Water fluoridation is the controlled addition of Flouride to a the water supply to reduce tooth decay. But now researchers from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) and China Medical University in Shenyang for the first time combined 27 studies and found strong indications that fluoride may adversely affect cognitive development in children. Based on the findings, the authors say that this risk should not be ignored, and that more research on fluoride’s impact on the developing brain is warranted.

They analyzed possible associations with IQ measures in more than 8,000 children of school age; 26 studies (out of 27) suggested that high fluoride content in water may negatively affect cognitive development – suggesting an average loss of 7 IQ points (or more). Some studies suggested that even slightly increased fluoride exposure could be toxic to the brain. Thus, children in high-fluoride areas had significantly lower IQ scores than those who lived in low-fluoride areas.
In 1984, Procter and Gamble, manufacturers of Colgate toothpaste, admitted that a small tube of toothpaste contains enough fluoride to kill a child.
Australia provides fluoridated water for 70%, and while we keep on drinking Melbourne water and brushing our teeth with with flouride toothpaste – many other countries have and are banning Flouride – which is a waste product. There’s a growing amount of evidence linking fluoride to cancer, osteoporosis and genetic damage and most governments in Europe have banned it. Northern Ireland managed to stop the fluoridation of their water.

Some quotes: “I would advise against fluoridation.. Side-effects cannot be excluded .. In Sweden, the emphasis nowadays is to keep the environment as clean as possible with regard to pharmacologically active and, thus, potentially toxic substances.” – Dr. Arvid Carlsson, co-winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine (2000)
Water contains a number of substances that are undesirable, and fluorides are just one of them” stated Dr. F. A. Bull, State Dental Director of Wisconsin, speaking at the Fourth Annual Conference of State Dental Directors.
“I am appalled at the prospect of using water as a vehicle for drugs. Fluoride is a corrosive poison that will produce serious effects on a
long range basis. Any attempt to use water this way is deplorable.” – Dr. Charles Gordon Heyd, Past President of the American Medical Association.
