It is Time The Media Told The Truth About The War in Ukraine

One of the classic symptoms that a side is losing a war is that it gets more and more desperate, both in its statements and in its actions. That was never more clearly demonstrated than in the war currently being waged in Ukraine. In the past two weeks, explosives have been used to damage both Nord Stream 1 and 2, and also the bridge linking the Russian mainland to Crimea. There is little doubt that both sets of attacks were carried out with the knowledge and consent of the Americans, though the actual damage has been done by other parties.

In the case of the two Nord Stream pipelines, the current favourites for actually carrying out the attacks are the Poles. The intensity of Poland’s dislike of the Russians is in no doubt. The congratulations to the Americans for the attacks by the former Polish minister (and current European parliamentarian) was unjustly an exercise in deflecting blame from his own country.

What is without doubt that the attacks on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, and on the bridge linking Crimea with the Russian mainland would have been carried out with the knowledge and consent of the Americans. Both sets of attacks mark a new upbeat in the intensity of the war against Russia. As such they are both incredibly dangerous. Have no doubt, this is a war against Russia, and although the Americans lack the courage to openly declare it as such, make no mistake, this is what they are doing. The object, as is often the case with United States operations against foreign parties, is regime change

In recent weeks the United States has intensified the hostility of the language used against Vladimir Putin. As is common practice in these exercises, the truth and the allegations bear no resemblance to each other. The most recent example has been to accuse Russia of planning a nuclear attack upon Ukraine. This is not only utterly without foundation, it is actually a reversal of the truth. One man has called for the use of nuclear weapons against Russia, and that is Ukraine’s president Zelensky.

Zelensky and the truth have long been strangers to one another, but his recent lies about Russia’s alleged planning of the use of nuclear weapons has reached a new low in truthfulness. It joins a long history of Ukrainian deceptiveness and outright lying about the war. The Ukrainians have recently admitted, for example, that with the Minsk agreements, that they signed in 2014 and 2015, they had no intention of complying with their obligations.

At least part of the responsibility for this total non-compliance must lie with two of the other signatories to the agreement, Germany and France. For eight years they have maintained silence about Ukraine’s blatant breach of its obligations. Instead of the peaceful resolution of the dispute with the two, overwhelmingly Russian-speaking areas of the Donbass, Ukraine has waged a constant war against those two areas.

The Russians, although not signatories to the Minsk agreements, maintained a steady silence over Ukraine’s constant breaching of their obligations. Their patience finally ran out in February of this year when they sent troops into the Donbass. Initially, that military intervention was on a small scale and consisted mainly of providing support for the Donbass militias who had been fighting for the past eight years to have the agreement honoured.

A fortnight ago the Russians took the next step and accepted the Donbass and two adjacent areas as part of the Russian Federation. Parts of the Donbass remain under Ukraine control, although that is expected to be finished in a matter of weeks as the Donbass militias, with Russian help, finally take full control of their territory.

It is in the context of these military losses that one needs to understand the attacks on both of the Nord Stream pipelines and also on the Russia – Crimea Bridge. It is a symptom of military desperation by the Ukraine that they attacked the rail and road connection between Crimea and the Russian mainland. They have never accepted that Crimea had a choice in choosing to rejoin Russia. Re-join is the operative word. Crimea had been part of Russia for a very long time. Australians should understand that: Australian troops had fought Russians in the Crimean war in the 1850s.

When Khrushchev gave Crimea to the Ukrainians in 1954, he did so without consulting the Crimean people. For them, returning to Russia was a natural process. Zelensky taking umbrage at that democratic choice displays not only his ignorance of history, but an imperfect grasp of modern geopolitics. To this day, the Western media refer to the “annexation” of Crimea by Russia. It was no such thing, but instead the democratic exercise of a people’s rights. The Western media have no qualms in accepting the separation of Kosovo from Serbia, probably because the former is now part of western alliance and home to one of the United States’ largest military bases.

One of the most disturbing elements of Ukraine’s situation is that its non-compliance with treaty obligations, its attack upon the Donbass, and the blatant discrimination against Russian speaking people who until very recently were among its citizens, is Australia’s acceptance of their blatant non-compliance with their obligations. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recently visited Ukraine and met with its president. Australia provides arms and ammunition to Ukraine and has virtually frozen relationships with Russia.

Albanese had no words of criticism for Ukraine’s president although that man’s record with regard to his treatment of Russian-speaking citizens is frankly appalling. His provision of arms and ammunition to the regime speaks volumes about his alleged concern for human rights and international law. He is undoubtedly complying with the wishes of the Americans, but that is a matter of criticism rather than acceptance.

The war in Ukraine has the potential to become a direct United States – Russian conflict. If that happens, then no country will be safe. There is a much higher price to be paid for Australia’s blindly following the Americans on yet another war of choice. They seem to have learned nothing from previous misadventures in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq. The Opposition is no better. Australia deserves a government that stands up for Australia’s best interests. Endlessly joining foreign wars of the United States making and promoting is not in Australia’s best interests.

    Russian Lawmaker: Holy Bible, Other Sacred Text and Objects a Must for Conscripts

    As the present draft brings more and more young men into the Russian Armed Forces, questions often arise regarding the religious life of the conscripts. With this regard, a member of the State Legislative Assembly from the United Russia party Mr. Sergei Kolunov has offered clarifications:

    “Many of the volunteers and conscripts going belong to various religious confessions. They must certainly have an opportunity to pray and read holy books. Christians take, for example, a cross with an icon, a prayer book, and a Bible with them . . . and this is the right thing to do”.

    He also noted the necessity of the free access of the servicemen to the clergy at the front line, referring to those clergymen who “in the time of the WWII prayed under the bullets and fearlessly went into battle, saving people physically and spiritually, just as it should be the case even now”.

    Sacred texts of the traditional religions contain substantial encouragement to defending the homeland.

    “Reading the Holy Scripture and prayer like nothing else promotes courage and unity among servicemen. Remembrance of God and entreating Him helps to relieve psycho-emotional stress in the most difficult situations”, - concluded the lawmaker.

I don’t think “they” care much about nucular contamination anymore, look at Hiroshima, it was all rebuilt, other places, just have to wait a few decades and rebuild, if a few people get cancer it’s good business. I remember the old Carlton United Brewery site at the top of Swanston St in Melbourne was vacant for decades, a prime site, nobody could agree what to do with it until a huge brick wall fell over and squashed a couple of people, this seemed to break the deadlock. The point is certain things can be left derelict even if they have some apparent huge value. The owner of the site is not the controller. Oh to be controller. The controller of the site is the owner of the government(s).
