The Rhetoric and the Reality: Australia, the United States and the World in the 21st Century

(R) Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne at ASEAN Aug. 1, 2019. (GUMSHOE’S adapted pic of Sakchai Lalit)

By James O’Neill*

Henry Wotton is perhaps best remembered as the author of the phrase that an ambassador was an honest gentleman sent abroad to lie for the good of his country.

Updated to the 21st century one might say that the modern Foreign Secretary is someone who lies for the good of their country. In Australia’s case as we progress through the 21st century we are constantly confronted with glaring examples of Wotton’s dictum.

We might not be so blunt as to refer to it as “lying”, but certainly, to use modern phraseology, the modern diplomat (or foreign minister as will be discussed) puts a particular gloss on events that on closer examination not only take liberties with the truth, but frequently amount to a total distortion of reality.

Making solemn pronouncements on the leaders of some of obscure third world country of minimal real-world attachment to one’s own country is one thing; to make pontifical and manifestly absurd statements about the alleged policies of one’s biggest trading partner, by a considerable margin, is something else. An argument might be made that her comments border on the profoundly stupid, even if one chooses to ignore the blatant hypocrisy, which in the case under review is manifestly the truth.

In a recent speech in Sydney, Australia’s Foreign Minister Marise Payne indulged in some spectacular examples of comments that range from the blatantly false to the merely profoundly stupid.

China, she insisted, should be held accountable for their human rights abuses domestically because, she said, “countries that respect and promote their citizens’ rights at home tend also to be better international citizens.”

Ms Payne singled out the alleged treatment by the Chinese government of its Uighur people in Xinjiang province. The Chinese government has denied allegations of abuse and while the allegations are plentiful, especially from United States sources, actual evidence is remarkably difficult to find.

Had Ms Payne left it there it would have been relatively unremarkable. Unfortunately for her argument, she went on to say that “the United States has a record unmatched in modern times in leading an international system aimed at benefiting all people, not just its own.”

At this point one has to seriously ask: just what planet does Ms Payne occupy? Since the end of World War II in 1945, the United States has been almost totally engaged in warfare throughout the world. According to the late United States historian William Blum, the United States between 1945 in 2005 has attempted to overthrow more than 50 foreign governments, to crush more than 30 popular nationalist movements and killed more than 40 million people. Since Blum’s book was published in 2005 the carnage has continued non-stop.

Despite a manifestly illegal invasion and occupation of Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, all with the willing compliance and active assistance of Australia, the carnage continues, as does the blatant interference in the domestic affairs of other countries.

Ms Payne is correct to say that the United States’ record is “unmatched in modern times” but not in the way that any country that really accepted the principles of international law that Ms Payne purports to uphold would recognise.

It is not just the hypocrisy of criticising the government of China and extolling the virtues of the world’s most dangerous and internationally unlawful government of modern times that stands out. China is Australia’s most important trading partner by a considerable margin, taking three times the value of Australia’s exports than its next largest trading partner, Japan. The value of trade with China was nearly $135 billion in 2018-2019 compared to less than $15 billion with the United States.

China is also Australia’s largest source of foreign students (a multi-billion dollar revenue source) the largest source of foreign tourists (also worth multi-billions of dollars to the local economy) and the third-largest source of foreign investment.

It wasn’t just China that revealed Mrs Payne’s profound ignorance and stupidity. She also described Russia is being “revanchist” and “intent on disruption.” This is profound ignorance on a grand scale. It has led to such practically inconsequential actions as expelling Russian diplomats over the Skripal incident when the evidence is overwhelming that the alleged facts bare absolutely no resemblance to what actually happened, notwithstanding the absurd claims of the former British Prime Minister Theresa May.

To describe Russia as “intent on disruption” would be laughable were it not for the fact that it portrays a profound ignorance by the Minister, who is literally the countries top political figure on foreign affairs.

Australia under Ms Payne was one of a handful of countries around the world that rushed to recognise Juan Guaido as president of Venezuela (when he had not even been a candidate in that countries presidential election). It did demonstrate yet again Australia’s compliance with the United States’ view of the world, regardless of the facts or the law.

Her speech concluded with the observation that in the current period of political and strategic uncertainty, the Australia-United States alliance was more important than ever. The argument could and should be made that the precise opposite is true.

Not the least of the contributors to “political and strategic uncertainty” in the world are the actions of the United States itself, which as noted, has a history now extending more than seven violent destabilising decades.

A look at the map of the trading statistics should tell Australians where their interests and their future lie. By clinging to an outmoded and declining, violent United States, incapable of defending Australia even if it wanted to, is absurd. Any objective appraisal of the relative strengths of modern Russian and Chinese weaponry (as Andre Martyanov (2019) brilliantly demonstrated) viz a viz the overpriced and manifestly outclassed United States versions show, Australia is actually increasing its global risks rather than its safety.

Unfortunately the current political leadership seems incapable of grasping the strategic and economic realities of the 21st century.

  1. Another excellent post from Niell, thanks mate. But will the plebs understand any of it ??? I despair, it goes right over their heads.

  2. Yes Eddy, another great post by James. A realistic view of the World, our political and diplomatic corps. Don’t this group read anything apart from the war rhetoric issued by the Intelligence Agencies and false stories generated by the fake news media?

Thank goodness I think that there is a change of US actions, since Donald Trump was placed as the President. We will not truly know until after he wins the 2020 elections. If he is able to dismantle the Central Bank system, Globalists and their continuing attempts to create wars and control of sovereign countries will be finished.

  3. Thank you James – re the paragraph on the Uyghur people in Xinjiang province – just a few relevant articles for mutual and general interest …

I am reading “Dragon Fighter” by Rebiya Kadeer not far enough in yet to offer comment – just mentioning for general interest.

    It is also promoted here:

“”Ms. Kadeer is Director of the International Uyghur Human Rights and Democracy Foundation, which has received NED support since 2005. In addition, she serves on the Boards of Directors of the Uyghur American Association and the World Uyghur Congress, which also receive NED support for their work to advocate for the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of Uyghurs in China. Ms. Kadeer’s autobiography, Dragon Fighter, One Woman’s Epic Struggle for Peace with China, was published in May 2009.

This 53-minute documentary was written and directed by Jeff Daniels and produced by John Lewis.
NED and the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission are grateful to the filmmakers for their kind permission to screen the film.”

  4. She uses and recommends all prescribed remedies for the modern afflictions to the full extent of the law, I would imagine. A couple more flu shots and we will have our own Pelosi.

  5. That red flag with yellow star says a lot. To me, it seems that USA is handing baton to CCP and the central bankers still remain in control. After sucking the west dry, now they’re changing the blood, to bigger markets more punters bigger profits. Global communism is the one world dystopia end game. Artificial intelligence techno pluto kleptocratic military industrial dictatorship rule by satanists. The US and Oz economies, like elsewhere, have been destroyed from within by traitors.
This sleight of hand has made the CCP members the richest on earth. Who would have thought twenty years ago ?

    • You said it, 56. Jame’s article does not factor race into the equation. China is being goosed into the role played by the United States since world war II. The US is now so hated, by propaganda from the Zionists that its fall will not be missed by non whites (that could be a subject for another post). China will now do the Zionist’s dirty work, like the US did. Then their culture will be subsumed to Multiculturalism, to bring about the monoculture that the J=Clan freemasons will rule as the exalted. Thus, The Kalergi Plan comes to China, too.

  6. I posted other links (comment still pending) relating to the “Uyghur people in Xinjiang province” but in the meantime, for our collective viewing.

The title is a bit too sensational but the content extremely informative and balanced. The Xinjiang segment starts around 1:35.

  7. When you refer to the “outmoded and declining, violent United States”, to which United States do you refer? Do you refer to the military-industrial-complex about which Eisenhower warned us in 1961, A.K.A. the Deep State who took out JFK, Nixon and Reagan to prevent them doing any good and who planned and did 9/11 (with the help of other bad actors), who have been in power since the Dallas coup of 1963 and who have been particularly malevolent in intent and deed since GHWB?
Or do you refer to the United States of the Donald Trump Presidency, a non-interventionist who is trying diplomatically to withdraw from foreign entanglements and is at odds with the same military industrial complex?
It is important to draw this distinction as, just in case you haven’t noticed, the United States is currently smack-bang in the middle of a cold civil war between those two factions – the white hats of the President Trump administration and the black hats of the Deep State.
In my view we should absolutely be allied with the United States of the President Trump administration as it is a force for good in the world whereas the Deep State is an evil cabal that seek nothing other than power and control.
As for China, they are no better than the Deep State. Sure we can trade with China and take their money to educate their students, but we must NEVER let our guard down as their clear intent is to dominate, control and ultimately to either own or destroy us.
Virtue signalling about Uyghurs is pathetic. Leave the virtue-signalling for the left.

  8. America is more than just a couple of factions fighting each other, there used to be a ‘culture’ there that gave rise to its strength. That underlying culture is collapsing at a great rate that appears to be accelerating.

This morning I viewed this video by ‘Black Pigeon’ on the collapse in California. The old saying was ‘As California goes, so goes the nation’.

    https://youtu.be/KO3ct4iCkfU

Then there is the saying that ‘Australia is 20 years behind the States’ – Crikey, maybe it is time cut those ties to the U.S.

    • Like wow, Terry. At 3.27 he says that if the state of California were a nation, it would rank on the inequality of wealth scale as 17th, just after Honduras.

    • Terry,
Yes we embraced the California dream and as Carlin saiid…..”one has to be asleep to believe it.”
Global Australia first third world state. All done in two decades past.

      • No chance, I could not get a dish pig job in Chinatown. But I could be shot by 7.62mm humane jacketed munitions in any nation with a central bank or the couple without.

  9. This just in:

Rand Paul threatens to name whistleblower: ‘There’s no law that stops me’

Sen. Rand Paul is threatening to name the government employee who complained about President Trump’s phone call with the Ukrainian president.

  10. Whilst it is true that the US has invaded 57 sovereign nations since 1946, and that the NED, TC, and Council on Foreign Relations (all owned by the Rockefellers) broadcast fabricated news about China’s ethnic minorities, this is not some kind of automatic see saw elevation of the Chinese.

Evidently, O’Neil has been blindsided by our own home-grown propaganda.

This is the reality: Chinese imports are routinely of third rate quality. Many are subsidised by global finance (ie sheet steel sold for less than the price of production). Chinese imports undermined Australian manufacturing and destroyed this sector almost entirely. As ATO statistics of the 1970s demonstrated, manufacturing, and its feeder industries of transport, packaging, retail, warehousing and distribution, and advertising, generated full time jobs for 80% of Australians. Ergo, Chinese imports have destroyed that once-great Australian economy and prosperity and wrought 50% unemployment and underemployment (which both major parties agree to read as 5-6%).

Clearly, China is our emerging enemy, worse even than the US.

Moreover, for three decades, it has been official Chinese policy to dominate the world, hence the campaign to have all Chinese speak Mandarin rather than Cantonese, Haka, Hokien, or other regional dialects. There is to be no equal partnerships with other nations, only Sino colonies.

O’Neil refers to Asian education in Australia, ignoring that this is at the expense of education for Australians. Asian graduates, especially Chinese, will use their degrees to exploit Australia and Australians, not support this nation.

China’s ruthless greed and superstitions are responsible for the impending extinction of many animal species, including rhino and tiger. if there is anything to admire about this nation I have yet to hear of it.

I favour tariff restoration, the resurrection of manufacturing and jobs, and the closing down of trade as we progressively meet out own needs.

The arguments that we need trade and foreign investment are pure propaganda. Australia is the last country in the world capable of being fully self-sufficient; which is why we are being especially targeted for economic extinction.

I support ending the military alliance with the US, and sending the million or so Chinese invaders back to their own country.

    • Tony,
thank you, for true words and solutions. To think our predesecors established it all for us, all we had to do was carry on the good works. That is exactly the reason we had the most prosperous and biggest middle class. To undo the damage is a difficult task cause the skills, that were passed from generation to generation, are gone.

” The men met for morning coffee at the cafe. One asked Mate, how his hat store was doing? ‘ It looks like they’re being born without heads’ was his reply.”

    • It is precisely because of the unadulterated crap contained in letters such as that by Tony Ryan that is a major factor in Australia’s inexorable slide down the world totem pole.

  11. Before I immigrated to Oz I did a bunch of research, but obviously not enough. That research took place in the late 1970’s. Australia still produced a lot of its own products, everything from automobiles to textiles. The people were clever, ‘Hill’s hoist’, Victa Lawnmowers, there was even their own aviation industry. – Now it has been destroyed by the corrupt politicians that infest the government.

The country/continent can produce its own goods. Time to switch from sending iron ore and coal to China and start making the steel in Oz.

    • Tptb shut down coal power stations and now we import oil thru the Strait of Hormuz to generate power? The once mighty BHP is gone, replaced by one steel made in India from scrap ships. The people here have been betrayed big time. All that’s left is sending girls and boys to murder in wars of occupation. Our self esteem shattered.

  12. Ok. I am silly conspiracy theorist so ignore …. at your children’s peril.
During WW 11 they ran out the Brisbane line. Give all above that line to the enemy and defend from below.
It was not applied and the US helped, so we kept our country.
After WW 11 India was partitioned.
After WW 11 Europe was partitioned.
    Theybtried with Vietnam.
Paritioning was arranged without any thought of the people concerned.
So, from history, of recent times the people’s wishes are subjet to the whims of the ….. whoevers.
Australia has a fifth column sabotaging Australia…….. they are in Canberra.
The US pollies will feed any crocodile in their own political/globalist interests.
    Plans are conceived decades ahead.
There is a serious suspicion in my experience that Australia will be also partitioned and carved up by those who desire our country. Divided up and raped.
We are being made weak, indebted and globalist corporate vultures circling.
Years back I had a case and toured our St Mary’s (?) ‘armanest’production facility.
    Now it does not exist.
Tell me where in Australia we make a bullet, a tyre, a battery, a radio etc.
Our politicians and bureacrats have created a defenceless continent and populace ready to be carved up and raped of resources.
All we have produced are traitourous politicians.
Now Think: Brisbane line running from Byron Bay South….. to where?

      • Also seeing as you mentioned Byron Bay -did you know law men are singing up the Tjukurrpa from Byron Bay through the central western desert to the ocean in WA.

    • “There is a serious suspicion in my experience that Australia will be also partitioned and carved up by those who desire our country. Divided up and raped.”

Yes it is distressing Ned. And trust me Ned it has happened. Polyfragmentation of mind body soul
Thank you again for your comments–Just spent the day in the Family Court– major Child Protection issues. Scary.

  13. “countries that respect and promote their citizens’ rights at home tend also to be better international citizens.”

Here are just a few of Australia’s human right violations, never mentioned by politicians or the MSM:

John Button, framed with false evidence by WA Police. Even though Eric Cook admitted he committed the crime. Many years in jail for Button.

Andrew Mallard, false evidence provided by WA Police. Jailed for several years.

David Hicks, from Adelaide, falsely presented as terrorist in Afghanistan by CIA.

Schapelle Corby, jailed in Indonesia, because AFP refused to provide evidence that would have exonerated her.

Bradley Murdoch, in jail for a murder that never happened. The supposed dead has apparently returned to family, as brother who was never born. The NT Police know that the accused lied in all her descriptions of crime and scenes.

Martin Bryant who never fired a shot at Port Arthur, has been in jail for 23 years, so far. There is no evidence against him, but there is much evidence in his favour.

These are only the tip of the iceberg.

It is thought that we people in “mushroom land” forget all the crimes committed against us, but some do remember.

A great human rights record to Australia, don’t you think?

  14. Most people, the ninety percent, are essentially good, all sinners some more some less.
All coming from and going to spirit, so we shouldn’t worry too much, even though getting food on the table is getting harder.
The connected know their origin and want to take as many with them as possible. The people that are the idols of this dystopia want a ninety percent reduction in population – agenda 2030.

If we think and care for our children’s future then dystopia must be avoided by whatever sane means possible. The weight is stacked heavily against the majority, but faith can overcome all obstacles. Love your neighbours, cause like us, they had nothing to do with the machinations of the hidden hand. Looking behind the set up there’s not that many pushing the lies, they have the guns, but their numbers are one in ten. Therefore, nine in ten, sanity overcomes all obstacles. Stand up for future generations cause the time is now, otherwise robots will replace them !

    • “The people that are the idols of this dystopia want a ninety percent reduction in population – agenda 2030.”

AND, they will probably get it. As much as I despise the PTB, I sometimes have to admire their brilliance. Take this reduction in population and just the ‘climate change’ insanity. Here we go into a Grand Solar Minimum that is going to significantly reduce available food, and what have the PTB done? They convinced a large part of the population to shut down farms (1,000 a day in Europe) because of environmental/climate change laws. There are people screaming in hysteria for even more restrictions, they are demonstrating in the streets instead of tilling a garden.

They have got that 90% of the population working against their own interests. Perhaps after a couple of years the ‘sheeple’ will wake up to the con, by then it will be too late. However, I do not expect that the sheeple will wake up. The media will just keep pumping out disinformation that the severe weather is a result of CO2 and we have to do MORE.

If they tried to go around and slaughter the 90% they would run into substantial resistance, however, by giving the ‘sheeple’ what they want, by taking the ‘moral high ground’, they’ve avoided any blow back. – Bloody brilliant.

        • I liked this quote from the article “and mass executions of “climate deniers”.

No doubt as things get worse the media will rev up the starving masses to attack those people with enough sense to build a food producing property. You can hear the call now – “Those are the kind of ‘climate deniers’ that have caused this climate crisis, kill them and take their food”

Gonna get ugly, but then those sheeple are the same people that also bought into the gun control agenda…

          • I just envisioned the scene. A mob of Extinction Rebellion lunatics shows up at a property to clean it out. The owner walks out to the fence with his rifle to great them.

“What are you going to do, shoot us all?” – Nope, just gonna shoot one of you, that’s all you can eat at one time.

Takes aim at the loud mouth’s forehead, BOOM!

OK, drag him off and butcher him, when you get hungry come on back and I’ll drop another one for you.

Voice from the back of the mob “But I’m a vegan!”

        • Julius your link https://www.naturalnews.com/2019-11-06-eco-genocide-scientists-demand-globalists-eliminate-billions-of-humans.html

“The climate change Final Solution? Kill billions of people: GEO-GENOCIDE

As we’ve known all along, this entire climate change hoax has always been about justifying depopulation schemes that are nothing short of genocide.

And while the Holocaust of World War II killed a reported six million people, today’s mad climate scientists say they want to eliminate six BILLION people (or more), making the geo-genocide literally one thousand times larger than the Holocaust.

Notably, just as the Holocaust participants threw Jews into concentration camps and starved them to death, today’s proposed eco/geo-genocide would collapse the global food supply and lead to mass starvation, famine, pestilence and basically every nightmare occurrence mentioned in the Book of Revelation.

“The world population must be stabilized — and, ideally, gradually reduced,” claim the 11,000 scientists. Then they talk about ways to “strengthen human rights while lowering fertility rates,” obviously with mandatory (gunpoint) vaccines, a deliberately contaminated food supply, the ongoing exposure to hormone-disrupting food supply chemicals and the mass cancer wave caused by 5G exposure that increases free radicals in the bloodstream, leading to mass death via inflammation that causes heart attacks, cancer and neurological malfunctions.

This mass genocide of human beings will, claim the scientists, “honor the diversity of humans” … “within a framework that ensures social integrity.” Whatever that means. It’s all just doublespeak for an authoritarian, Orwellian society where no one is allowed to question the climate lunacy without being censored, de-platformed, fired from your job and blackballed from science altogether.”

          mmm—

        • Interesting comment at the end of the first video. “The environmental crisis will be the international disaster that will unlock the NWO, one world government.”

I doubt it, I haven’t seen much ‘climate change hysteria’ in Russia or China. Rather, it seems they know what is going on and are preparing and waiting for the collapse of Western civilization.

  15. In all this depopulation hysteria, I have not seen the Royal Families, Rothschild Family, the Rockefella Family, Soros Family or Bush and Gore Families and the “most useless of eaters”, Kissenger family, volunteer to start this agenda. Of course not, we are the super bloodlines! We must carry on.
