A Hypothetical Exploration into the 2000-Year-Old Crucifixion Cold Case

 By Dee McLachlan

When you start looking at events in a different light, you can’t stop looking.

It being Easter Sunday I now go back nearly 2000 years to an event that changed history forever. I do NOT want to offend any religious followers — but I will delve into a HYPOTHETICAL investigation of the Crucifixion. My writing this is more an analysis of how we can interpret events, versus how we are “told” to interpret events.

It Is All About Interpretation

There are those who believe in the Resurrection, and those who insist that the resurrection — and indeed the life of Jesus at all — is fiction. Historians have offered other versions to the story too; that Jesus survived the Crucifixion, or, the Egyptian Gnostic, Basilides’s version. He believed that Jesus had been substituted by Jesus’s cross-carrying helper, Simon of Cyrene.

Today I offer another hypothetical version of events. (I have searched for, but cannot find any historian offering the following theory.)

I woke up one night, thinking of the extraordinary events that day in Dallas when two JFKs were assassinated within 45 minutes of each other, with almost identical bullets wounds. The Policeman that was shot, Officer J D Tippet, was the spitting image of JFK — and even had the nickname “JFK”. Humans are so inventive.

It made me think: what if Jesus was “switched” in the early hours that morning, some time before his crucifixion?

Like the JFK assassination, or 9-11, a false flag (or psy-op) relies on distraction, a patsy, and some magic. The “written” account (fact or fiction) of the last days leading up to the Crucifixion are riddled with clues

As I said, this is a hypothetical exercise of analysis. So for those skeptical of resurrection (the magic), I present a more plausible explanation from the same information. But let’s go through the options:

1.  The Religious View

Let me start by quoting desitinggod.org:

“…the truth of the resurrection emerges very clearly as the best explanation. There is no other theory that even come close to accounting for the evidence.” [Yes there is!]

2.  The Story of Jesus is Fiction.

For those who don’t believe in the resurrection, the obvious solution is that the whole event is fiction, and was made up.

3.  Jesus Survived Crucifixion

Crucifixion was not so much an execution, but rather a slow (sometimes days) torturing death. There is an article entitled, “Could Jesus Have Survived the Crucifixion?” published on beliefnet. I quote:

“Hugh Schonfield, in his The Passover Plot, suggests that Jesus was drugged —sedated on the cross such that he appeared dead but could be revived later… A sponge soaked in vinegar was placed on the end of a long reed and held up to him. But far from reviving Jesus, the drink from this sponge apparently caused him to die…  [but rather it was] something that would have caused him to lose consciousness—some sort of drug, for example… It was known that a sponge soaked in a mixture of opium and other compounds such as belladonna and hashish served as a good anesthetic.”

4. The Egyptian Substitution Story

The Egyptian Gnostic, Basilides’s theory was allegedly recorded in a statement by Irenaeus in the late second century. It is reported that Basilides believed “Jesus had been substituted during the journey to Golgotha and that this substitute, Simon of Cyrene, had died in Jesus’ stead.” Simon of Cyrene, also known as Jesus’ last helper, was according to three Synoptic Gospels, “compelled” by the Romans to help Jesus carry the cross.

How did they manage to do the switch on the road, with crowds everywhere? I don’t think this ‘sleight of hand’ would be possible, and Simon was of African descent, allegedly.

I thus offer a simpler, and more plausible hypothetical explanation to this all.

5. The Early Switch (Problem, Action, Solution)

Let me go through the indicators from the story the religious scholars wrote, and  Christians asked to believe:

Jesus’ activism had become a problem, and the Priests wanted him gone.

Advanced Knowledge

Interestingly, it has been written that on Tuesday (April 12) Jesus predicted and announced the date of his execution (the 15th). Did this mean it was all planned? After this He went out and deliberately incited the priests. Why would He instigate His own demise?

After a planned final get-together (the Last Supper), Jesus went into the Garden of Gethsemane to await his arrest. (Planned?) He was arrested, then it is written that trials by Jewish High Priests were held through the night. While everyone was sleeping? That’s convenient, but I’ll go along with it.

Jesuscentral.com offers a detailed schedule (but not sure how after nearly 2000 years) of how Jesus was roughed up and imprisoned at Caiaphas’ palace. In the early hours, the Jewish elders ask the Roman government to kill Jesus.

And this is where the story becomes strange.

‘Beyond Recognition’

Pontius Pilate (photo – romeacrosseurope)

Jesus is brought before the Prefect of the Roman province of Judaea, Pontius Pilate — who declares, “I find no guilt in this man.” Allegedly, there is a hearing before Herod Antipas, who returns him to Pilate. Pilate repeatedly tried to release Jesus, but then,

Pilate physically tortured and beat Jesus beyond recognition seeking to satisfy the Jewish leaders. However the Jews demanded that Jesus be crucified. Pilate resisted but eventually gave the order to execute Jesus.”

Bloodied “beyond recognition”, Jesus then faced the mocking in the court (Praetorium). A crown of thorns was added — which was not a common practice.

So were the Romans in on this hypothetical plot? Was Jesus (with help of Pilate and Mary Magdalene’s uncle) switched during this ‘magic hour’?

The Switch

I am suggesting, in this hypothetical exploration, that Jesus was switched with a pre-battered substitute. They probably poured goat’s blood over the Jesus-substitute for effect — making him unrecognizable.

The crown of thorns was probably then used to partly disguise the substitute’s face when he was to carry the cross through the crowds — the place where people and friends (not in on it) might have noticed the switch.

And why did the Romans instruct the African man, Simone of Cyrene, to help carry the cross? Was Simone used as a visual distraction, to take away the focus from the already substituted Jesus?

A Private Affair — Joseph of Arimathea

Mary Magdalene’s uncle, Joseph of Arimathea (J of A) was influential and allegedly had good relations with the Romans. So did they make a secret pact to keep Jesus alive? It seems that the Crucifixion was made a private affair — held in a garden owned by Mary’s uncle, so onlookers were kept at a distance.

After Jesus collapsed (after the anesthetic sponge) on the cross, he was then quickly taken down and buried close by. But all under the control of J of A. To quote Beliefnet:

“Matthew (27:6) adds that the tomb was owned by the wealthy and influential Joseph of Arimathea.” and “Luke (23:49) informs us that the crowds watching were standing at a distance.”

A Group of Wandering Women

I note here, that Pontius Pilate was the person who placed the guard/s at the tomb. The Bible then describes that the tomb was discovered EMPTY by a group of women on the Sunday following the crucifixion. Convenient! Easy to believe a group of women. Then Jesus becomes the ‘the risen Christ’, and in 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, Paul records:

“…He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time…”

The Wounds

John, 20:19-31, tells how Jesus shows them his scars—not once, but twice. I will quote from Paster Leonard J. Vander Zee, reformedworship:

“The risen Christ… shows them [his disciples] his wounded hands and side. He makes a special point of it.” [Why?]

The pastor ponders:

“Wouldn’t it make more sense for the risen Lord to show himself in a resurrection body sleek and whole, marking his complete victory over sin and death?”

Resurrection is not perfect, obviously. Jesus would have to have recovered very quickly. But it would have been easy to create some healing wounds after the fact.

In my human experience, I am looking for a plausible theory in this hypothetical cold case.

Hypothetical Summary

The Resurrection distinguishes Christianity from other religions. So do I believe in Resurrection? It is far easier for me to believe a story about an activist trying to survive.

With the introduction of the internet, we are now educated in centuries of covert operations, false flags and psy-ops. Basilides probably realized that something didn’t quite add up, but I think he didn’t understand how the switch happened, and named the wrong person.

Switching a VERY bloodied prisoner, using a crown of thorn disguise, creating a distraction with Simone, keeping the Crucifixion and burial at a distance (on private property), using a drug to dope the substitute, controlling the tomb, and using a group of woman witnesses would have been very much easier than resurrection. (I would like to believe the substitute did it for money, and was whisked quickly away, to be revived.)

As some say, maybe the whole story was made up. But then why did they write up the fictitious events with so many holes and flaws? After reappearing — maybe to rile the priests — I guess Jesus then went on a kind of “witness protection program”, reportedly following Mary Magdalene to what is now France. He must have really peeved those priests off, coming back to life like that. But, I doubt Jesus (if such a person historically existed) thought his reappearance would change history so dramatically for billions of people.

Have a safe and happy Easter.

  1. Mary, I will come up with something almost as good. Firstly I don’t believe that the event happened.

Next, if with all the technology that we have today (or 22 years ago), the public could be fooled that Martin Bryant was the gunman at Port Arthur and the “Court” proved that it was Martin, how easy would it have been to fool uneducated, superstitious people 2000 years ago?

On the point about Jesus having gone to France, how is it that Biblical stories, don’t tell of him taking up his crusading career at that time? Did the Bible- storytellers, also retire?

      • And the idea that the people of the day were more superstitious and less educated than they are now????????????????????????????

        • There’s a number of factors that,at face value,don’t make a lot of sense.
e.g: If you can’t grasp why he was fraternising with Judas(a member of the movement that preceded Zionism) the whole message is bound to escape you.

  2. Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.

They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

But be not thou far from me, O Lord: O my strength, haste thee to help me.

Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.

Save me from the lion’s mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.

I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.

For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.

My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.

All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

For the kingdom is the Lord’s: and he is the governor among the nations.

All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.

A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.
    PSALM 22: 12 – 31 (KJV)

    • NB: Those words were set down circa 1050 BC

I may not understand how prophecy works but I sure do know that;s it’s real

NBB:I was born and raised in an atheist family and have had scarcely anything to do with any form of organised religion

  3. Ned, thanks for the story above. I am a punter and was, in the days of Fine Cotton, but did not know of the follow up stories.

Getting back to Easter. I have never been able to correlate the supposed death of Christ and the forgiving of sins of people following that supposed event. To me, there is no logical connection. Then again, I too was brought up in a household that was not brainwashed by religion. But we were brought up in an environment of moral behaviour and thoughts. This behaviour appears to be missing in many so-called religious families and people of religion. e.g. Pope Francis, Ian Paisley,
Elizabeth II and the other Royals, Tony Blair (a supposedly devout Catholic), and it seems Cardinal Pell.

It seems to me that the Ten Commandments is also not necessarily an invention of religion. Most of the so-called Commandments are actually common-sense behaviour for humans to be able to live together in an organised society. Anyone with moral fibre could have come up with most of that list, without any effort.

  4. Good article and something l have pondered for a while. But my belief ( if he ever lived at all ) was the wounds were survivable and he spent a few days in a cave recuperating before saying bye and high tailing it outta there before it happens again. There is a great doco which I now can’t remember but it’s l find it will post

Btw the carbon dating fiasco relates to carbon dating of the repaired section that post dates the origin of the ST by centuries.

    • Thanks Mary, that is what the material globalists fascists want to oblerate as did the marxists Bolsheviks did, now been continued via Soros , UN and their African invasion of christaldom supported by their globalist controlled murdochracy and waste of space and money; the ABC.
Dr Day is proven to be spot on.

  6. The world is in this mess because Christ was not a Aussie, otherwise he would have exclaimed:
“Forgive them father, fore they not know what they do. Their msm and political fools are f -wits and have not have heard a word I have spoken.”
How the world might be different?
    Happy Easter.

  7. Some say the story is astrotheology. The planet was moving into the age of Pisces, the fish, and the masses needed a big event to be swayed. Like Akhenaten destroying the bulls as a lead in to Aries, the lamb of god had to die to allow the fisher of men to rule. Chicks were used to open the tomb due to the female symbolism within the vesica pisces. It’s what’s next we should be interested in, as in what will Aquarius bring. All four lead writers of the writing team quote the protagonist here but to choose Luke 22.10 … a man carrying a jug of water will meet you. Follow him into the house he enters. Hopefully this guy will lead us to somewhere better. Maybe to a place where chicks rule. That would help balance the patriarchal nightmare Akhenaten gave us.

  8. Because of the clergy, the depth of ignorance [with all due respect] regarding the truth of WHY Jesus died, is beyond sad. It will be tough trying to be thorough while staying out of the weeds, but I’ll try. One reason for resurrection confusion, TODAY, we the people are ‘taught’ by the puppet clergy. Remember, the early Christians had no clergy ‘class’. Todays clergy was a ritual brought in AFTER the Church became corrupted.. as was prophesied to occur when the last Apostle died. Both Jesus and Paul informed us that ‘The Apostasy’ [false teachings; lies] would enter into, and replace Bible truth. -Acts 20: 29, 30; 2 Thes 2: 3, 6; 2Tim. 2:16, 17; 1Tim4: 1-3; Matt 13: 24-30. [Using a Bible without archaic English will be helpful]
Satan moves fast. First, at the council of Nicea, about 250 years after the last Apostle died, the Arians were voted down and [did you know?] Jesus was made equal to his Father. Then at the Counsel of Constantinople, the full Trinity doctrine became Church Law. Very quickly the law was, either believe Jesus is equal to his Father, or be burned alive with all your family.. so, quick conversions!
This new doctrine, the ‘Athanasian Creed’, teaches that Jesus is both, ‘The Son of God’, AND, ‘God the Son’.. Jesus being equal in ALL ways to his Almighty Father. Don’t believe me? Ask your clergy person!
This LIE that human Jesus was god-man, nullifies what the Holy Scriptures refers to as Jesus’ RANSOM, found at Matthew 20: 28, and at Romans 8:23, but [Rom] replaced in some Bibles with ‘redemption’. Christendom rejects the ‘Ransom’. Is it important? It’s paramount!

Ransom answers why Jesus’ death was [YES] planned before hand. The Jews, Gods chosen people at that time, were living under the Mosaic Law. The lamb that was killed and eaten [without breaking any of its bones] on their big celebration, Passover, was the typical representation of the Messiah, Jesus. This was why John the Baptizer referred to Jesus as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” Jesus was to become that lamb, on Passover night, and he knew it. John 1:29 Ok.. but why.. and how was this achieved?

I cannot stress this enough.. Jesus cannot RANSOM IF he is a god-man as the Churches claim with their Trinity doctrine. Satan loves trinity doctrines. [The Egyptians (Ra-Isis-Osiris) and Babylonians (Moloch-Ishtar-Thoth) worshipped them back when Moses was around.] A ransom is an ‘equal’ exchange of payment for that which is being ransomed. In this case, it would be the life of the perfect man Adam. Adam was the only perfect man who existed and because he disobeyed, not only he died, but all of his children were under this curse. Romans 5:12
To FIX this, a perfect man [Jesus] had to live, be tested, and not fail any of the tests [not sin] to repurchase dying and sinful man. -Romans 5: 18, 19. This could ONLY occur if Jesus was a ‘Ransom’.. a perfect man like Adam. Equal for equal, eye for eye. If Jesus was anything more than a perfect man, then it could not be what the scriptures call ‘a ransom’.

Regarding his trial, yes, many laws were broken.. such as a trial during Passover and his trial at night. The Jews slapped Jesus, spit in his face, and punched him. The Romans made a crown of thorns and beat it into his head, but nowhere do the inspired scriptures read he was beaten beyond recognition. After he was impaled, two humans he spoke to were his friend and disciple, John, and his mother. Both recognized him. Matt 26:48 – 27:66
During Passover, a body could not be left hanging at night. Those nailed up would suffocate slowly, so criminals would push with their feet to relieve this torture. To speed things up the guards would break their legs, as they did with those hanging with Jesus. However, Jesus was already dead [fulfilling the prophesy that none of his bones would be broken (like the Passover lamb)]. To make SURE he was dead, one soldier pierced his chest with his spear. It reads blood and water poured out, assuring them he was dead. -John 19:31-37 [The guards lives depended on him being dead, AND this ALSO fulfilled the Messianic prophesies at Zech 12: 10, “They will look to the one they pierced, and Ps 34:20].

His tomb [small cave] stone was SEALED, and under Roman guard. It was rolled away by an angel. His body was destroyed by God, just as it was depicted for centuries by the burnt sacrificial lamb. Being sinless, he could have been legally resurrected with his fleshly body [wages of SIN is death] and lived forever on earth, Gods original plan for man, but he ‘sacrificed’ THAT earthly life. Resurrected as a spirit, he materialized a human body [which obedient spirit beings can do] which is why no one recognized him.. UNTIL he spoke. 1Peter 3:18

Jesus keeping integrity until death, showed that Adam could have. Adam also condemned his children [us] to die, however, Jesus ‘bought’ them/us, saving them from Adams condemnation, with ‘his’ life. Therefore those believing this and following Jesus’ teachings have the opportunity for Jesus to adopt them as HIS children, and when he comes and returns the earth to paradise, we can live there forever, fulfilling Gods original plan. Ps 37:10, 11; Isa 11:6-9; Rev21:3, 4

Almost everything the Churches teach, is backwards. Here’s some detective work. The original language that the Christian scriptures were written in was Greek. My Greek Bible concordance is ‘Vine’s, which gives a lot of detail, but use whatever is accurate and check this out.
At Mt 10:38, 16:24; Lu 9:23; Heb 12:2, refers to what Jesus was nailed to. In Greek, it is a stauros.
Acording to John 4:23, 24 worship is only acceptable if it is true. Churches teach Trinity, and this symbol used in pagan worship, going back before Moses’ time in Egypt.. the ankh.
Considering what was said in my first paragraph.. THIS conspiracy is MUCH larger than Kennedy OR 9/11.
Bet ya don’t touch it though, Dee. : )

    • Thanks for the long comment. I am definitely no religious scholar. The opposite. But I’ll be posting a G5 piece soon.

    • ISAIAH 53 (739 BC)

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

    • Idolatrous text-worshippers would be dismayed to learn (if they could be persuaded to put aside their fantastic speculations to do some historical research) that the Bible was assembled and authorised some 320 years after the death of Apostle John. It was never intended to be, nor was it claimed to be, the sum of all knowledge. Indeed, John states explicitly that if all that Jesus said were to be written the World couldn’t contain all the books.

Ever since the Crucifixion there have been messiahs and prophets popping up all over the place. About 300 AD just kick a bush and there would be some Glen or Joseph Smith or Jezebel in it knocking up a new Gospel, Epistle or prophesy. The joint was flooded with apocrypha. The Church Fathers decided there needs to be some order and consistency so they assembled the most respected and scholarly disciples of the disciples to select and approve what they could be certain were genuine Apostolic writings and the OT books that Jesus had used in His teachings. I look on it as akin to lecture notes of the great teachers.

As such it is the property of the Catholic Church and it needs to be explained and interpreted according to the Tradition of belief that descends from the Apostles. No one ever has any authority whatsoever to deviate from, add to, delete from, or change anything of that deposit of Apostolic Faith.

It is a text for the edification of the honest faithful, the constraint of rash fanciful speculations of theologians and scholars. But, of course, it is liable to be misappropriated by diabolic and human perversity. These days Bible-bashing seems to be the preserve of nutty, self-appointed “prophets” and bitter and twisted atheists.

      • Actually, NO- it wasn’t!.
The INSPIRED scripture was complete when John died, about 100 C.E.
Your comment refers to the CATHOLICS version, which wasn’t complete until after 300 CE. Most, [even Catholics] don’t know their Bible contains ‘books’ that are NOT Canonized- or Inspired.. -like the Book of Thomas.

With Johns death, and with his ‘letters’ complete in 98 CE [Common Era – not A.D.] THAT completed the Holy Scriptures, 66 books written by about 40 human secretaries make up all the Hebrew writings and Christian Greek scriptures that Protestants call , ‘The Bible’.
EVERYTHING needed to understand WHY humans are where we are, as well as why God allows it [for the present] is in those 66 books!
In todays Catholicism is the word ‘Pope’.. NOT found in the Holy Scriptures. Neither is the Christian word ‘Trinity’, what their Churches call the ‘foundation ‘ of Christianity.

Oldavid -YOU say “The Bible is the Property of the Catholic Church”? HOW pompous!
The Catholic Church is a Maze of human tradition (commands) that violates scripture! They are the Anti-type of disobedient Israel that Jesus SLAMED, for putting tradition ahead of Gods word! -Mark 7:6-13

        • Glen says:
“The INSPIRED scripture was complete when John died, about 100 C.E.”

How do you know that? Who said so and why would you believe them?

  9. There have been mention that if woman were to rule, mankind would be better off. I don’t think there would be any difference. In the Western World we experimented with Margaret Thatcher, Julia Gillard, Teresa May and Angela Merkel, Jacinda Ardern, Jennifer Shipley, Helen Clark.

Was there any appreciable difference with them at the helm? In the case of Maggie Thatcher, Julia Gillard and Angela Merkel, definitely not and Teresa May is not shaping up any differently.
