Russia’s Moves in Ukraine Symptomatic of Wider Changes in the World

In a recent article, the Russian author Fyodora Lukyanov argues that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is not merely a war between two nations, Russia and Ukraine, but rather marks a profound change in the existing world order, different from that which marked the previous three decades since the collapse of the Soviet Union system that had ruled Russia since 1917. Instead of pushing Russia out of the system, the system itself must cease to exist. A new system can then be formed on entirely new conditions, different from those of the previous three decades (since the collapse of Communist rule).

For the fourth time in slightly more than 100 years, Russia is taking on the role, and the burden, of the key agent in global change. February 2022 marks the beginning of that change. It was of course the month that Russia invaded Ukraine. The West reacted to that event by immediately instituting measures designed to cripple the Russian economy. It was a classic example of an emotional reaction that took little or no cognizance of the actual facts.

The United States saw it is a golden opportunity to destroy Russia, and encouraged its European allies to take punitive measures. Results have not been what the United States and the West expected. It ignored some basic economic realities. Apart from providing Europe with more than 40% of its oil and gas requirements, Russia is also the sole source of many essential minerals that the West needs to keep its economic engine working.

This was recognised by German industry leaders who preside over Europe’s largest economy. They saw that and an embargo on Russia would have a devastating effect on the German economy. They have tried to persuade the German Chancellor Scholz of the folly of his policies, thus far with little impact. Rapidly rising rates of inflation, currently at record levels for more than a generation, may help persuade Scholz of the error of his ways.

The economic embargo has had little effect on the Russian economy. The rouble initially lost ground against the United States dollar, but has now recovered to be even stronger that it was before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. German industry is growing increasingly desperate as the supply of vital raw materials are shut down.

One of the dominant characteristics of the conflict, which Australia has joined, and definitely to please its United States masters, has been the motives behind the Russian move. This has been almost totally ignored by the Western media. They have persisted in presenting Ukrainian president as some sort of hero resisting Russian “aggression”.

Almost completely lost in this adulation is a realistic appraisal of what is actually happening in Ukraine. Their president is far from a democratic leader bravely resisting a Russian invasion. Shortly before the invasion he closed down 12 Ukrainian opposition groups, and arrested or murdered its political leadership. This undemocratic (to say the least) act passed entirely without comment, let alone criticism, in the Western media.

Also completely uncommented on in the Western media is that after the American inspired revolution in 2008 that revolution overthrew the democratically elected government of Ukraine and replaced it with a frankly fascist dominated regime. The events of 2008 led Crimea and the two Donetsk republics to break away from Ukraine. Crimea returned to Russia after a democratic plebiscite where it had been for hundreds of years until 1954 when it was arbitrarily gifted to Ukraine.

Donetsk was immediately attacked by Ukrainian forces and has been fighting them ever since. A resolution of the issue, known as the Minsk agreements, was agreed to by Ukraine in 2015. It was never implemented, an effect that has drawn zero criticism from the West, including from the two Western powers who were parties to the agreement, Germany and France.

The Russian invasion of February 2022 was designed in part to thwart a major Ukrainian military manoeuvre designed to defeat the Donetsk republics and impose rule from Kyiv. Also completely missing from the Western narrative was the fact that the Russian language, which is spoken by the overwhelming majority of Donetsk peoples, had been actively discriminated against by the Kyiv regime. The Russian invasion stopped that move. Ukrainian forces in the Donbass, an estimated 40,000 troops, are completely surrounded. They will either surrender or be killed.

There was however, in February 2022, an even more significant move by Russia than the military manoeuvres in the Donbass and elsewhere in eastern Ukraine.  In that month Russia’s president Putin went to Beijing and met with his Chinese counterpart, Mr Xi. The two men signed an agreement which again has received scant coverage in the Western media.

They essentially agreed that there would be a new world economic order, and that the days of United States domination, through the dollar, would come to an end. They will be joined by the vast majority of the world’s developing nations whose willingness to join a new world financial order was undoubtedly assisted by the West’s theft of $600 million of Russia’s foreign exchange holdings held in western banks. Again, this blatant theft has received almost no coverage in the Western media.

February 2022 can therefore be seen as the beginning of a new world economic order. Its ramifications are profound. The era of United States dominance of the worlds’ financial system is coming to an end, and with it the United States’ ability to dictate world events.

Australia’s reaction to the moves by the government of the Solomon Islands, where some of the more intemperate commentators have advocated invading the country, was for the Solomons to sign a deal with China and can be interpreted in the light of moves to reduce Western imperialism and the power of the United States dollar in that country. It was no surprise that the Americans immediately dispatched one of their foreign affairs personnel to the Solomons. There is little doubt that the United States would have applied enormous pressure on the Solomons to negate the agreement.

The Australian reaction, apart from the above quoted suggested invasion, has been completely lacking in realism. Alarm is expressed about the Chinese having a foothold (with dark suggestions of it becoming a naval base for Chinese warships) less than 2000 km from Australia’s coast. Completely unmentioned are that there are literally hundreds of United States military bases surrounding China.  Australian warships take part in so-called freedom of navigation exercises in the South China Sea, posing a direct threat to China. The hypocrisy over the Solomons is breathtaking.

What is happening in the Solomons is part of a wider world wide move of countries to assert their independence from United States domination. Australia had better get used to it, because it is not going to change.

The information provided by HSBC led to the arrest of Meng Wanzhou, Huawei’s chief financial officer and daughter of the company’s founder, in Vancouver in 2018.

    • Tony, could you give me a heads up of what your talking about regards a Chinese base in Western Australia. As far as I’m aware, (and I live in W.A. travel into our Kimberley and Pilbara regularly) there is no such base, that deserves to be interpreted as a “base”. I know, there is an air strip that was built to service Palmer’s mine site, the company of which he is partnership with the Chinese, though currently having a bit of a tussell in the Courts. There is no way, under the Queen’s English, such an airstrip can be called a “base”. So if your not referring to that, could you enlighten us a little on this issue. I’d be most grateful. B.T.W. You are of course aware of the American bases in W.A. right ? One just N.E. of Geraldton, (highly secret, no one allowed within 50 K’s) then we have the Submarine communications base in Exmouth, where my last visit, there was a new building going up within the perimeter of the base and well back away from public prying eyes, a facility that looked to me, suspiciously like a Patriot facility. Then we have the Air Force base further up, which IS actually a military base shared with Australian Forces and American. I’m pretty sure, (going by the comments made in Darwin, and the U.S. base there together with the Chinese leased Port of Darwin,) if the Chinese were to establish a military base in W.A. the Americans would be screaming blue murder, and our Eastern states politicians would be tripping all over themselves trying to minimise the damage to their American masters.

Koshie ( channel 7 ) was insisting to some politician this morning that the leadership of Solomon Islands was corrupt and the regular riots would indicate that, the mainstream is ok with accusing places like that of corruption but very slow on the domestic corruption. So I would not be conflating the will of the people with the political outcome. Everyone is denying they will put a naval base on there so to me that indicates they are well into the design stages by now, probably already moved some locals off site during the riots.
    So, how many of these things can the CCP afford ? That’s how many they can get. They have to get their people onto a war footing, deprivation, North Korea style.
    One island in the east of Kiribati seems to be geologically sinking, abandoned due to salination, they could get it for peanuts but imagine the servicing costs. When the ICBMs start flying around all these installations will be first to go. Like the Russian flagship which they are probably trying to refloat now. WW2 was over nearly 80 years ago, all that stuff is obsolete.

    • Scomo finds himself on very SAFE ground, if he sticks to U.S. projections. That way he doesn’t say anything that may compromise himself with his masters in Washington and upset the apple cart. Very safe ground indeed.

  5. A good summation as to some of the reasoning for why Russia invaded parts of the Ukraine. What you have omitted, James, is that the Ukraine has been a central pivot for world human trafficking, particularly women and children, and a major money laundering hub for those governments who participate in such evil activities, and who have, or had, numbers of bio-weapons labs in that country that they were actual signatories to in eradicating from the world stage.

    Think about upwards of 18 illegal bio-weapons labs on Russia’s doorstep, and that Putin had been warning the Ukraine government about since the 2014 coup, along with other issues, such as the freeing of the Russian speaking areas of Ukraine who want nothing to do with the Western backed and financed fascist government in Kyiv and its military enforcers, the Azov battalion. – who have been actively inflicting on those Ukraine citizens what the West has been accusing Russia of doing.

    One only need to go back to the same scenario played out in Syria – before Russia entered that war and brought about its end. The Western playbook in Ukraine, is exactly the same.

    We who live in the West are missing the root cause of all the world chaos – world domination – to bring about what the elites within the West desire most, which is wealth and power that brings with such aspirations, the ability to control, not only nations, but the entire world.

    We kid ourselves that we all live in free and democratic societies, when the evidence of such fleeting ideals proves to be the exact opposite for the honest observer.

    Russia is protecting its own interests – as it is their right to do – while those who control the West want Russia’s subservience to the Western Central Banking system that is now rapidly disintegrating. Russia is going from economic strength to strength because Russia now has a Gold backed currency and economic system away from the inflation riddled and lose, lose, of the Western fiat system.

    China and India are on board with Russia’s Ruble and we can expect many more third world countries to take up the offer, a system that will free them from the debt slavery of the Western petro-dollar. The West are the bad guys in all of what is now being exposed, it’s just that many have yet to wake up to that fact before we can all venture from Darkness into Light.

    • Characters such as Zelensky demonstrate how a nation is hostage to its power-elite group and this group assumes and is afforded sovereignty, until there is some invasion or war. The group is in no way obligated to advance the interests of the people, basically they lie and steal as much as they can get away with, while maintaining “loyalty to the flag” and such notions of collective good. In Australia, we never had national sovereignty and don’t know what it is. Our elected PM for good or bad or worse can just be sacked, and the Victorian Governor says she is no longer answerable to the Queen so lets see where the current corruption investigations take us, they do appear promising. Australians have already in so many ways surrendered to socialism, so “waking up” is something they are not inclined to do. All of those who supported the injections will buy any story that injections are still good. Others are trapped in all sorts of cognitive dissonance and have to watch TV sport to escape reality. The beliefs they hold dear need not be transplanted by facts ( which are always contested by vested interests ) let alone the complex considerations of “plausibilty”, which is about as far as anyone can reliably go these days. So I’m not holding my breath for the 50% most complacent to ever wake up, change their vote, or even change their mind and squeak about it. We will simply follow the US as usual because they have a constitution they fought for and we don’t.
