Damn — I had hoped the med-beds would arrive in time to miraculously repair my thoroughly messed-up hip. Alas, that was not to be, and so I found myself journeying to India instead.
I am spending Christmas Day in Chandigarh, Punjab, India, and I want to take a moment to thank all those who so generously supported my journey here to the Indus International Hospital for a hip replacement. Your kindness quite literally changed my future. A special and heartfelt thank you to Pastor Paul Robert Burton for setting up the GoFundMe — thank you, Paul, for your belief, your effort, and your generosity of spirit.
Before this journey, I was down to barely 25 excruciatingly painful paces. An 18-month wait in the Australian public system lay ahead, and 2026 was beginning to look quite bleak. The constant pain brought on brain dysfunction. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, I boarded an overnight flight to India on the 11th, was admitted on the 12th, endured a barrage of tests — and on Saturday morning, the 13th, went into surgery.
The Indus Group assigned me one of the most extraordinary and highly sought-after surgeons, Dr Bushu Harna. He has such a confident, commanding, and deeply calming presence — and so I knew I was in the best possible hands. Every doctor and nurse I encountered was exceptional, and the post-operative care I received was nothing short of exceptional. So thanks to Lea Roodt who through the Pridgeon doctors arranged this for me.
Being discharged was an emotional moment. I was surrounded by the most compassionate and genuinely caring people.
I was wheeled in — and I walked out.
I’ll soon be back in Australia, profoundly grateful — with these last few weeks feeling more like a worldly journey of the soul.
Reflecting Back
On December 25, 1931, as Mahatma Ghandi was returning by ship to India after the Second Round Table Conference in London, he was asked by Christian passengers to give them a talk.his was apparently an extract:

When I read Dee’s article today from the Indus Hospital tears flowed and I was quite overwhelmed something much bigger than “me” yet it connected me at the soul level with a fellow traveller.

Wow, Diana what a find… I’m not sure this is the same group. I was under the Indus Group. What a wonderful group of medicos. Dr Bedi and Dr N Singh coordinated my visit. I met two surgeons in Aus. In the public system you can’t choose your surgeon… but I probably would’ve chosen Dr Bushu here over the 2 Aus doctors. Very impressive doc.
