A Night Out with the American Broadcasting Corporation and My Non-Arrest

Just a quick report on tonight’s evening news (April 4, 2019), as seen on local TV in Concord, New Hampshire, presented by the ABC national network.

I have not owned a TV since 2004, but sometimes I see the news flashing away on a huge screen in a restaurant, often with captions, as was the case tonight.

The program opened with the anchorperson, a serious-looking forty-ish man, highlighting what was to come: “new twist” in an old kidnapping, “chaos in the cockpit” and “Attorney General Barr under fire.”

I’ll keep this short as there is no point wasting your time with it — except to say that at least Australia has GumshoeNews.com where you can hear about many big issues on which citizens can have a say.

“Strange Twist in Old Story”

The opening item is usually an important one but I can’t see how the matter here was of any relevance to anything. It was not local (southern NH) and not hot. They showed the case of a little boy who “went missing.” That’s why I started to follow the screen in the first place, as I am on the trail of missing children with regard to our Family Court series. They showed a surveillance photo of a mom and little kid, perhaps generic footage?

The case is so old that apparently an 18-year-old had come forward a while back saying he was the kidnapped kid, now grown up.  So what is the “new twist” today?  It is that he has recently confessed that he made it up. Oh dear.

This led to a mother and grandmother being interviewed; they were in tears.  I guess the whole thing is a crock and so perhaps the rellies are crisis actors. Still, if they are employed to do this, the two women have used up their turn. The camera showed them close-up and so they won’t be able to play a different role soon.

“Chaos in the Cockpit” (so called)

Then we went to the airline disaster story. Due to noise in the restaurant I did not catch where this happened but captions on the screen said it may have been due to a bird strike.  (I don’t mean the birds were on strike; you almost never hear of industrial action in the US press).

ABC then showed a (re-enacted) hand of the pilot switching off the device that causes a plane to deal with birds in the engine.  Over and over they showed a model plane in the air flopping around and then headed straight for earth.

They also showed broken plane parts on the ground, a la 9-11 Pentagon (or Shanksville, not), but no interviews with the bereaved.  Maybe it was a cargo plane? Other than the broadcaster’s need to fill in the time, the only point of this episode that I can guess is that it makes everyone have some worry next time they go aloft.

“Barr Under Fire”

The next item in the show should have been called Never Say Die, Democrats. It showed a photo of Mueller (didn’t he retire?) and a photo of paper files.  The “news” is that the Dems are not satisfied that the finale of the Russian probe was handled properly – oh my achin’ back.

They said Attorney General William Barr should have not used his own words to summarize it, but should have quoted Mueller. As that would hardly fill a screen, we were shown photos of Pelosi and Trump. Or Nixon’s dog Checkers, or something.

The next item was an announcement of a new presidential candidate for 2020, Tim Ryan.  He will “help the poor.” Right. (Did not mention his stance on gun control or white supremacy, amazing – opportunity lost.)

Miscellany

Then we had a hostage scene.  No analytical stuff as to how the mention of “hostage” calls for federal involvement. No close-up shots, just scenes from the air of 11 armed men marching toward a car on the highway.

Next, Mark Zuckerberg was briefly interviewed but I blinked and missed the captions so I don’t know the topic. Could have been anything, even diet, as media now often poses as friend to the consumer. (Needless to say, I don’t mean the networks are going to help consumers fight off the 5G rollout, or even mention it.)

Next screen said “Foreign Correspondent.”  He, casually dressed and standing in the woods, had a British accent and said people were being warned to be careful of border crossers – in Uganda!  Nothing further re context of that. (Maybe it was a commercial? The entire half-hour news show seemed to have only one ad, for a blood thinner.)

Then, almost like the opening story, we heard “Police think they have found the body of a female student who disappeared last week.”

Look, thousands of kids have disappeared.  Come to Gumshoe for the dirt on that.

Finally, we learned that Prince Harry has criticized a certain toy — the screen showed a game with machine guns. The closing remark was “He thinks children should spend more time outdoors.”

Don’t know why HRH gets airtime in the land that cut the ties that bind back around 1776. Maybe because the pregnant wife is Yankee, but no mention was made of her.

Current Whereabouts of our Opinion Editor

For any reader wondering why I am in in the northern hemisphere again, it could be that I was afraid of getting arrested in Australia.  I went to my lawyer in Adelaide to ask about Fixated Persons.  He had not heard of it and said if arrested I should ask, under common law, to be taken to a judge. (Never mind that judges were the issue in the first place!)

Yes I was apprehensive on arrival in Oz, especially as the 14-days jail time would have ruined my Fringe show. (“Even with a turkey that you know will fold….”) But then in later March, when I took a spot of action for a Protective parent, I was sorry they did not arrest me.  I had plans to counter-arrest them as a citizen arrest. I am not revealing what the charges would have been, as that is my little secret for next time. But if they had not played ball, I was going to add the charge of “resisting arrest.”

How many times must I say it — the law is the greatest gift to mankind.

      • I think Arlyn is saying is the plane that was claimed to be MH70 and which was shot down was in fact not MH70 but another plane. Why would this be done I’m not sure.

        Of greater importance is that the Australian govt has never put any pressure on the Ukrainian Government to release the control tower tapes of the event when all the enquiries were going on. I read recently in the report referenced below that immediately the plane was shot down someone in the Ukrainian control tower tweeted “Ukrainian forces have just shot down MH70.”

        As I recall, this tweet was contained in a report issued by the Russian government. The Russian government traced the shell concerned from the Russian factory where it was made to the point where it was handed over to the unit in the area that did the shoot down, using ordinance hand over records.

        Like others I also think the parts of the plane where the pilots sit were also raked with cannon fire from both sides of the plane. Witnesses (local villagers) on the ground saw two jets following MH70

        This issue is being suppressed in the Australia media and press. All is silent of the political front with this issue with the sudden resignation of Julie Bishop.

        Aussie Government collusion

        According to this presenter, ex PM Malcom Turnbull, Julie Bishop, Alexander Downer and George Brandis is going to be indicted shortly for their part of attempting to overthrow a duly elected president of a foreign country and colluding with another country to do so the UK.I have seen three Youtube videos mentioning Alexander Downer and also how Australia and the UK illegally spied on President Elect Trump and how they continued to spy on him after he was elected President.

        So the Gang of Four or more Malcolm Turnbull, Julie Bishop the Minster for Foreign Affairs, George Brandis the High Commissioner to the UK and Alexander Downer who was the High commissioner in London. I would add the insidious criminal CIA who have most certainly infiltrated the Australian intelligence services which is quite obvious in a number of areas. This is High Treason of helping a foreign government to oust a democratically elected President of another country.

    Thanks. There is so much Pixelating today. The AFP must have their reasons I suppose. One would be for undercover and the other would be at their request. It never used to happen.

  8. The first story isn’t new, the boy disappearing was old footage, but the boy saying it was him was in the last few weeks..
    The mother of the child seen walking him out of the store commited suicide, and she left a note sayiing the child was “hidden” and authorities would never find him.
    So they have no idea whether he was dead or alive!!
