Western Mainstream Media Continues its Sorry History of Decline

It was the great American writer Mark Twain who first formulated the maxim: there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics. Modern experience has taught us that there is a fourth category that could usefully be added. That is, lies by omission.

Three recent topics cast the maxim into greater relief. There are of course many more, but these three will suffice to make a point.

The first is the pandemic currently sweeping the world and popularly referred to as Covid 19. Here we have a clear distinction between a scientific view of the pandemic and the political view. The latter is expressed most forcefully by United States President Donald Trump, who persists in referring to it as the “Chinese virus”.

He is clearly followed by his loyal acolyte, Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison. The latter tries to hide his obeisance to the American view by protesting that his government’s call for an inquiry into the pandemic, that he attributes to starting in China, is no more than an objective call for a “scientific inquiry”.

There are several problems with this argument, even putting to one side the fundamental stupidity of calling for an inquiry in China when that country is Australia’s largest trading partner by a very big margin. Further evidence perhaps that the Department of Foreign Affairs no longer holds sway in matters of foreign policy, that role having been conceded to the Department of Defence.

The Australian government’s professing of only wanting an innocent scientific inquiry fools no one, least of all the Chinese government that has made its displeasure clear in a variety of ways. Further pain awaits Australian exporters as a consequence of this government stupidity.

The Australian government would have been a lot more convincing if it had generalised its call for an inquiry, instead of focusing on just one country. It hardly needs to be said that offending one’s largest trading partner, largest source of foreign students, and third largest source of foreign investment is not just dumb politics, it is incredibly stupid and self-defeating.

The point becomes even clearer when one looks at the actual course of events rather than relying on the Australian mainstream media. It is the latter’s approach to this virus that perfectly illustrates the point made earlier that the greatest lies are what one is not told.

The science now clearly points to outbreaks of the virus as early as July 2019 in the United States, followed by outbreaks in Italy and France. In all three countries the timing predates the first known cases in China which were identified in late December 2019.

Not only is the United States the actual known first instance of the virus, but it occurred geographically in close proximity to the United States biochemical research facility of Fort Detrick.  That institution was suddenly closed in July 2019 for undisclosed breaches of bio- security. The fact of the closure, its proximity to the first known United States cases of the virus, and the suppression of that fact in mainstream media both in the United States and Australia raises some obvious questions. One would wait a very long time before the Australian media even acknowledged the undisputed facts, let alone drew some rather obvious inferences.

The second topic to illustrate my point is the recent 75th anniversary of the conclusion of World War II in Europe. Even the mainstream media noticed that Trump’s speech on the occasion referred to the British and American victory over the Nazi regime and omitted mention of Russia. With Trump one is never quite sure whether such omissions are a calculated snubbing of Russia, or whether the man is simply ignorant of the facts.

The Second World War is known as such for a very good reason: it is not a European war or even the western powers fighting the Nazi tyranny in Europe and North Africa. It was a World War for the very good reason it effectively began in 1937 (or even earlier in 1931 if one takes into account the Japanese invasion of Manchuria) when the Japanese invaded China.

That war lasted longer than that period generally attributed to World War Two, and was marked by not only the generally known Japanese atrocities perpetrated on the citizens of the countries they invaded. The Chinese losses were exceeded in number only by Russia among the “Allies” fighting the Japanese and German war machines.

Such was the parlous state of the Chinese infrastructure during this long war that no one is absolutely certain as to the scale of the Chinese fatalities both civilian and military. The British Oxford University scholar Rana Mitter in her 2013 book, Forgotten Ally: China’s World War Two 1937-1945 (2013), estimates that total Chinese losses from fighting the Japanese were between 10 and 20 million persons. Other historians have comparable figures. Apart from Russia (26 million) none of the other allies came remotely close to these losses (about 1.700,000 for the United States, United Kingdom and France combined, civilian and military).

Since 1949 China has had a government that pays no allegiance to the Western way of thinking. It has been remarkably successful in lifting hundreds of millions of its citizens out of poverty. It is now the world’s largest economy, objectively measured, and rapidly extending that lead.

This and much else has been achieved in spite of, rather than because of, western hostility. Trump’s snob of the massive contribution to the war effort by the United States’ two enemies du jour is in fact a classic illustration of why the West will continue its relative decline and the world’s centre of social and economic gravity will revert to its historical home in the East.

The third example is equally instructive. In July 2014 a Malaysian airlines jet, MH 17, was shot down over Ukraine. A large number of Dutch and Australian passengers were among the 298 casualties. In what is a depressingly familiar pattern, the Russians were immediately blamed. Then United States secretary of state John Kerry made a claim that United States satellites had captured the whole incident, and allegedly captured proof of Russian culpability.

To those familiar with the United States and its various claims of which state did what to another state, the complete absence of proof ever being produced in support of Kerry’s claim comes as no surprise.

This is not the place to discuss the details of that crash and the so-called investigation led by the Dutch, with Ukraine, Australia, Belgium (!!) and later Malaysia, but it is a good illustration of a wider point. As with so many other events of geopolitical significance, the truth of the matter is at best an incidental supplement. Far more significant is that, as with my other examples, actual evidence is notably missing from the western mainstream media.

There is now the travesty of a so-called trial being conducted in The Hague with four citizens of Russia and Ukraine the defendants (all in absentia). Actual evidence has been seconded to what is literally no more than a geopolitical witch-hunt against Russia.

John Helmer, an Australian citizen resident in Moscow, is to my knowledge the only Australian actually covering the trial. It must be inferred from the absence of coverage by the Australian mainstream media of the trial that the pre-determined verdict is  “Russia is guilty” (despite the complete absence of any proof, let alone motive) and are happy to let this travesty of a trial wend its way to a predetermined conclusion.

As such it is a complete mirror of the two earlier examples discussed. The west has a predetermined narrative, set for geopolitical ends, and matters of actual evidence and factual conclusions play a non-existent role.

It is a singularly dangerous era to be living in and frankly, one is unable to see any improvement in the foreseeable future. We are all impoverished by this fact.

    I will guarantee that one lot of evidence that will not be brought up in that “trial” is the evidence of rotted corpses falling from the plane as seen by local Ukranians and the video of rotted corpses in amongst the debris of the plane.     Confirming that, I believe that more than a few Gumshoe readers will be familiar with USMC Lt-Col (ret) Field McConnell who also confirms the Diego Garcia story.

    Yes, Field McConnell explains the ‘ rotted corpses ‘ that were in an extreme state of decomposition found in the wreckage of MH17 in the Ukraine 4 months later.

    ( Those ‘ corpses’ were some of the euthanased passengers & crew from MH370 ).

    They were euthanased mid-flight after the ATI ( Automatic Tranquilising Infuser ) infused the cabin with a fatal toxin.

    Meanwhile, the aircraft , which had already been commandeered by the Boeing Honeywell Uninterruptible Auto Pilot ( BUAP) , as had the four aircraft allegedly hijacked on 9/11 , was then flown remotely to Diego Garcia .

  6. Well China fighting the Japanese was s different entity to communist China, also Korea and Taiwan were part of the Japanese empire so it was not really the start of anything when they invaded China. As for the Russians they just sold the missile and it was shot off by mistake.

    However, this they did with the sweat of their brows & their propensity for frugality .

    Meanwhile the U.S squandered its blood & treasure fighting wars for Israel while also engaging in destabilising regimes around the world with independent foreign policies & focused on financial chicanery.

    The Chinese people deserve their soon-to-be status of citizens of the world’s great hegemon (alongside Russia ) .

    This they would have achieved with or without the oversight of the CCP ( as long as they were allowed to unleash their entrepreneurial talents via a free market capitalistic business environment ).

    It could easily be argued that the Chinese became the great economic power of the world DESPITE the parasitic CCP lording over them . ( Communist Party support through subsidies of inefficient State Owned Enterprises acted as a dead weight on the private sector ) .

    As I’ve said before , the CCP may still be around in 20 or 30 years time but it will be in name only.
    Under pressure from the Chinese people themselves , the authoritarianism of the CCP is incrementally being diluted with each passing year & in the future their society will be considerably less restrictive than it is today .

      Never thought when I was younger that I would agree with a statement like that. If I hadn’t witnessed the fall of the U.S. in real time, then it would have been inconceivable.

      The great U.S. culture died after WWII. I am a person that knew of that culture of creativity and enterprise. What it subsequently became was a blight on the human race.

      My ‘Red Pill’ was Viet Nam, after that I could see the duplicity, the manipulation, the constant flow of lies.

      What does the U.S. produce today? What does it stand for? What can it offer for the future?

      If the PTB have decided that destroying the substance of the U.S. culture was in their benefit, then they are more deluded than I thought they were.

  8. Hats off again with appreciation James. I learn something new with every article here – not just yours. I am aware of, but have not pain enough attention to John Helmer. Per Duns Scotus’ link, I had no idea just how close Tony Abbott was to that ‘Poroshenko’ piece of work, end especially that Abbott was appointed one of his “international advisors” after 2015

    • I don’t believe anyone (especially Gumshoe readers) consider this ’Western’ mainstream media ‘Western’ – perhaps only the unwoke who still regularly pay attention to the likes of the ABC (cue Ned 😊). Rather, it was infiltrated and controlled by the ’illuminati’ (for want of a better word) a century or more ago. It no more represents ordinary people in ‘the West’ than those treacherously (I use that word pointedly) proposing to enforce mandatory toxic injections effectively under martial law.

  9. James – I could not agree more with you assessment of the ‘mainstream media’. Once upon a time the MSM was regarded as the Fourth Estate. It has been a fifth column for decades, and a graphic example of that would be the one sided coverage of the Chamberlains and then the Port Arthur Massacre, which was media coverage that became judge, jury and executioner, and that were acts of emotional banditry, that no fair minded media should ever have engaged in, and so, therefore, should no longer be trusted as sources of reliable and fair minded information.

    You don’t believe that Trump knows exactly where that weaponized virus originated? Do you believe Trump would ‘persist’ in calling it the Chinese Virus as you write, knowing that China is being boxed into a corner, if he knew otherwise? Do you believe that Trump is telling fibs?

    There are now 68 countries backing this country’s effort to have the Communist Chinese government openly investigate the source of that bug – do you believe that they are also mistaken in their assessment of where that bug became weaponized?

    The bug may have originated in the states, but there is ample evidence that it became weaponized in Wuhan China – and the fact that Wuhan was locked down for 76 days while the rest of China returned to normal after 16 days, says much about the real origin.

          • Fair Dinkum – I believe that anyone who publicly expresses an opinion is always open to criticism, fair and open criticism that provides another point of view that can get the person reading, or listening to it thinking – but you’re not about that at all as you have so openly displayed in your very nasty comment.

            No one should become ‘fair game’ as you put it because that is simply targeting to either score points, and/or, attack them personally, and is not to engage in a thoughtful and constructive manner that can open an argument into the exchange of free ideas, and/or opinion.

    • Nemesis, do you really think that this inquiry will be anything than fixed, as was the MH 17 inquiry farce. Morrison is a lapdog to the international banking cartel, as he has proved by the legislation he has had passed fraudulently in February 2018 and his intended cashless society legislation waiting until the virus passes on.

      I am not saying that the virus was not released in China, but I read or heard today that the first reported case was actually in the US. The other question is who had control of the Wuhan Laboratory?

        That bug was weaponized in China as being part of the the Globalist Pandemic to bring about their world financial collapse – the one we are all now in and that Trump controls, not the Globalists. The virus was meant to be far more deadly than what it has proven to be so far.

        Yes, the virus, as corona 17, was transferred from the U.S. to Wuhan as part of the weaponizing of it into corona 19 in the Wuhan lab as part of the Globalist 2020 program.

        ‘Q’ states that Fauci transferred 3.7 million dollars to the Wuhan lab in 2015 for funding to get the bug transferable onto bats – as to how ‘successful’ that was, I have no idea.

  10. Mainstream media tells us all sorts of rubbish and the journalists aren’t allowed to tell the good stuff or they will lose their jobs, so now we can only take places like Gumshoe seriously. The virus is the only story they have now, before that it was Russiagate for a year, and Brexit for a year, with a pinch of Prince Andrew and Epstein, and Kim Jong Jr blowing up the world. So what have we learned about the virus, it was planned and scheduled as a cover for the new great depression, and it takes out old people. This is very convenient economically because so much of the great Ponzi bubble constructed by the banks was flogged off to the pension funds, we even hear one major broker, maybe JP Morgan, would buy investments under a different name, when it settled 3 days later, if it had lost value they would claim it was bought by one of their pension funds, so they claimed they had made winning trades for 100 days straight. Since there seems to be not much money left in these pension funds, it would be convenient if all the old people up and died. The economic background underpinning all this is a bit much to be coincidence, even without all the emerging evidence that it was planned for, and that cures such as HCQ are being suppressed.
    Trump has shut up about it lately, and when you hear stories about how “they” are trying to poison his wife, it’s all very unsurprising. They will quite likely poison someone less important then MSM will provide a massive smokescreen for a month then Trump will become another puppet for them.

    • I have been told about people on welfare (disability) being nothing more than an insurance policy. I am still trying to get my head around the scheme, but it is a version of “Dead Peasant Insurance” (where Corporates insured their staff). This is more a private/gov partnership that insures the life of Australians on welfare or disability, so that someone makes a heap of cash down the line. Still investigating. Anyone with more Intel or knowledge of this?

And I am well aware that he CCP do not ethics and attitudes of the entirety of the Chinese people, but Chinese culture and values are intrinsically different to European culture and values and will never successfully mix.
