-considered words of the Australian Prime Minister, no doubt made with the encouragement of the Americans, has been a boost in exports for the American producers at the expense of their Australian equivalents.

It is little wonder that the Australian media have been largely silent on this uncomfortable truth. Australia exposes itself on behalf of the Americans who in turn became the chief beneficiaries of the resulting trade fallout on Australia. Irony does not come more clearly than this.

The figures for coal exports make the point abundantly clear. In the first half of 2020, the United States exported 531,000 tons of coal to China. Following the Chinese ban on Australian imports, the United States figures leapt by more than 900% to 5,400,000 tons over the same period in the previous year.

The story for thermal coal shows a similar pattern. From 50 million tons in 2018 and 2019 the figures dropped thereafter, with zero thermal coal being exported to China in November 2020. They have not improved since

The Chinese position was made very clear by foreign affairs spokesman Zhao Lijian who said that no country will be allowed “to reap the benefits from doing business with China while groundlessly accusing and smearing China and undermining China’s core interests.”

At around the same time as Morrison’s ill-advised remarks about the virus, the Government also made the politically motivated decision to ban the Chinese company Huawei from its 5G network. There was absolutely no valid reason for the ban. It was instead a politically motivated decision, and again made on behalf of the Americans.

The question one has to ask is, why does Australia allow itself to be put in the position where it loses a significant portion of its largest trading export market with no obvious benefit to be seen in exchange for the pain? In particular, how does Australia allow itself to become the sacrificial lamb pursuing United States interests, when the chief beneficiary of those actions is the United States itself.

The answer to that question surely lies in the nature of the United States-Australia relationship. Since the 1975 US-orchestrated overthrow of the Labor government of Goff Whitlam, Australian foreign policy has been one of continuous subservience to United States interests. This was reflected in the invasion of Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, none of whom constituted a vital security interest for Australia.

More recently it may be seen in Australia joining the four-nation (with the United States, India, and Japan) an ostensibly anti-China alliance in the even more recent AUKUS (Australia, United Kingdom and the United States) deal which has a singular purpose of opposing the Chinese rise to world prominence. The first mentioned quartet cannot be simply labelled “anti-China” given the position of India.

That country not only resists the careless use of labels that attempt to define its position, but is actually following a far more subtle and complicated path. The foreign ministers of Russia, China, and India recently held their 18th meeting, held electronically.

Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and Indian external affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar believed that strengthening solidarity and cooperation between three countries was in line with the building of a multipolar world, which has also played a positive role in promoting global peace, stability and growth. They said that the three countries should firmly maintain the composition of the United Nations, family upholding the principle of sovereign equality, in support of true and effective multilateralism.

At the end of the meeting, the three foreign ministers issued a lengthy joint statement, noting their common commitment to peace and stability in the region and beyond. It is impossible to reconcile the sentiments expressed by the three foreign ministers with the blatantly anti-China rhetoric of the AUKUS position, or indeed the four-nation group which includes India.

India remains the odd man out in that group as indeed to a lesser extent is Japan. Under its new prime minister Fumio Kishida Japan is making an effort to improve relations with China, that is now its largest trading partner.

That leaves Australia, which as noted, has effectively ceded conduct of its foreign policy to the Americans. It is a position that they will come to regret. The experience with the China trade is a hint of the United States’ real attitude to its Australian ally. Unfortunately, the signs are not good. Apart from the disastrous policy to surrender its sovereignty over the new submarines, for which it will wait an extraordinary 20 years, there have been recent announcements of increased military visits by United States forces to Australian ports.

It is unlikely that the Labor Party, currently tipped to win the next election only a few months away, will change course from the current obsequiousness to United States wishes. The country will undoubtedly rue the day it surrendered its freedom to being little more than an American lackey.

So it seems they plan to circumvent the Australian Treasury and issue “credits” direct from the bowels of Switzerland. The RBA governor suggests all this might happen very quickly. Your e-AUD will have no signature or serial number and it may at some point have an expiry date. You should anticipate using it on any foreign excursions and for foreign remittances. Swissy will have total control over you, and with any negative social credit score you might suddenly find yourself asset stripped.

    • China is in a worse position than many people think. The growth in China with Western IP over so many decades could have been all part of a Globalist plan with controlling the CCP.
      This became evident yesterday with Evergrande finally declaring bankruptcy. Defaulting on 300bil owed to bond holders with one of the most significant foreign bond holders being Blackrock group. Who owns all those real estate assets in China now. CCP may put on a staunch face but do they have enough bail out funds for all these companies that will follow the same path.             Actually I was just thinking that particular point was begging for clarification. The old competing empires Egypt and Rome started at some time BC and never died, instead went underground, in a process that took centuries, but led by (I would guess) Alexander Helios.
            The jews were presumably used for usury since they could be easily segregated and controlled, marginalised and even purged if they got out of hand.
            By “anointed” I mean the rise of Rotschilds as the public image of multi-national banking.

  6. James, your premise for this article is based on the eruption of the Wuhan flu as not coming out of a CCP laboratory. Sharri Markson, Sky News, did a real investigative journalist’s job of unearthing the origins of the Wuhan Flu – I would strongly urge that you at least take note of what she uncovered and then attempt to realign your geopolitical thinking accordingly.

    And you second paragraph could have been shortened by simply adopting a very wise man’s saying from two thousand years ago: ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’

    • Terry, this is not news. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been at Coles or Woolies check outs and the power failed or the IT system spat the dummy. All the supporters of plastic stood there like stale bottles of piss, totally at a loss, check out chick would not even accept my cash, because the IT system was not functioning and thus stock out an in was not being recorded. So nothing could be sold, despite having cash in my pocket. It was also pointed out to me, in Europe there are very few Eftpos machines, and folks carry cash and prefer cash transactions.
