About 20 odd years ago I attended a liquid fuel inquiry and spoke about biodiesel. The oil company representative was entirely negative about biodiesel “nobody is going to put vegetable oil in their engine”

      However, when I indicated that just 2% biodiesel would provide the necessary lubrication and allow the removal of sulfur, the inquiry perked up. They wanted to meet fuel standards and biodiesel could allow them to do it. They asked me for a one page report (with further references) that I could support my assertions.

      Fast forward and they passed a law allowing biodiesel to be used for the lubricant. That sounded good to Australian farmers as they could produce the seed oil to be used for the lubricant. However, the government passed a law that could bypass the Ozzie farmers and get all the fuel credits from using biodiesel produced in Malaysia – they could get the lubricant cheaper and also the fuel credits on top of it.

      One farmer in South Australia decided to produce the seed crops and biodiesel for the fuel companies. He was stunned that after all the work he put into his project he was further into the hole without a buyer. – The government does not work for the population.
