Earlier this week, my swimming friend was telling me about how she was trying to close her account and transfer money from the Commonwealth Bank (Australia) to another. She attempted to transfer the funds online, but a SCAM ALERT popped up preventing the transfer. The next day she went to her branch, waited for a long time, and just before closing time sat down with one of the bank staff to help her transfer the funds. At the end of a long process, the staffer said it was done and the funds transferred. But no, on checking her account days later the transfer had not gone through. She then went to the main city branch to get the transfer done. On arriving, she was told there are 21 people in the line — ahead of her — wanting to do the same thing. Her funds are still ‘locked up’ at the Commonwealth Bank.

Thus, the banking discussion on the new Situation Update might be of interest.

    Dee, you may wish to spend 2 minutes just looking at the begining of this video about volcano erupting in St Helens, in 1980, after 100 years of being silent. Ranger-type lady said a small explosion was heard shortly before it started.

    • Is it that it is that it is far easier for everybody if when a person gets a cold or the flu, we now diagnose Covid? This has been the case in the past that when somebody has a cold they tell all others that they have the flu. Nobody seems to acknowledge the difference. I had the flu once, back in 1969 and I can tell you there is a huge difference.

  5. This morning (Wednesday in USA) there was a big rallying of the stock market AFTER the interest rate was raised a quarter of a point. Later Sec’y Yellin spoke at a Senate hearing, saying she is NOT thinking of guaranteeing all (non-insured, I imagine) bank deposits. Thus the market fell, though one can’t know for sure if Yellin caused that. Bank shares in particular are in trouble. Glad I sold mine.

    Incidentally, the month of Ramadan starts today.

  6. Off topic. For the first time since 2010, the US has called in the Israeli ambassador, to have a chat about such things as abrogation by Netanyahu of the agreement concerning settlers.

    Tens of thousands have marched in Tel Aviv to protest Netenyahu’s revising the law to make some judges appointable by the government, regardless of the Knesset. Bibi was reelcted recently but is under indictment (I think).

    Recently, many retired US admirals and generals have asked for military technology to be sent to Israel to overcome Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Meanwhile, on the eve of Ramadan, the UAE has told Israel that it will curtail purchases of arms from Israel owing to the settler situation….
