Debt and Taxation in The Intergenerational Context

I see a huge intergenerational issue here because I regard it as perverse, bordering on theft, to pay for today’s consumption and speculation by “printing” money and then conveniently plonking the resulting debt on tomorrow’s balance sheet.

39% of all of the US dollars ever printed were printed in 2020.

Here in Australia, the Reserve Bank has started monetising the debt by buying bonds.  Printing now continues apace worldwide, with central banks everywhere monetizing vast amounts of government spending. Nirvana for politicians. But where is all that deficit spending going?  And what is the purpose of taxation and what is the role of debt in a world where deficit spending is out of control?

I understood that the purpose of taxation included the notion of the allocation of resources – we can’t all get something for nothing, and that we must have skin in the game – via the taxes that we all pay – to influence where money is spent.

Huge spending decisions were once made in a world where markets decided prices, including that of money.  Vast sums borrowed and spent on consumption, rampant speculation, and the propping up of asset prices would have been met with rising interest rates, thanks to the bond vigilantes. This is probably why vast sums in days gone by were spent on productive assets instead. Share buybacks, executive bonuses in the $billions, bailouts and SPACs were not regarded as worthy of central bank largesse provided at zero interest.

Fast forward to today, where trillions of dollars are now being printed ex-nihilo by central banks, cloaked in banker-speak like quantitative easing and asset purchases.  Here’s a snippet from the US Federal Reserve alone.  Since this was published, the number is over $7 trillion and growing by $120+ billion per month in the US alone.  Central banks everywhere, including here in Australia, are doing the same thing, with the express policy of suppressing interest rates and boosting asset prices.  The wealth effect.

This money is not going into productive assets.  The vast majority is going into jacking up prices of mostly unproductive assets like existing shares, bonds, and housing stock, into capital, not labour, and into speculation, not investment.  And none of this largesse is being funded – not even close – out of current taxation.

If those trillions had to be accounted for – even a little bit – out of current taxation, it is doubtful that any of this mess would have been allowed to happen.

To make matters worse, this money spigot is sustaining an ever increasing pile of zombie companies, in the process denying a generation of youngsters the opportunity to benefit from the creative destruction that is no longer allowed to happen.  Is it any wonder that wages and productivity are dead?  Why the hell would one start a business or enterprise in an environment like this?  Back in the late 1980s, less than 3% of the companies listed on US stock exchanges were zombies, according to the BIS. By 2018, 19% were zombies.  That number, post-COVID, has surged.

Zombies are over-leveraged, very risky companies with a business model that is not self-sustaining – meaning it needs to constantly raise new money from new creditors to pay existing creditors.  The only way that this continues is because the share price keeps rising, and that’s where the central banks and their asset purchases and the deliberate suppression of interest rates come in.  And now even zombies are passé, challenged by the hottest “investment” class for 2020 – SPACs, companies with no commercial operations formed strictly to raise capital through an initial public offering.  Gambling trumps hard work and problem solving, with the central bank at your back.

Oxfam recently said that the combined wealth of the world’s top 10 billionaires skyrocketed by $540 billion in 2020, and it’s been on a tear so far in 2021. The status quo is looking after itself on the future’s dime.  There is nothing going on here that includes investing for the future.  That $540 billion has been handed to those billionaires via increased asset prices thanks to a direct state-sanctioned transfer via money created out of nothing and shifted from some future taxpayers (the young) to present asset holders (not the young).  This is happening everywhere, including in Australia.

While it is correct to say that we’ve always been taxed to pay for borrowing for things that benefit future generations, the bargain has been that the extent of the borrowing has been offset by, and hence limited by the reasonable expectation that the borrowing can and will be paid for by current, not just future taxation.  The real economy drove the financial one, not the other way around.

The single most important canary in the coalmine preventing rampant excess in the present on the future’s dime has been the interest rate. Whenever it looked like borrowing was getting ahead of the reasonable expectation that it will be repaid, rising rates settled the matter.  No more.  Rates are zero.  Or negative.  Forever, apparently.  And not because the market has decided that there’s no repayment problem ahead.

Rates are where they are precisely because they have been deliberately manipulated there by our politicians and central banks, without any apparent regard for where this leaves the next generation.  The official interest rate here in Australia is 0.1%, and debt, asset and house prices are predictably going bezerk.  The Reserve Bank, meanwhile, assures us that it is “monitoring” things.  Economists spout that even with the massive debt now being incurred, the interest bill is manageable, but economists are missing the circular nature of their argument, entirely. The tail is wagging the dog.

It is also the case, quite logically, that older folk own more assets than younger folk.  Younger people mostly rely on their work, and not their investments, to get ahead.  So when the central banks everywhere are printing up $trillions annually and throwing the money at asset prices, they are absolutely one of the leading causes of wealth inequality, including that between the present generation and the next one.

The trend in the chart below is as relevant to young-old as it is to rich-poor.  And that’s before we count the unfunded liabilities looming just ahead thanks to the debt hangover from those central bank balance sheets blowing out everywhere.  And when a generation of youngsters wise-up en-masse to realise that there’s more to be made from front running the central banks and cashing in a stimmy check to trade shares in bankrupt or near-bankrupt zombies like GameStop, AMC, or Hertz instead of doing something enterprising, then what?

  2. The ATO is a branch of the foreign owned RBA and collects taxes to pay the interest on the governments accrued foreign debts.

    A balanced budget is when revenue is sufficient to pay the fiscal years interest bill.

    • Hey crisscross, look at how Brandis referred to the Commonwealth, and also ‘states’ and ‘territories.’
      One of the definitions of ‘territory’ is that it is a sub-jurisdiction of the larger and a surprising number of statutes (when read carefully) only pertain to ‘territories’.

      Brandis spoke the truth, but he was disingenuous in how he represented it.

      Reminds me of what Paul Keating meant when he asked and answered the following:
      “How do you know when a politician is lying?”
      “You will see his lips moving!”

      And the original Income Tax Assessment Act came into existence in 1936, when the Commonwealth was put into receivership and the creditors/bankers took over.

  3. The film “The Big Short” was a revealing analysis of the mechanisms of the current fiat economy prevailing today.
    Anything can be made into a security, including a bet.
    Liken it to going to the casino and compiling the sum total of ‘value’ of each bet made during a session, and treating that sum total as an expression of the value transacted within, and representing the economy.
    – a big number, but nothing is produced other than the act of providing the service of dealing the cards.

    Such is the nature of a fiat economy, which is created by government using legal fictions as the participants, and with the purpose of administering a bankruptcy (legacy of the financial emergencies from the 1920’s and early 1930’s).

    The substance has been put into trust, and like all criminal activities, this is concealed in another set of books which the public are not privy too.

    The equitable worth of the people has also been securitised and sold on the securities market, with the proceeds needing (by necessity to comport to equity principles) to also be put into trust.
    The productive capacity of the people is what is used to underwrite the performance of the legal fictions.

    Who/what creates the taxpayer?
    It is the ATO, reliant on the authority of the de facto corporate government that creates the taxpayer, and to do this it requires someone to agree to act as surety for the legal fiction that a taxpayer is (this agreement occurs when one puts in an “Application” for an account with the ATO to be created and to be granted the use of a tax file number).
    The taxpayer is dead, inanimate, has no capacity to perform, so it is the surety that has the duty to act for the taxpayer, and where the surety fails this obligation, then the surety gets hauled into court.
    And the skill in the con is to convince the surety that what he contributes in his capacity to actually produce in the equitable jurisdiction as tangible substance is actually a product of the taxpayer in the legal jurisdiction.

    Government does not have the authority to tax the act of conversion of equitable substance into legal fictional substance, because it merely facilitates this process and the equitable owner remains the creator of the equitable substance.
    Its authority only allows it to tax an exchange/transfer within the legal jurisdiction.

    The people are the true owners of the equitable substance of the land, but through a combination of fraudulent concealment by dark forces and wilful ignorance by the people, they have been divested of their equitable title.

    The good news is that they can claim it anytime they elect to shed their ignorance and awaken to their rights, and how to claim them.

  5. Wealth is being transferred from retired baby boomers to the plutocrats (let’s say top 1000) and the elites (let’s say top 0.1%) via trickle-up. Government spending (vote-buying) via printed money in all its forms, is a covert tax. They can tax us as hard as they want because we still feel rich for two reasons. 1. asset prices rising due to low rates & 2. industrialised supply chain, where all our needs are mass produced and “streamed” by global media etc or by logistics for tangible products. The elites will soon own the entire supply chain for everything, when they have bought up all the farms or simply control them through fund managers. Look around the shops, they are all the same chain stores, everything else is destroyed, the elites want to control the entire supply chain of everything. The youth is instructed that retired baby boomers own everything but these are being culled and wealth-extracted by the old-age industry which through fear of death etc extracts wealth at a faster rate than anything else in a person’s life cycle. The youth no longer expect to inherit the family home, it has gone to the extraction industries, and their job and more importantly business opportunities have gone offshore and into the elites supply chain. So the youth has been primed for socialism, thinking this is the change that will get them a fair cut in life, they are wrong of course, it’s just another step on the way to the biggest swindle of all time, what they need to do is make the parents hand over the house, stick them in a granny flat and look after them until their last gasp.
    Personally I got no inheritance from my parents so I had to work excessively but the result is I now have plenty of money and I have found a young person with a humble dream of having a vet clinic so I am planning to do that to be my anonymous legacy, as a bonus I will figure out everything about euthanasia and consequently BigPharma won’t get another cent out of me.
    On debt to GDP and potential rising interest rates etc, the dollar is a fantasy, it’s convertible into gold or whatever other hard assets, one way to protect your nation is to throttle down foreign ownership. No dual citizens !!! No multinationals !!! In Thailand foreigners may not buy land, they may buy up to 49% of apartment blocks (strata title type arrangements), where you are basically buying some building product + leasing some air-space until the rules change.

    • I already did, you make your parents leave you the house and in return you look after them in their dotage, it’s the traditional Chinese system, surviving until relatively recently. Cut out all the parasites. Grow tomatoes on your 1/2 acre+ block. Have a community. All too hard for so many, I don’t really know why. So much effort is wasted on doing things other ways.

        • Another tip by the way, if you aspire to join the elites, try to intermarry as much as possible, cousins or auntie-nephew and uncle-niece, all these arrangements will keep the money in the “family trust” (hint hint the smartest one has to get a commerce degree) don’t let a damn cent escape whatever you do, extract full value, that’s what you’re up against, it’s a sort of civil war on a tribal level.

    • I keep stating that what presents as government today is in fact nothing other than a corporate administration of a bankruptcy.
      That’s why the ‘government’ appears to be registered as a corporation.
      (the de jure Commonwealth still exists as a form of sovereign expression by the people, but the current Constitutional status is extremely confused given that the Commonwealth began as a colony and no bona fide instrument or process of law exists that altered that status – check out Senator Culleton’s UK active court case)

      The currency in general circulation is akin to corporate script and is novated debt.
      The assets of the people were put into an equitable trust.
      This process was authorised by the people in the commonwealth referendums of 1910 and 1928 regarding the Commonwealth taking over the obligations of State debt.

      The Commonwealth used trusts and equity to facilitate this undertaking, and the States provided the equitable collateral in the form of the individual pledges of the people represented by the “generally deposited Birth Registration Statements”.

      The Commonwealth converted those pledges into securities, traded them for legal tender and used the ‘money’ to make the wheels of commerce in the legal jurisdiction turn.

      Prof. Werner states that:
      – banks don’t lend money
      – banks create the money supply
      – banks are intermediaries of securities.

      The nature of banking is controlled by equity.

      A security is an equitable asset ‘converted’ into something of nominal value in the legal jurisdiction.
      The beneficiary of the equitable asset is the one who has the right to own the eq. asset, which is the maker of the note or the heir to it, and so that which is acquired from the use of the security in the legal jurisdiction is really owned by the one who has the right to own the equitable asset.
      This is pure equity, of which statutory equity is a legal shadow of.

      If someone has an obligation in the form of an invoice or claim against them or the legal entity (the BC entity) they have use of and are surety for, then there is an equitable estate which exists from which this obligation can be ‘extinguished’.

      When a legal title comes into contact with the exact equitable title equivalent, the 2 ‘merge’ and the legal tile is subsumed into the equitable and ceases to exist.

      What does this mean in plain English?

      There is a way to modify an invoice/Statement of Account/legal obligation into an equitable asset, which can then extinguish that debt.
      For this to be facilitated, there needs to be a ‘special relationship’ between the surety and someone in the corporation who has the capacity to act in the equitable jurisdiction, and by the surety’s special action, has the obligation to act as a trustee and fiduciary.

      In other words, we have to express the law and nature of the equitable trust and the parties thereof.
      The nature of the “Application” has to be changed by affirmative action so that evidence exists of this equitable trust and the rights of the beneficiary thereof and all this needs to be sealed from the public.
      This takes special action and occurs in the private , hidden from the public and beyond the public/legal jurisdiction.

        Yes, it was very good when Renaissance men came here post ww2, contributing in building, arts and culture here. The fifties, sixties and seventies with sovereign protectionist policies and Tarrifs, promoting self sufficiency and national pride.           Most of the Ities who came here post WW2 were Catholic.
          The so-called “White Australia”policy was more about creating a prosperous, egalitarian society than so-called “racism” as acknowledged by this write-up:

          ‘We quite sympathise with the determination…of these colonies…that there should not be an influx of people alien in civilisation, alien in religion, alien in customs, whose influx, moreover, would seriously interfere with the legitimate rights of the existing labouring population.’”

Tied into this network was a Catholic Monastery which lies between Sheridan and McMinnville, close to the rail network.
        The Union Train Station in Portland, OR has underground tunnels where children were temporarily warehoused in cages before continuing on their journey.         The secret FEMA airstrip at Santa Rosa has planes landing and leaving all night. Some of these flights go east and then land at the secret 1800-square-mile China Lake Naval Research Base, and are believed to carry children for programming. This airstrip is called the SANTA ROSA AIR CENTER. When I tried to get FAA information on this airstrip they played stupid as if it didn’t exist, yet it is in operation.
        Near Santa Rosa is the Bohemian Grove, southwest of Santa Rosa, is this air center which is not used by the public. This airport was recently used by private pilots as a F.B.O. It was built during W.W. II as a training base for P-32 pilots, and deactivated in 1952. After the war, it was leased to private companies (such as the CIA).
        The paved areas are 4’ of concrete and can land the heaviest planes in use. There are no buildings over two stories in the entire area, and no control tower. The FBI have a contingent in the Federal building downtown Santa Rosa, and “FEMA” has a radio station at the airport. The Army reserve also has some buildings in the area. However, there is some highly secret activity going on underground at the airport. 6-7 small planes sneak out of the closed base a day, and for a base of its description that is closed, that is very interesting.”

ASEAN is out nearest “bloc” neighbour, population is close to 1/10th of total world population or to put another way about 25 times Australias.
