Peter Dutton has possibly become the most powerful person in the country (Australia).
In his new SUPER ministry he has oversight for: national security, the Federal Police, Border Force and ASIO, law enforcement and emergency management functions of the Attorney-General’s Department, plus… transport security functions of the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities, counterterrorism and cybersecurity functions of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, multicultural affairs functions of the Department of Social Services, and the entire Department of Immigration and Border Protection. What!
As Julian Burnside recently wrote in The Saturday Paper:
“It is hard to imagine any member of federal parliament less suited to exercise the sort of powers now held by Dutton. It is easy to argue that no minister should be entrusted with such vast powers. But the fact that those powers are in Dutton’s hands is seriously alarming.”
Peter Dutton’s Background
Dutton was born on 18 November, 1970 and was raised in the northern Brisbane suburb of Boondall. He graduated from the Police Academy in 1990, and was a member of the Queensland Police Force for nine years — working as a detective across the drug squad and sex offender’s unit.
He was elected to federal Parliament as the Member for Dickson in November 2001. At the age of 30 he became one of the youngest Ministers when appointed to the Ministry by Prime Minister John Howard in 2004. In January 2006, he was promoted to Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer. Between 2008 and 2013 he served as Shadow Minister for Finance, Competition Policy and Deregulation before moving to the Shadow Ministry of Health and Ageing.
In the Abbott Government, he became the Minister for Health and the Minister for Sport from 18 September 2013, and then Minister for Immigration and Border Protection from 21 December 2014. On 18 July 2017, he was also named Minister for Home Affairs — a newly created portfolio giving him oversight of ASIO, the AFP and Border Force.
From “Witches” to “White Farmers”
These are some points of interest about the super minister:
1. In a text he referred to a journalist as a “mad f***ing witch”. It was intended for resigned minister Jamie Briggs, but he sent it to the journo by mistake.
2. In 2015, Mr Dutton denied claims by Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young that she had been spied on during a visit to Nauru. The spying claims were later allegedly confirmed by the Immigration Department.
3. As Health Minister, he was later voted as the worst Health Minister in 35 years in a poll run by Australian Doctor magazine. He also tried to introduce an added fee of $7 for visits to GPs.
4. A child was burnt by boiling water on Nauru. To quote The Sydney Morning Herald:
“In Parliament [February 2016] Dutton said he would not preside over a situation where people were ‘self-harming to come to hospitals in this country‘ because they believed it was a route to Australian citizenship… Ms Narayanasamy said Mr Dutton was in possession of medical reports which clearly state Baby Asha’s injuries were accidental.”
5. In 2008, when Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made his apology in Parliament to the Stolen Generations, both sides of the House applauded but Mr Dutton was allegedly the only Coalition frontbencher to abstain.
6. In an ABC report entitled, “Child abuse royal commission: Peter Dutton involved in delaying release of child detainee safety report”, they describe how the minister DELAYED publishing the report for more than six months.
The Making Children Safer report reviewed 242 alleged incidents of abuse and found that only half of those matters received an adequate response.
7. On October 31, 2017, Dutton said: “The Coalition government has had a clear and consistent policy since coming to office: no one who attempts to enter Australia illegally by boat will ever settle here.” It is not illegal to seek asylum.
8. In March 2018, Dutton said white South African farmers “deserve special attention” from Australia due to the “horrific circumstances” of land seizures and violence, and “…I think these people deserve special attention and we’re certainly applying that special attention now.”
This ‘Apartheid Home Affairs Minister’ cartoon was sketched by Zapiro in South Africa.
9. This is what Dutton said in his maiden speech on 13th February 2002:
“I am a strong advocate of the rights of the individual and I am certainly an advocate of minimalist intervention by government in our lives. However, as part of this process we must set ourselves on a course of information sharing between law enforcement agencies and other government departments, with this end in mind: when does the right of privacy for the individual start to impinge on the common good of society?“
When Malcolm Turnbull successfully challenged Tony Abbott for the Prime Ministership in 2015, Mr Dutton supported Mr Abbott, and retained his position in Cabinet.
10. Way back in the 2001 Federal election, Dutton was up against Labor’s Cheryl Kernot. Several articles were published alluding to allegations of Dutton’s possible misconduct whilst in the police force — and was the reason he resigned from the force in 1999. Dutton labelled the innuendo “offensive and preposterous” and managed to produce glowing references from the National Crime Authority. Kernot’s attack backfired when ALP leader Kim Beazley requested she withdraw the comment.
11. Many victims of pedophile Kevin Lynch (Case Study 34) requested that the Royal Commission needed to fully investigate the fact that a number of Queensland pedophile cases have been closed without full investigations. There have been several petitions requesting that Royal Commission (into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse) to call Peter Dutton to answer questions under oath over Case Study 34.
12. Dutton, along with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, is hoping to body scan 94 per cent of passengers with new body scanners at domestic airports. Who are the remaining 6%, I wonder? Last week they announced the $294 million package to boost security at domestic airports and introduce new powers. Turnbull said, “The justification for changing the law so that police at an airport can ask you to identify yourself, the justification is the safety of the Australian people.”
Centralized Control
Why have they created this “centralized” security control? Young Peter seems to be a most useful chap in a most pivotal position. I am reminded how the law was changed a few months before 9-11 — this to facilitate NORAD control by the White House bunker during a crisis.
I wonder what they are planning?
You have an unerring sense of the real issues, Dee. My reaction to this one is: Whew!
Like really, really, Whew.
Bulletin from Victoria Supreme Court this morning, re Jimmy Gargasoulas of Bourke St rampage fame:
“It’s understood all the experts agree Mr Gargasoulas suffers from schizophrenia, but one crown expert holds a contrary view about how if affects his current mental state.
Gargasoulas will face a five-day investigation hearing before a jury which will determine if he is fit to stand trial.
Three experts are expected to give evidence at the hearing beginning on June 12. If found unfit, Mr Gargasoulas would face a special hearing instead of a criminal trial to determine whether he is not guilty due to his mental impairment.”
Sorry, I meant to credit ABC for that. new bulletin. Also to say that Jimmy was “in court” but only by video link. ABC does not, so far, mention if he said anything.
Dee, I like the phrase in the title “a vice grip on Australia”, but maybe “a vice grip on Australians” would be more precise.
By the way, an Aussie told me recently that he was overseas and did not know he could refuse to go through the scanning machine. Yes you can, at least in the US, at least for now. i always ask for a pat-down in lieu. Have not experienced anything but courtesy from TSA.”
You know they’re not trying to check you for bombs. So what is this new $294 million for?
I sincerely hope Gumshoe doesn’t hope to quote Julian Burnside in support and remain credible? Dutton appears to be the only person in Australian politics resisting the global islamo-fascist-gay-marxist-gulag-casino-plex model being promulgated by the left. I’ll take him every day over every single other politician.
Which gulag are we referring to?
Richard, you are dealing with about 6 topics. I’m with Burnside when it comes to treating people in off shore centres like animals. It does not mean I agree with him on the other 5 topics.
I have mentioned before, that I was brought up in a POLICE STATE. I don’t think most Australians recognize what is happening. Dutton would have excelled in the South African regime.
Aus is, and always has been,a Police State too;just a lot less efficient than South Africa under apartheid
“global islamo-fascist-gay-marxist-gulag-casino-plex model being promulgated by the left.”
My, my. The swear words are flowing easily and profusely!!! Do you know the actual meanings of the words you are sprouting??? We gather that for some unclear reason you don’t LIKE Julian Burnside, but no factual/credible reasons or information is necessary — just demonise the guy, and demonstrate your sophisticated vocabulary and and deep powers of reasoning at the same time!!!
Also, “I’ll take him (Dutton) every day . . .” without addressing any of the substantive points raised in the main article. Are you a mature, balanced, intelligent adult, Richard . . . or a guy with an agenda, unresolved emotional hang-ups, and an axe to grind??? Do you have anything positive/insightful/intelligent to contribute??? If so, don’t keep us in suspense.
Brevity and levity my dear muppet. See my earlier posts to know I am a friend of Gumshoe. I simply wouldn’t agree with sh1tlib Burnside ON PRINCIPLE, because my enemy’s enemy being my friend is WRONG. To elaborate briefly (as duty calls), you may have noticed that the elite social engineers and their operating system (cultural Marxism aligned with Islam) seek to destroy Christianity, impose moral depravity and the Kalergi Plan while simultaneously imposing a consumeristic, medicalised socio-political technocracy over the entire planet? Well that’s my 8 word description of same. It’s called memetics.
There are a number of problems that this article raises. Although Dutton is beyond doubt a dangerous and bigoted individual, he is not the issue. In the fullness of time Dutton will be replaced by someone else, but the problems will remain.
The main problem that I see is that regardless of which government is in power, and regardless of whether or not Minister A or Minister Z holds a given portfolio, there is a lack of redress by any citizen or group against the abusive use of power. This goes back to Mary’s earlier article. Australia is unique among the so-called western democracies in not having a Bill of Rights or its equivalent. That makes us uniquely vulnerable to abuse of power by the government of the day (or indeed any organisation).
I am not so naive as to believe that a B of R is a universal panacea, but my experience in legal jurisdictions where I have worked, in New Zealand and Europe, the existence of such a Bill makes a measurable difference.
The saying “eternal vigilance is the price of liberty” attributed to Thomas Jefferson among many others, is nonetheless true. In Australia, our mainstream media and all too many of the commentariat are asleep at the wheel. I genuinely fear for the future of democracy in this country.
For these positions/functions they appoint someone “young”, gung-ho, willing to take (follow) orders/directions/”guidance”, with flexible ethical principles, completely focused on “the mission”(objectives), deeply loyal to the group leadership, and eager to do “whatever it takes”. Gina Haspel in US., Dutton in Oz. Votes against independent UN investigation into Gaza events. 911/WTC. Etc., etc., etc. Join the dots. The direction/trend/trajectory is clear. Multiple confirmations. You/we have been informed!!!
This bloke sounds dangerous. Detective on the drug squad? I’ve got some stories about detectives on drug squads and it sounds like others may have similar stories when I read, “Several articles were published alluding to allegations of Dutton’s possible misconduct whilst in the police force — and was the reason he resigned from the force in 1999.” – I’d like to see those articles!
Then there is this, “In his new SUPER ministry he has oversight for: national security, the Federal Police, Border Force and ASIO, law enforcement and emergency management functions of the Attorney-General’s Department, plus… transport security functions of the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities, counterterrorism and cybersecurity functions of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, multicultural affairs functions of the Department of Social Services, and the entire Department of Immigration and Border Protection.” – That sounds like they have elevated SAC-PAV to a Ministerial position. For those who aren’t in the know, SAC-PAV featured heavily in the Port Arthur Massacre. In fact, the SAC-PAV playbook was finished just 5 months before Port Arthur.
“At the age of 30 he became one of the youngest Ministers when appointed to the Ministry by Prime Minister John Howard” – oh great, another appointment by John Howard, the Prime Minister that appointed Damien Bugg the Commonwealth Attorney General. (Damien Bugg was the Tasmanian Crown DPP that railroaded Martin Bryant).
He’s been caught out lying before and it hasn’t affected his political status, the governmental attitude is more like – ‘nothing to see here’. This guy is a ‘player’ and he’s been given a free pass for previous indiscretions. There are ‘Red Flags’ all around this bloke.
I’m with Dee on this one – “I wonder what they are planning?”
I’ve run out of my free searches, but
Courier Mail reporter Dennis Atkins, in a published article on the 3 March 2017 made reference to a previous allegation of misconduct against Mr Peter Dutton.

How about a TV show: “SAC-PAVs Got Talent.”
We may not have a Bill Of Rights but the International Covenant on Human Rights comes into force and affect through Schedule 2 of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Act 1986.
Articles 9 and 14 relate to this article.
Would anyone care for a musical interpretation?
If so, please provide it. Mary is off with the fairies having to get her Appeal Brief uploaded to Bostoniensis in the next few hours.
Yay!
I live for a laugh.
.
I thought your points were a good summary of the travesty that is Peter Dutton and his powers until I got to the conspiracy theory bit about 9/11 at the end. I am afraid that has put serious doubt in my mind about the authenticity of this news site. Then I read the comments and there are more conspiracy theorists of the whackiest kind featuring strongly. Also on your “about” page (which I always check on any news or commentary source to see if I resonate with what the site is about) you say nothing of what you are trying to achieve with this site. You give a bio of your contributors, which is great. But what is your motivation in setting up this site as an apparent alternative source of news and commentary? We are sorely in need of good quality alternative sites of this nature but I am not sure you fit the bill.
If you are going to hint at a conspiracy theory that has been adopted around the world by the craziest people, with no discussion and no presenting of evidence that can be refuted or not, then it kind of taints your appeal in my book. You also need to monitor your page to get rid of the crazies like the guy who lumps everyone who is not right wing and conservative into some unintelligible composite involving an Islamist conspiracy.
Jill how many skyscrapers came down on 9-11?
And this site is filled with factual evidence.
