“God would not have made you a sheep if he/she/it did not intend that you should be shorn.” (my adaption).
[Apols’: To all sheep and the script writer for the film; “The magnificent Seven”.]
George Carlin has got only half the story. Sure, we’re followers. That’s an evolved trait that we can’t change. But what are we going to do about it? I say we have to work WITH human nature, not against it.
The ideal of independent individuals is a wrong goal now. It is just not possible. So we’re stuck with having to invent some new arrangements for mutual aid. If we don’t want Carlin’s meanies to continue in their current set-up (basically killing us) we have to use the trait of followership to our advantage. Persuade people to follow a new plan.
Mostly we ARE sheep. Start from that, and figure how not to put up with Carlin’s meanies. If you will please listen to Paul Robeson here, the idea is that a slave can do nothing about his lot. In our time that is not true. (At least I don’t think it is.) Bye ad bye hard times come a knockin’ at the door….. but…..
History has shown over and over where the people restructure society…. so it can be done
So good to watch this again – scary though how it hasn’t got better since then, only worse.
I remember watching an interview of Carlin about his career. At one point he said – “I’ve given up on my species”.
He could stand on stage and tell the most ugly truths, right in the face of the audience – and the morons would still laugh.
The audience thought it was a comedy routine…
