When I was doing a Botany degree in the 70s, I remember many of our discussions were focused around the Amazon — and the destruction of it. It seemed hopeless even back then. But the destruction accelerated and deforestation became the ‘norm’.
One thing we all understood in those days was: fracture the ecosystem at your peril. Slashing and burning large areas cannot be measured in square kilometers. The fringes of the forest immediately become vulnerable, as their ecosystem no longer has its normal protections. The older and more vulnerable species become more exposed. The diversity of the forest declines.
William Laurance and his team have written their findings in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, stating that fragmenting the forest creates more edges — exposing trees that would normally have been protected by other trees. After 22 years of research Laurance recently says,
“Rain forest trees can live for centuries, even millennia, so none of us expected things to change too fast … but in just two decades — a wink of time for a thousand year-old tree — the ecosystem has been seriously degraded.”
We also often hear that the Amazon forest are the “lungs” of the globe. This is a catch phrase that’s been an attention grabber for decades. But as Allison Mills, associate director of research communications at Michigan Technological University, points out,
“It doesn’t really make much sense. There are many, many reasons to be concerned — nay, terrified — by the resurgence of deforestation and burning of Amazonian forests, but a risk to the world’s oxygen supply is not one of them.”
The Amazon may produce a lot of oxygen, by some measures, but its plants and animals then use up most of it.
You often hear, “The area the size of a football field of Amazon rainforest is being cleared every single minute.” Maybe what should be added is, “…making a further two fields of forest susceptible to degradation.
And that is exactly what is happening. Clearing begets fires begets more clearing begets fires and more deforestation. Or should I say — opportunists use fires to facilitate clearing, and expansion.
For What Purpose?
As it turns out, agriculture is the primary driver of deforestation — bringing in cattle or planting crops like soybeans. Nevertheless, they’ve set themselves up for failure. Weirdly enough, the Amazon soil is poor in nutrients. “It’s called the paradox of luxuriance,” says ecologist Emilio Bruna (wired.com), “You look at the Amazon and you think this is the garden of Eden, you can plant anything here and it’s going to grow. But what people don’t realize is that those trees have over millennia evolved really efficient nutrient extraction mechanisms.”
Add to this reduced rainfall, higher temperatures, recent droughts, more fires, and you have recipe to wipe out huge tracts of forest. Plants release moisture, but as the forest areas decline, there’ll be a decline in precipitation, which in turn leads to a general drying out.
That is not only be a bad thing for South America, but also for other regions of the world. Researchers claim that that a shrinking Amazon rainforest would mean significantly less rainfall for North America’s coastal northwest region, and approximately 50 percent less snow for the Sierra Nevada – hence less water flowing into rivers.
I see one of the major issues is the decline of biodiversity, and we don’t really know what that will do to the planet’s future. When the forest becomes fragmented, and carved up, it creates islands of forest. But an island won’t “behave” or be as resilient as the “whole”, and animals essentially become hostage to that location — many not willing or able to cross open land.
Deep in the Amazon, it’s cooler and more humid, “with the multitudinous trees dominating the climate.” The fringes of the forest islands begin to dry and change. At the edges, humidity drops, temperatures rise and the whole ecosystem becomes stressed. And this is not the same as California’s drier landscape, which is well adapted to burn.
In my homeland, South Africa, there are many plants in the Western Cape that rely on fires — with seeds lying dormant for decades until a wildfire awakens them. The fynbos there even requires a cycle of fires of from six to forty-five years. But the Amazon isn’t supposed to burn out of control.
The burning of the Amazon is going to provide short-term benefits to a few. But it’s frightening to realize that people born in the sixties will, in their late life, probably see the end of the Amazon as we know it. It seems the climate debate has been a distraction from possibly more urgent issues — the political and corporate football field.
Oh, why don’t our genius secret geo-engineers create rain and put the fires out like they did with Operation Popeye in 1967–1972 during the Vietnam War? Their cloud seeding (weapon) operation was to induce rain and extend the East Asian Monsoon.

Amazon rainforest fires: What’s happening now and how you can help
https://www.cnet.com/how-to/amazon-rainforest-fire-whats-happening-now-and-how-you-can-help-update-g7-aid-brazil/
The number of fires in Brazil this year is the highest on record since 2013 and is up by 85% from last year alone, CNN reported. So far this year, more than 80,000 fires in the country have been detected by Brazil’s space research center, INPE.
Wildfires are burning around the world. The most alarming is in the Amazon rainforest.
https://www.vox.com/world/2019/8/20/20813786/wildfire-amazon-rainforest-brazil-siberia
But the Amazon is not the only region that’s burning. More than 21,000 square miles of forest have gone up in flames in Siberia this month, putting Russia on track for its worst year on record for wildfires. The smoke from these blazes shrouded large parts of the country, including major cities like Novosibirsk, and has crossed the Pacific Ocean into the United States.
On Monday, a wildfire in the Canary Islands forced more than 8,000 people to flee. Over the weekend, new fires ignited in Alaska, extending what’s already been an unusually long fire season for the state. Last week, Denmark dispatched firefighters to Greenland combat a wildfire approaching inhabited areas. If not extinguished, officials are worried the blaze would burn through the winter, further driving up the already massive ice melt Greenland has experienced this year amid record heat.
California, which suffered its most destructive wildfire season on record in 2018, is having a much calmer year by comparison, although the potential for a major fire remains.
I think the main problem is humans don’t understand what the consequences might be of losing giants forests. The climate debate distracts us from the real issues. Imagine what the Easter Islanders… might have been saying. Diamond (in Collapse) writes: In just a few centuries, the people of Easter Island wiped out their forest, drove their plants and animals to extinction, and saw their complex society spiral into chaos and cannibalism. (Oh, but don’t worry we combat that with Veganism.)
Greed seems to overtake common sense. We are all supposed to be guardians of our planet in some form or another. Australia is not far behind in the extinction process. For example of many possums cross pollinate the trees and plants. People treat possums as rats and kill them. If the pollination process is hindered the consequences are horrific for all creatures including us. We don’t know the full consequences of the eco-system habitat in the Amazon let alone Australia’s poor reputation…
President Bolsonaro is pro-business
The Amazon is burning: What you need to know
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/08/amazon-burning-190823082046821.html
Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research (INPE) spotted more than 9,500 new forest fires in Brazil since August 15 alone, while atmospheric monitoring agencies have tracked smoke from the Amazon region drifting thousands of kilometres across the Latin American giant to the Atlantic coast and Sao Paulo, briefly turning daytime in Brazil’s biggest city to night last week.
But environmentalists and non-governmental organisations have attributed the record number of fires to farmers setting the forest alight to clear land for pasture and to loggers razing the forest for its wood, with INPE itself ruling out natural phenomena being responsible for the surge.
Critics say far-right President Bolsonaro’s weakening of Brazil’s environmental agency, IBAMA, and push to open up the Amazon region for more farming and mining has emboldened such actors and created a climate of impunity for those felling the forest illegally.
Recent evidence appears to bear that out with preliminary data showing deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon is skyrocketing under Bolsonaro’s watch.
The rate of forest destruction soared more than 278 percent in July compared with the same month a year ago, according to research by the Amazon Environmental Research Institute. Previously, INPE pegged the rate of deforestation in June at 88 percent higher than during the corresponding month in 2018.
“These statistics speak to who is in power and what he (Bolsonaro) is doing to undermine environmental protection … and open the floodgates to illegal and destructive behaviour,” said Christian Poirier, Brazil programme director for NGO Amazon Watch.
Brazil’s Bolsonaro is a Zionist Lackey (Know More News)
From The Australian 27/8/2019:
Brazil announced last week that it would privatise 17 more government enterprises, including federal electricity giant Electrobras, the national mint, and the postal service. Dozens of ports, airports, railroads and companies already have been put in private hands since Bolsonaro took office in January, on track to reach $20b for this year Brazil could sell nearly $90b worth of assets over the next two years.
All in all, the Bolsonaro administration $250b could be realised through privatisation, concessions(?), and the sale of federally owned land.
Why the Amazon is burning: 4 reasons
https://earthsky.org/earth/amazon-rainforest-fires-burning-4-reasons-why
Deforestation in the Amazon has spiked since the election last year of the far-right President Jair Bolsonaro. Arguing that federal conservation zones and hefty fines for cutting down trees hinder economic growth, Bolsonaro has slashed Brazil’s strict environmental regulations.

It’s factually false to assert that these latest fires are unprecedented, as proven by the investigative reporting that Off Guardia’s Catte Black carried out, and Bolsonaro already called out French President Macron for jumping on the bandwagon and misleadingly sharing older photos purporting to be of the most recent fires just like a host of celebrities have done as well.
The French leader has taken the lead in trying to assemble international support for putting out this blaze, though he and the rest of his ilk are silent about the much worse fires presently raging all across the Southern African country of Angola right now, strongly suggesting that there are ulterior motives behind their laser-focused interest in the resource-rich Amazon. Macron has already politically instrumentalized the crisis to blackmail Brazil by threatening to block a long-negotiated EU-Mercosur trade deal because of it, showing that he’s not afraid to exploit these fires for his own purposes.
I don’t read mainstream media but so I don’t know but I would be surprised if there was much coverage this week of what should have been a MASSIVE story about Michael Mann losing his defamation case in Canada. Mann refused to provide the data upon which his “hockey stick” graph (which formed the basis of numerous, official climate change policies) was based. Not only did he lose but costs were awarded against him – this usually indicates that the court finds the case to be frivolous and/or vexatious. As I understand it, Mann may yet be charged with fraud.
This case should and would be a dagger through the heart of bogus climate-change movement if it was reported widely in the main stream media.
The climate change movement is a Gnostic religion. In fact it is a Doomsday Cult. Gaia is their Goddess (of course God must be a woman), Darwin was their prophet, Ehrlich was their Luther and Al Gore is their tele-evangelist. Leaving a carbon footprint is original sin. Their “experts” are the priestly class. Virtue signalling by wearing greenie clothes is righteous behaviour and hardcore veganism is the new mysticism.
… and Flannery is an avid disciple (of Gaia) – “10% of me isn’t even me”
I watched as much of Flim Flummery as I could and had to freeze the video. Youtube then gave me some auto-choices….first was “How to spot a liar”… Poetic.
Falnnery looks demented-or possessed.
Worshiping the creation in lieu of the Creator is an insult to both
Its called Pantheism
https://www.learnreligions.com/what-is-pantheism-700690
Pantheism (pronounced PAN thee izm) is the belief that God consists of everyone and everything. For example, a tree is God, a mountain is God, the universe is God, all people are God.
Pantheistic societies sure do demonstrate that such a subtle shift has devastating consequences
Richard,
I also noted the Mann case back a bit.
Good one for doing my job that I was to lazy to raise.
Back in 2010 my stupid ‘phd’ brother of my brother in law (rip) used Mann to support the climate hoax lie.
At the time I raised the unscientific 911 official conspiracy theory with him. He was so unscientifice, which simply meant to me that he was a phd idiot.
So how does one get a phd without common sense.
SO FOR Mann and Co and the rest of the frauds.
BTW. WHO IS PAYING FLANNERY THESE DAYS.
Richard I see the correlation with the orchestrated promotion of the Pachamama Alliance which I touched on below–links with Doomsday Cults— The Cult of the Family–Jonestown -Waco-
There is currently a huge satanic cult following, mustering in the centre of Australia preparing for the “second coming.” The ground work has been done.-
Ned
Q. “So how does one get a phd without common sense.”
A. When they have been “programmed” “academonized” supervised by Top Elite Universities selected to role out and progress Tavistock Agenda. The Charles Darwin Northern Institute now being one to note.
The Gnostics held that Gaia is pure organic light. And we are her offspring. The trouble is, out of curiosity she accidently created an abomination out of inorganic material the Gnostics called the Demiurge. And this Demiurge subsequently claimed to be the true creator. The inorganic Demiurge is jealous of we humans’ organic/immortal essence so it and its inorganic creations, archons, have infected our minds with its inorganic/material ways; greed, fear, hate etc. Gaia is pure organic light/love; global warming theory is an archontic deception just like our money, governments, laws and everything else man has made in the image of the Demiurge. Might all be BS but it sure gives a pretty accurate account of the behaviours of man including the anti Gaia nature of his global warming theory.
It’s tempting to accept the archontic aspect of Gnosticism as it seems valid to our lived experience. But it’s bogus. Evil has been on this planet a long time under various names.
So far as the state of the Planet goes we really only have 2 options: improve or degrade. There’s no such thing as standing still(preservation) ,which is, unfortunately, the mindset of just about every environmental lobby.
I have never seen so much confidant delivery of such contradictory information from so many sources as I have with these Amazon fires. I really give up on who’s lying, who’s telling the whole/part/fraction-of truth and who’s simply incorrect. There are no longer ANY trustworthy sources.
Give gumshoe a go.
Right, Ned.
Dee is lie-poor. She has a deceit-deficit.
You’re right Paul. They say it’s the climate; the president; the opportunists; increasing dryness etc… And possibly it will be all of that. I’d say some of it is most trustworthy (e.g. a report on how forest fringes dry up) but they providing just a little slice of the picture. Some would be BS.
I don’t think you need to be a genius, to understand that the Amazon is going through a 10million year event. “It is being changed” at a rapid rate.
I would view the Amazon more like a whole functioning organism — and you start messing with it, and it becomes stressed. That’s what happens when ecosystems have change. Its been there what — 10 mullion years (or whatever) — and now its’s changing rapidly. You could argue, hey it’s not that bad. But we don’t know the outcome. We just cannot tell what impact it might have in the future. (It’s good if you are scared of deep forests. bad for maybe a couple of million species)
Let me provide another example: Your body is a whole functioning organism. Like the globe.
Let us say your gut bacteria is to you what the amazon is to the globe.
We have only learned recently that our gut bacteria are (or the major) part of our immune system. Mess with and stress our gut bacteria, we can become ill. The same probably applies to the amazon.
And as Berry says, nothing is static.
We are seeing many events that humans have never experienced before on the magnitude and frequency of events in history
I’d say a lot of the confusion is based on the fact that mere theory is routinely palmed off as “science” at the behest of some political agenda or other, “global warming” being a classic example.
Those concerned might acknowledge that Australia’s now-arid heart was once a lushly forested, humid environment but the Genesis account is poo-hood as being a myth together with other ancient records, eye-witness reports of monsters, and anything else that doesn’t fit with a particular narrative.
I don’t necessarily agree with every argument expounded by Answers in Genesis, but said publication does tend to draw attention to certain matters of significance that are assiduously shunned:
https://answersingenesis.org/dinosaurs/humans/australias-aborigines-did-they-see-dinosaurs/
The only trust worthy sources come from those who have personally experienced and witnessed the injustices and survived to give testimony. Gumshoe and ITNJ could maybe work together but maybe that work has been done.
I agree Dee “Nothing is static.”
“Let me provide another example: Your body is a whole functioning organism. Like the globe.

I reluctantly respond. No answers just observations–bearing witness – truth telling-exposing history– becoming informed.
I think it is important that some of “us” at least here in Australia do watch MSM news — world news -abc- sbs- nitv- hard work but allows connecting the dots. Yes “burning of the Amazon” is getting great coverage /response. So I ask internally WHY and WHY now. What else is being reported nightly. How do I support the work that others have done are doing right now. How does my research my voice support Dee’s/Mary’s work, the ITNJ testimonies, Fiona Barnett’s Eyes Wide Open, Tjanara Goreng Goreng’s recent testimony and the thousands of survivors voices of Satanic Ritual Abuse Mind Control and Organised Abuse-I add torture and “programming.
So today I refer to
“Awakening the Dreamer Changing the Dream: Pachamama Alliance”
Some will think this is “off topic”. or dismiss it or not be able to “see” the big picture plan– the multidimensional- www-matrix but I will for my own reasons respond.
About 10 years ago I became a trained facilitator enabled/entitled to present/progress the work of the Pachamama [mother earth ] Alliance. In Australia the “Be the Change Organisation” took up the baton. It was orchestrated and politically driven from California [also Penn University and Yale Harvard etc I believe], including world leaders, scientists, philosophers, visionaries and skilled 21st century presenters and film makers. Part of the Tavistock Agenda social engineering mind manipulation ways to influence–brainwash.Good intentions hijacked–and the machine marches on. A Pattern/Matrix.
I worked with other facilitators, students and local community members to adapt the material so that it could be used as a core element of the primary and secondary school curriculum for Australian Schools. [Again good intention-used and hijacked]. I was well equipped for this task as I had been “trained” as a “change agent,” ” takes a village to raise a child,'” “paradigm shifts,” parlance and had worked for the past 20 years designing and implementing culturally inclusive, community owned models of integrated life long learning.
“The Papaya Model of Education 1992-2001” provided a template for this work. Recognised internationally– now hijacked -copyright owned by Penn University and Serco. Another Big Story.
What I and trying to explain is that there was/are solutions –but there is also the hidden hand- gloved in secrecy and espionage.
All of the video above is worth watching but realise how time stretched we all are–the first 7 minutes gives an overview.
Interesting times we live in,
Just did a search on “5G and trees”.
Sorry people, but if you want faster download speeds, it seems that the trees have gotta go.
They just get get in the way too much.
A new cell tower has just been erected in my street–they removed several native trees in the vicinity of the huge pole because when “surges” occur trees can and do ignite.
“Massive Fake News Campaign Targets Brazil’s Amazon Fires” – “Seemingly everybody has heard about the fires burning in the Amazon, creating smoke and haze events in cities as far away as Sao Paulo. The question is, who is spreading the alarm and is it real or fake?”
“The hysteria over Brazil’s “lungs of the earth” has even become a central contention at the G7 meeting in Europe, with global leaders calling for intervention to save the Amazon jungle.”
“The problem is that most pictures being circulated on social media are NOT of this year’s fires at all! Photos are being dragged out from fires dating back to 1989 and presented as if they were taken in 2019.”

“…many don’t realize that the wildfires in the ‘lungs of the Earth’ (as French President Emmanuel Macron described the Amazon) actually aren’t that uncommon. In fact, they’re a natural part of the rainforest’s process of self-restoration. In total, this year, fires are up by 83% compared with last year.”
