The Sociobiology of Suckerdom

I got a problem, you got a problem, all God’s chillun’ got a problem. We are suckers. Every one of us. No person, no matter how smart, is exempt from suckerdom.

And what is it we are suckers for? We are suckers for our emotions, our instincts. We are mammals and we will be forever mammals. The “Adam and Eve situation” did not change us into moral-minded beings who had only to choose between right and wrong, good and evil. Our choices are majorly colored by our emotions and instincts.

You may have been taught that our emotions and instincts are bred into us via our particular culture.  I agree with that.  But how did the culture come to emphasize this or that desirable behavior?  You guessed it — by our emotions and instincts. There is no getting away from it. We are stuck.

Of course, it’s great to be stuck with our mammal-based life. We can do a lot with it.  Shakespeare’s Hamlet cried: “What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason! How infinite in faculty! In form how express and admirable! In action, how like an Angel! In apprehension, how like a God!”

Personally, I don’t want the human animal to be different from what it is. (And I won’t dignify the transhumanist project by mentioning it.) But I have recently uncovered the suckerdom factor, and apparently, it will be the undoing of us. Please hear me out.

My Eureka

The “hidden hand” that directs powerful moves in the world is now visible in the form of globalism. Without even knowing who is really in charge, we can see, easily, that someone determines ALL of the major Media’s output. I can see that someone controls the entire Medical field. I can see that Education (here I know only the American system) is dictated by one voice.

My eureka was not discovering that this is so — we have known it for a while — but that it is impossible to stand up to it. We lack, I now claim, a way to motivate ourselves or to recruit the like-minded, to overcome this thing. Why? Because the human species’ emotional-social structure is not geared for it. we have no structure to help us live in a globalized world.

I digress for a moment to mention the standard meaning of the term “social structure.” Some familiar structures are: a family, a tribe, a workers’ union, a matriarchy, a slave planation, a constitutional government, a men’s secret society, a professional association, an alliance of nations, what-have-you.

Those are real historical social structures.  They come and go — except for the family, which is more or less tied to physical reproduction. Such structures may form gradually, based on the environment’s resources, say, or demographic changes. They can also be designed.

I grew up with an over-emphasis on the designing of social structure.  The US “Founding Fathers” sat in convention, asking of each proposal “How will this work for the states, or the exporters, or the artists, etc.” Ah, you could do that in 1787, but you can’t do it today. We still think we can do it, but we can’t. I believe we should own up to this handicap, pronto.

Emotions

We got our humanness by a long process. I accept the general proposition, known as Darwinism, that a species evolves over time by adapting to its particular environment. The environment for our primate ancestors actually involved swinging through trees — early primates were arboreal.  Hence we can rotate our arms, something no wolf can do.

The set of emotions we now possess and are stuck with were adaptations.  Falling in love is a superb emotion. It makes the partners willing to make sacrifices for each other, all in the long-term interest of their offspring. You can call marriage a contract, but it wasn’t designed at some lawyer’s desk. It’s based on adaptive emotions and instincts. Permanent pair-binding is rare in Nature — among the non-human primates, only the gibbon has got it down pat.

In some ant species, a soldier caste fights off any outside attacker. Human males go to war willingly, and even die willingly when they see the need to defend their group against foreigners.  Human societies then develop a cultural honoring of their soldiers, the “braves.” This adds some emotionality and a mystique about war, perhaps enough to encourage the reluctant when, as now, the enemy is not clearly defined.

There is also an instinct to get a place in the social hierarchy. I didn’t pick up on this in my life till I read about it — the status hierarchy is not as aggressive in us as it is in some other species. Anyway, by the time I came into the world, an individual’s status seemed to be largely based on family status — you got born onto the right side, or the wrong side, of the tracks.

The point of my alleged Eureka is not that we do what emotions and instincts guide us to do — everybody knows that. The point is that in the 21st century, we are in trouble and there is no way, as far as I can see, for us to get out of it. Not any of us!  Not even the most favored.

Playing the Chords

The so-called Protocols of the Elders of Zion contain a boast that is worth paying attention to. (No requirement of establishing the bona fides or the authorship of the Protocols is needed for this.) The boast is as follows:

“Our directorate will have knowledge of all the secrets of the social structure…with the whole underside of human nature, with all its sensitive chords on which they will have to play.”

The particular chords can be deduced from subsequent remarks in the Protocols. For example:  “We shall arrange elections in favor of such presidents as have in their past some dark, undiscovered stain.” The chord is the natural human urge to avoid humiliation. (Also, the man with the stain will be glad to have protection against punishment, by doing what is asked of him — the chord to be played here is fear.)

Another boast in the Protocols: “Capital must be free to establish a monopoly of industry and trade …. This freedom will give political force to those engaged in industry, and that will help to oppress the people.” How true. What industrialist does not take full advantage of workers for his/her own “bottom line”?  The sensitive chord here is greed — every person has it.

Finally, this one: “It is indispensable to trouble people’s relations with their governments so as to utterly exhaust humanity with dissension … even by the use of torture, starvation, inoculation of diseases, so that [they have no option but] to take refuge in our complete sovereignty in money and in all else.” Since most of us, today, don’t live on the land, we have to pay with money for our dwellings and food. We are at the mercy of the wealthy. The chord is hunger.

Gradually even the middle class has begun to realize that we depend on whoever is in the Big House, for survival. And worse, that the Big House person will not be fazed if our needs are not met, and may even be delighted. This is a new feeling for Americans, at least those born after the 1933 Depression, and it is bewildering.  The talking heads on TV add to the mess by giving explanations that we have no control over, such as the price of tea in China, or how to remortgage your bankruptcy.

Intellectual Suckerdom

I am a sucker for my emotions and instincts (of course).  One of my instincts, oddly enough, is rationality. I am definitely a driven person, and the drive is for problem-solving. Would you believe, I have put the last 45 years into trying to solve problems of what I see as injustice.

Ah, come to notice it, maybe I’m also driven by emotions related to justice itself. Robert Trivers, discoverer of “reciprocal altruism” found that it is a genetic characteristic of the human brain to look for balance when giving and receiving favors.

Anyway, my alleged 45-year-long study was split almost equally: 1978 to 1999 in the field of sociobiology, and 2000 to the present, 2023, in law. I have a private library of law books, most dealing with some rarefied point of principle. Yesterday I packed them up, with an eye to tossing them out.

I am sad that I wasted so much time trying to figure out how to make law work, to bring justice and a good life for all. It always seemed possible, to me, that the US Constitution could be the basis for that. I have even competed a few times to become a member of Congress myself, including in 2022.  So let’s pretend that I’d won and thus I’ve been “in office” for the last 6 weeks. What could I do for justice?

I constantly yelp that my country is failing to punish high-ups who need to be punished. You may think people would go for this, as revenge is a big instinct with suitable emotional accompaniments. You’d think I could play upon that chord? instigate the means for Congressional referral for the prosecution to the DoJ? Well, I couldn’t.  The men who run the world have made sure that the base is covered. Impunity is essential to all they do. Their workers must be protected. Elected (or “elected”) politicians will not crack down on the powerful.

Are You Anti-war?

I anticipated being an anti-war legislator, voting a resounding No to declare war. Note: Rep Barbara Lee voted No to the 2001 war on Afghanistan, and boy was that resounding — hers was the only No out of 435 votes.  But, I hear you ask, isn’t there much grumbling about our policy for Middle East wars? Listen to this statement by a US army lieutenant, Ehren Watada, who was scheduled to go to Iraq in 2006. He was indicted for “missing movement.” He said:

“Today, I speak with you about a radical idea … that to stop an illegal and unjust war, the soldiers can choose to stop fighting it. Now it is not an easy task for the soldier. … The soldier must realize that this is a war not out of self-defense but by choice, for profit and imperialistic domination. WMD, ties to Al Qaeda, and ties to 9/11 never existed and never will….

“If soldiers realized this war is contrary to what the Constitution extols – if they stood up and threw their weapons down – no President could ever initiate a war of choice again. When we say [in our oath]  ‘against all enemies foreign and domestic,’ what if elected leaders became the enemy?  Whose orders do we follow? The answer: the conscience that lies in each soldier.”

Stuff and nonsense, I say. The American public listens to its emotions. On being told that the Twin Towers were destroyed by Arab Muslims, the right thing to do was kill their ilk, wasn’t it? In my 2011 book, “Prosecution for Treason,” I theorized that the 2006 Watada affair was a psy-op anyway, i.e., it may have been staged for the purpose of creating false expectations by other soldiers. The court case dragged on for three years, and then got dismissed on a technicality. As usual, the merits did not get listened to by any judge.

You see, law — our best hope for getting a better world — is a social structure that isn’t independent of human instinct. Philip Allott has said, in his 2016 book, “Eutopia,” that “law is our anatomy and physiology.”  I agree, and it can be wonderful in the right setting. But it can be ruined where the setting elicits emotions and instincts that work against law. Perhaps that judge’s instinct was to imitate the office culture of the day, which is to grant immunity to governmental crooks.

Just say Yessir

One more reason why the Powerful get what they want is that our social structure includes plenty of ‘authority.’ Humans are an obedient species. Kids readily disobey, but an adult will obey anyone wearing a badge or handing out written orders. I have no genetic evidence for the trait of obedience.  I don’t need it — even Blind Freddy can see it. We do not act on conscience, other than in our private lives.

The role of religion may be to suck up our desire to obey and to be good. No one would think of disobeying God. In fact, a religion’s doctrines often substitute for thoughtful consideration of what we should do. “God told us” — and that’s that.

In addition to obeying rules, we also follow the norm. That’s how a 3-year-old gets socialized. On Tuesday, he does not yet know how to behave but by Wednesday, a miracle, he just imitates those around him. I subscribe to the not-widely-held opinion that fear of deviating from the norm is extremely constraining. The typical person does not even have the guts to violate the current style in footwear — “you may die from embarrassment.”

Dual Morality — Xenophobia and Predation

We are all racists. Sociobiologist Pierre van den Berghe suggested in his 1981 book “The Ethnic Phenomenon” that the reason we sometimes show cruelty to a minority group is just that they are not protected under our umbrella of altruism. We instinctively look after our own. See my 1990 book, “Morality among Nations,” for the theory of dual morality. Yes, we do have two different criteria when judging whether our treatment of people is right or wrong.

Even at a baseball game, the two teams become “enemies” — it’s a pre-formed category.

In the article at hand, on suckerdom, it has to be stated that a good reason not to accept the move towards globalism is that we don’t have the emotions or instincts to support it. There is not going to be a sudden trend to love faraway peoples or “all mankind.” The caring instinct came about for the obvious good reason that we need help from helpers close by.

Above I introduced the word suckerdom to explain that we are suckers:  when our emotions call on us to do something (such as hit the sack every night) we do it, we fall for it. Sleeping is necessary, but some other instincts are not so necessary. Still, the emotion associated with it usually guides us. We fall for it.

The main point of this article is that we LACK instincts or emotions for some things — and we can’t build social structures on a base of no support. I believe the invention of “international law” is a joke, always has been and always will be. No matter how good it may sound on paper, it will not happen.  No police force will exist to rap powerful leaders on the knuckles.

The late Prof Alfred Rubin at Fletcher School of law and Diplomacy wrote a book whose title is “Ethics and Authority in International Law” but whose message is “No can do.” If anything, there’s massive support for each nation to be as unethical as possible. As Thomas Hobbes so aptly put it: “In war, force and fraud are cardinal virtues.”

One more thing. Humans are predators. In the good old wooly mammoth days, we had several species to prey on. Now we have only each other. Are you under the impression that Walmart, or even your local store, will refrain from tricking you into buying something? I believe we prey to the extent that we can get away with it.   And slavery is not something that happened only in the 1800s in the US.  Slavery has been practiced, and “justified” throughout the ages.

The phrase that is going though my mind is that of Dante, at the gates of hell:

Abandon hope, all you that enter here.

    • It’s a two way street, we have to leave them alone too. Stop going into BlackRock/Vanguard controlled enterprises such as Woolworths and Coles, make a habit of going to your local farmer’s market and asking for non-GMO food. Cut back or stop eating wheat, dairy and sugar. Change your car to LPG or electric with solar panels on the house roof. Don’t use e-money for ordinary transactions. Don’t believe anything you see promoted on the M$M.
      These are all easy things to do, suitable for people raised on TV and fluoride.
      Next level of difficulty is setting up gold based networks, organic farm produce distribution etc. Call out the lies of the politicians and M$M and oligarchs at every opportunity. Reject house and medical insurance and look after your own health and safety. Cops and soldiers need to start their own private unions.
      Try not to fight each other re: skin colour, culture, religion and so forth – you are being played.

    Those who make such claims are trying to be gods in themselves, because they usurp the Creator’s right of ownership. All others have authority, which is delegated to lesser beings and which is to be used to further the will of the Sovereign.

In November 2022 I raised with you the issue of excess mortality as reported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The most recent full report from the ABS shows that, for the first nine months of 2022, there were nearly 20,000 excess deaths, which is about 16 per cent more than the baseline average. Of those, 8,160 deaths were attributed to COVID-19. So where are the rest from? Minister, can you please confirm if the department of health have investigated this large increase in excess mortality, and, if they have, can you advise the Senate what is causing this spike in deaths?

I can say that the department of health would, as routine, look at the reports that come out through the ABS. As the senator indicated in his question, there are reports that the ABS does on mortality statistics and reports they do on the causes of death, and of course the department of health would look at those and examine them to see if there are any trends or issues of concern. I’m advised that it’s important to note that increases in deaths from a range of causes not related to COVID-19—because there is an indication of excess deaths related to COVID-19—have also been observed in 2022. Examples include deaths due to dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, which were 25.6 per cent above the baseline average in June and 21.8 per cent above the baseline average for the year to June.

    While the number of COVID-19 cases and associated deaths has increased in 2022, I think it is important to understand that the proportion of COVID-19 associated deaths relative to the numbers of cases of COVID-19 has decreased overall, which highlights the positive impact of the health measures, vaccination, the changes in transmission and the reduced severity of the omicron variant and subvariants when compared to earlier COVID-19 variants such as delta.

This is an issue which is now in the mainstream media. Even Karl Stefanovic talked about it on Channel 9 recently. He said he wouldn’t take more than two jabs, because he had concerns relating to heart issues. Minister, is the government confident that none of this is because of the mRNA injection?

COVID-19, as a virus, also impacts health and has those health consequences, like pericarditis and myocarditis. If you have a severe case of COVID-19, that is a side effect and consequence of that. The data shows that those who are unvaccinated—so they haven’t had a vaccine, primarily an mRNA vaccine—are much more likely to end up in ICU or passing away. That includes those who are not vaccinated or not up to date with their vaccination. People in my age group are 32 times more likely to end up in hospital if they’re not vaccinated. So the answer to the question is: yes, we are confident. The government and the approving authorities are confident that the mRNA vaccine is safe, and we urge people to be vaccinated. (Time expired)

They do publish adverse events through quite frequent reporting. I think it’s either weekly or monthly that they report on adverse events relating to vaccination status.

    Of course, people are entitled to get advice from their health professional about whether the vaccine is safe for them and take that advice, but I would also urge people, with the fifth dose becoming available, to please remain up to date with your vaccinations. It’s not just an individual decision. This is the thing. It’s not just about an individual’s decision and keeping yourself safe; it’s keeping other people safe from this virus—people who aren’t able to be as protected as some of us. It’s actually a community responsibility to be vaccinated.

  10. My modern Latin dictionary defines virus as a slimy poisonous liquid.

    What caused the definition to change?

    TPTB now define a virus as a mystery deadly predator which can get into your body by standing too close to a bat or whatever. We are being destroyed by a general lack of knowledge thanks to the education system.

      SILENCE FOR FACTS

      This has been repeated endlessly ever since.

      BUT when the Swiss Court of Appeals on Nov. 1, 1937 not only acquitted the principal defendant, Sylvio Schnell, and assessed the entire cost of the trial, 30,000 francs, against the state and reversed the verdict, Jewry kept SILENCE! The decision cited the fact that the Marxist-Judge Meyer had heard not one witness for the defense; had kept no Court record of the proceedings; and detailed other irregularities of the trial.

      The defendants had been arrested on complaint of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Switzerland on the charge that they had violated Article 14 of the Swiss law against distributing obscene literature, at a public meeting – the Protocols. The Appeals Court ruled that the “experts” for the Jews, C. A. Loosi and Prof. A. Baumgarten, appointed by Judge Meyer, not only were biased on the Jewish question, but, moreover, the authenticity of the Protocols had no bearing on the case since they are of a political nature and do not belong in the category of obscene literature.

      The Appeals Court also denounced “the prejudice and gross irregularities” which had been committed in the trial. Not a single one of the 40 witnesses for the defense had been permitted to testify, while all sixteen of the witnesses for the Jewish Community which brought the suit had been heard. . .”

      “The proceedings were accordingly carried on solely upon the testimony of the Jewish plaintiffs. And further, although Swiss law demands that in the case of every law suit, shorthand minutes of the proceedings be taken by an official of the court, the Judge did not adhere to this condition, but permitted the Jewish plaintiffs to appoint two private stenographers to keep the register of the official proceedings during the hearing of their own witnesses.
