‘We saved Jews 3 times’ – Maybe Iranian Foreign Minister Should Also Address Congress.

I reported the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent address to a joint meeting of Congress, where he said:

“Iran is busy gobbling up the nations.” (APPLAUSE), and “We must all stand together to stop Iran’s march of conquest, subjugation and terror.” (APPLAUSE)

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has urged Netanyahu (speaking on NBC) to refresh his knowledge of history, “He even distorts his own scripture. If you read the book of Esther, you will see that it was the Iranian king who saved the Jews…” 

“It is truly, truly regrettable that bigotry gets to the point of making allegations against an entire nation which has saved Jews three times in its history: Once during that time of a prime minister who was trying to kill the Jews, and the king saved the Jews; again during the time of Cyrus the Great, where he saved the Jews from Babylon, and during the Second World War, where Iran saved the Jews,” he said.

“We’re not about the annihilation of Jews,” Zarif stressed, reminding the channel that 20,000 Jews reside in Iran “in peace” and even have their own representative in parliament. “We have a history of tolerance and cooperation and living together in coexistence with our own Jewish people….”

President Obama is becoming increasingly dependent on Iranian fighters as he tries to contain the Islamic State militant group in Iraq and Syria. In the fight against the common enemy, ISIS, Iranian troops joined Iraqi forces to try to wrest Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit back from Islamic State control.

But in the chaos there are reports that Israel is supporting Syrian rebels (even treating rebel soldiers in Israeli hospitals), and a senior employee of the Dutch Justice Ministry said the jihadist group ISIS was created by Zionists seeking to give Islam a bad reputation. (report here).
