Eusociality, Part 4: Ideals and the Loss of Them

To backtrack quickly to the first three parts of this series, sociobiologist EO Wilson proclaims that 17 times in evolutionary history, a species (insect, mammal, and sea creature) developed a social life more than merely the ability to interact with conspecifics. In those 17 cases the whole society became like an organism; it can work as a unity despite being composed of individuals.

Wilson has not made up his mind as to whether Homo sapiens is eusocial.  He notes that in the 14 insect societies that are eusocial, the key element is the division of labor in which daughters do not reproduce; they stay at home and help the mother raise the young. That particular method of becoming eusocial did not happen to any primate species, including man.

Morality and Ideals

Today I want to develop my own theory as to how human societies stick together and may act as a unity. The dramatis personae in this story are group attachment, morality, and ideals. In a GumshoeNews article of October 5, 2020, entitled “How To Overcome Today’s Police State,” I used the work of Lionel Tiger: Men in Groups. It was written in 1968 and is under-appreciated.

He posits that a few men develop a bond, which others follow and that this gave early human society its “spinal cord.” Males were able to join up for hunting, defense, and to control the hierarchy. All three of those tasks require violence.  The whole group develops loyalty. Tiger says that the presence of a strong emotion indicates that the trait in question is needed for survival.

The biological theory of sociality was adumbrated in 1974 in Richard Alexander’s article “The Evolution of Social Behavior.” His 1987 book The Biology of Moral Systems tells how altruism could have occurred despite the Darwinian need for selfish behavior as a survival priority. Humans adapt certain traits for dealing with predators — namely other human groups. This accounts for group loyalty, willingness to obey a leader, hatred of traitors, and a brain that can strategize.

My 1990 book, Morality among Nations, takes Alexander’s idea of group selection up to the point of saying that we have two moral systems, one for dealing with outsiders and one for our ingroup.(Independently noted by theologian Reinhold Niebuhr in 1932 in Moral Man  and Immoral Society.

My work incorporates Robert Trivers’ theory that humans have a trait for reciprocal altruism. I do you a favor and will let you know when I want it to be paid off.  Also, says Trivers, we lie like rugs, as deception is part of getting what we need from our conspecifics. This may also account for virtue; we wish to develop a reputation as a good returner of favors.  If we have a lousy reputation, people won’t work with us.

Within Lionel Tiger’s theory of men in groups, there is an elite which makes decisions as to what is allowable behavior. The elite has authority and control. This is needed to avoid internal conflict. (Even species that have no articulated morality may have an alpha that intervenes in fights to get the members to cool down.)

I think it’s obvious that morality appeared fairly early in human evolution, given our painful emotions of shame and guilt. Or for that matter our sense of justice.  It is also observable that little kids know when they are being treated unfairly — before they have been trained in the notion of social justice.

Ideals

What has motivated me to write the article at hand “Ideals and the Loss of Them,” is of course the stunningly swift loss of ideals that we see happening today. Being a fixer-upper I would like to show how we might better deal with this authoritarian putsch, by knowing what is on our species’ bag of tricks.

God knows I’ve written a lot about moral principles, and ideals within a civilization. I have usually taken principles to be things we created and discovered, by study, debate, argument.  Perhaps that is true — once a philosopher or judge or reformist has made a good argument, it advances the insights of everyone and has great staying power.

But I never credited the brain phenomenon related to holding an ideal.  It does not need argumentation.  It is a hazy, nice-feeling thing.  Sorry, I cannot defend the neuroscience of it; I am speaking only from personal experience.  I now realize that what we value or hold good does not depend on the specifics of moral authority, but rather on our vague belief that authority exists.

Just now I popped over to World Cat.org to check on how to spell the name of the author of The Biology of Belief (2000). Ah, I see it’s Joseph Giovanoli.  But I also see a 2019 book there entitled The Magic Feather Effect — alternative medicine and the surprising power of belief, by Melanie Warner, and Eugene Newberg’s 2008 Why God Won’t Go Away: Brain Science and the Biology of Belief.  All I can say at the moment is that something in the human brain cottons onto beliefs.

Ideals also have, I presume, an innate receptor.  We first have to hear the ideals our parents or teachers promote, they are not entirely given, but our acceptance is a low-key activity. I am hypothesizing that we pick up whatever is out there and if it has the tone of idealism we grasp it. For me that would be the ideals I picked up as an American and as a Catholic.

Among the American ideals that went poof in the night, thanks to “the pandemic” are: free speech, the necessity of scientific testing and debate, individual sovereignty, and anger toward … um … snake oil salesmen. Generally speaking, to stand up for human dignity — something no one would ever question — has become the wrong thing to do!

I don’t just mean that persons in high positions knocked those things off by intimidation or even by closing down a society’s right to food.  I mean the public knocked the ideals off the stage. Sure it was essential that “media” — the voice of society — had to speak to get the message out, but the audience accepted it.

My interpretation of this is that our “thingie” in the brain, which was proud and happy with the traditional ideals, is not such a strong mechanism. It can be knocked over.

Another likely factor is that once we have been told that a new system is in place (Oh lookie, we’re getting vaccine chips, golly!), that takes over the spot formerly held by its opposite.

Evil Rears Its Ugly (or Lovely) Head

In a November 10, 2015 article at Gumshoe, I quoted Alexandr Solzhenitsyn on cruelty from his 1974 book, The Gulag Archipelago. He showed how a kindly woman was prevented from even giving a piece of bread to a starving man.  Here is a snippet:

“And where among all the preceding qualities was there any place left for kindheartedness? How could one possibly preserve one’s kindness while pushing away the hands of those who were drowning?

“Once you have been steeped in blood, you can only become more cruel. And, anyway, cruelty (‘class cruelty’) was praised and instilled, and you would soon lose track, probably, of just where between bad and good that trait lay.

“And when you add that kindness was ridiculed, that pity was ridiculed, and that mercy was ridiculed — you’d never be able to chain all those who were drunk on blood!”

The reason the woman could not give the bread was that a guard was standing by. We all see this today. The Bozos (as I call our elite) have given us umpteen warning that resistance to their new kingly rule will not be tolerated. I now think that the majority have accepted this new regime as an ideal — because that’s the way we order our lives by the dominant ideal.

An erudite contributor to Gumshoe, “Julius,” has been ransacking the literature to find out how cruelty emerged bigly in the period from 1917 to 1945. On of the Russian writings he found is that of Ilyin:

“In fact, what would “non-resistance” [to evil] mean, in the sense of the absence of any resistance? This would mean accepting evil: letting it in and giving it freedom, scope and power. If under these conditions the uprising of evil occurred, and non-resistance continued, it would mean subordination to it, a surrender of the self to it, participation in it, and finally, turning oneself into its instrument, into its body, into its cesspool, its playing, an absorbed element thereof.”

Let’s Go

Guys, we don’t want to do this.  I am claiming that the reason we are doing it is that the whole thing occurs quickly and effortlessly in the brain.

I wouldn’t go so far as to jettison all other explanations such as:

People give in because they need to keep their jobs,

People give in because they have told it’s only temporary — the crisis will end after another year or so.

People give in because some clever bastard has performed a mass hypnosis on them

People give in because they are in a cult.

All of those things may be true, but I am floating this new explanation: we are built for ideals; ideals keep our reality intact; ideals quell internal social conflict; we love the feeling of ideals and the way it unites us.  Rah, rah, ideals.

If someone has come along, in the Year of Covid, and shifted the masses over to a new ideal, we need to tell the masses how this cute trick occurred and how we ought to grow up and not buy it.

I am very cautious about the popular idea that people who have been very perversely treated can “create” a whole new order without reference to a transcendent nature and purpose for every individual. Concerning our present thread topic it would seem that “eusociality” is to be presumed to be the only, or final, arbiter of what’s good and true.

Hmm. Every pervert in the World has always thought that his (or her) convenience or opinion is the ultimate arbiter of all that is good and true and, recently, the way to justify that is to con, or coerce, “the people” to ratify the perversity “democratically”.

I have lots more to say about that.

    A couple of passages:

“We naively tend to assume that our media accurately reflects the events of our world and its history, but instead what we all too often see are only the tremendously distorted images of a circus fun-house mirror, with small items sometimes transformed into large ones, and large ones into small. The contours of historical reality may be warped into almost unrecognizable shapes, with some important elements completely disappearing from the record and others appearing out of nowhere. I’ve often suggested that the media creates our reality, but given such glaring omissions and distortions, the reality produced is often largely fictional.”

    […]

“Highly distinctive cultural patterns and social attitudes can easily seep into a considerably wider population, especially one that remains ignorant of the origin of those sentiments, a condition enhancing their unrecognized influence. A religion based upon the principal of “Love Thy Neighbor” may or may not be workable in practice, but a religion based upon “Hate Thy Neighbor” may be expected to have long-term cultural ripple effects that extend far beyond the direct community of the deeply pious.”

  3. Bullshit. It’s not mass psychosis. It is simple mass stupidity, the result of a failed education system and preoccupied parents.

Abmysmally ignorant people, who are too pathologically lazy to kick the social media into the rubbish heap, and then believe anything they are told, as reality TV has taught them.

    • I tend to follow that reasoning. Gawd damn, I’m so tired of dealing with dumb-shits.

This has become a culture that is destined to the dust heap of history. A ‘Dunning-Kruger’ culture that is too stupid to realize that they are stupid.

      • Very low level Mind Kontrol, just dumbed-down by laziness and a bit of basic brainwashing applied to conformists, nearly as effective as real Mind Kontrol, which is far more evolved and sinister. Not to be confused with MindControl™ which is mechanical devices operated from brain waves.

  4. “To do evil a human being must first of all believe that what he’s doing is good, or else that it’s a well-considered act in conformity with natural law. Fortunately, it is in the nature of the human being to seek a justification for his actions…

Ideology—that is what gives the evildoing its long-sought justification and gives the evildoer the necessary steadfastness and determination.”

More from Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago

  5. “So perhaps happiness is synchronising one’s personal delusions of meaning with the prevailing collective delusions. As long as my personal narrative is in line with the narratives of the people around me, I can convince myself that my life is meaningful, and find happiness in that conviction.”

PS – I have recently learnt that Harari is a buddy of Klaus Schwab et al. Perhaps an understanding of history and the psychology of man is essential for that role.

  6. “Cone, Lord. Because in these two years of pandemic madness, we have understood that hell does not consist so much in the suffering of the body, but in the desperation of knowing You are far away, in Your silence, in letting ourselves sink into the deaf horror of Your absence.
And blessed be Your Most Holy Mother and our Mother, whom You have left at our side in these terrible days as our Advocate, because in the vision of this hell on earth we can find the spiritual medicine which enables us to welcome You into our souls, into our families, in our nations, returning to You that crown that we have usurped from You.
Bless, O Child King, those who will allow themselves to be conquered by Your love, for which You did not hesitate to incarnate Yourself and die for us.
May this Divine Love be received with grateful wonder by those who, dead in Adam, in You, the new Adam, have been reborn; by those who, having fallen with Eve, in Mary, the new Eve, will rise again.
    May it be so.”

      • They are saying jews infiltrated in the 1950’s ??? How did they kick the mafia out ??? The whole Vatican is a front and the corruption and massive wealth is legendary. The money is all in Zurich.
They referred me to a website October1958.com ? I got switched to an advertisement.

        • The whole jews thing is so superficial as to be designed for the level of football fans, this is the intellectual level of “the fanatic”.

          • w3, The Jewish Prime Minister of England, Benjamin Disraeli said – “the world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes.” ……. “You never observe a great intellectual movement in Europe in which the Jews do not greatly participate. The first Jesuits were Jews;” …… (pp. 249-252)

In his novel Coningsby (London, 1844), Disraeli drew in a picture form the life of the Jews ruling the world from behind the thrones as graphic as anything in the Protocols of Nilus.

The head of the Jesuits is known as the Black Pope.

Black symbolises Nimrod, the founder of Babylon which is why you see black so much in religious and ju dicial circles.

          • The supposedly Anglican British PM descended from the jews of Venice, D’Israeli, had the job for a few years, remember that mayor in Melbourne, an Asian guy I think his name was John So, got the job because the fighting between the 4 frontrunners was so bitter.
I would agree D’Israeli successfully infiltrated but the power base running from 1. The Nile to 2. Rome to 3. Venice to 4. Zurich was not a Jewish bloodline.
Try to think in terms of infrastructure, social as well as technological as well as geographical.
I’m not in denial about Babylon etc. but it was nothing much compared with Egypt. Hanging gardens was just a water feature, gone now.

        .
“…………..It is paramount to note that on March 20 1990 President George Bush Sr signed into law a Congressional Resolution on the so-called Noahide Laws entitled House Joint Resolution 14 Public Law 102-4 Here & Here & Here.
        .
This Congressional Act potentially gives the Jews the legal right to imprison and condemn to death Christians as “idol worshippers” according to the 1st Article of the Noahide Laws which considers the worship of Jesus Christ as “idolatry” for worshipping a “false god” HERE.
        .
The Jews call this article of the 7 Noahide Laws, Avodah Zarah, enunciating it as a commandment: “Do not worship false gods as idols” Here.
        .
The bottom line is that this ultimately means the international imposition of the Noahide Laws by Jews. And these Noahide Laws, which potentially can condemn Christians to death, will be governed by the Zionists who are given ownership over these laws by both the Vatican and the US Government. …………………………..”

“ONE OF THE FINEST THINGS EVER DONE BY THE MOB WAS THE CRUCIFIXION OF CHRIST. Intellectually it was a splendid gesture. But trust the mob to bungle the job. If I’d had charge of executing Christ, I’d have handled it differently. You see, what I’d have done WAS HAD HIM SHIPPED TO ROME AND FED HIM TO THE LIONS. THEY COULD NEVER HAVE MADE A SAVIOR OUT OF MINCEMEAT!” —(Rabbi Ben Hecht)

      • That was interesting, Julius. I must admit that I was going to flick over it when Malachi Martin’s mug showed up but I’m sorta glad I didn’t. Even though I find those hyped up Yanks shouting at top speed very disagreeable it’s sorta encouraging to be in like minded company.

Re the Jesuits. Perhaps because Ignatius and his companions that founded the Society were “Jews” they had a good idea of what they were up against and how to counter it. Of course, the Synagogue was alarmed. It seems that the Jesuits had a pretty good idea of how the Synagogue would react. I think it was even in Ignatius’ lifetime that the Jesuits applied a rule that being “Jewish” was an impediment that would deny acceptance into the Society. That rule was slowly subverted.

The Jesuit mission was almost astonishingly successful for a couple of hundred years. In almost no time they had an army of tough, well formed men founding schools, universities and “missions” all over the Earth. As such, they were a prime target of the Synagogue. The rest is history.

The subversion of the Church hierarchy by infiltration didn’t start in 1958. It was well underway in a dark background at least 100 years before then.

Just a note for our Dubya 3. I think it’s most likely that the pristine young men in their gaudy costumes of the “Swiss Guard” are there to remind the Popes that Judas has their purse.

    • “……..Marxism, Socialism, or Communism in practice are nothing but state-capitalism and rule by a privileged minority, exercising despotic and total control over a majority having virtually no property or legal rights. As is discussed elsewhere herein, Talmudic Judaism is the progenitor of modem Communism and Marxist collectivism as it is now applied to a billion or more of the world’s population.

Only through thorough understanding of the ideology from which this collectivism originates, and those who dominate and propagate it, can the rest of the world hope to escape the same fate. Communism – Socialism was originated by Jews and has been dominated by them from the beginning.

    • Orrite, M M, (not Malachi Martin) you’re on!

Yowie (short for EOWilson) and M M are proposing that reason subject to the scientific rules of logic based on the commonsense “Law of Non-Contradiction” does not apply to superstitions that are required for submission to the “Brave New World Order” in which the relentlessly evolving “eusociality” will (almost inevitably) produce separated classes of humanoids; the rulers, the breeders and the workers because some notable insects have large colonies according to that system.

The underlying necessary premise for this prognosis is the nonsensical presumption that Nothing is relentlessly turning itself into Everything for no purpose; or a purpose that can be retrospectively applied to whatever suits the “Ministry of Truth” at the time.

End of summary. I didn’t count the words. If I win the prize, and since I have plenty of foody stuff for now, I would like you to put on your red suit and white beard and give the goodies to anyone needy within your reach.

Yowie and following Mud Minds assume that individual consciousness (with attendant intellect and will) is the result of aeons of “reincarnations” of varying levels of “no consciousness” that spontaneously erupt out of nowhere with no cause and no purpose.

There are many and various iterations of the “Cosmic Consciousness” and the “Hive Mind” that have been, and are, proposed for millennia. Blardy old Hippies that have changed their Nietzschean sandwich boards from “God is dead” to a variety of more subtle and more “woke” slogans like “eusociality is the future” should demand a decent salary from the Synagogue.

      • Getting Niggardly with the Biccies

Since I offered a prize for an 85-word summary of my article, and since Old David’s is 250 words, I do not feel obliged to make an award. Also, I now realize I should have made it a Contract and specified Delaware as the forum for any dispute. Also I have developed cold feet about the whole thing and retract the offer. (But to anyone who has already poured hours into it and was just about to enter the lists, see me in Delaware.)

Oh wait. I see David curtailed it partway down and it is only 115 words. What would a reasonable man on the jury say?

OK, so now I attend seriously to David’s proposal. He said (and this is not what i wrote) that eusociality will lead to a divisiveness. Actually, eusociality does the opposite, I think. Nevertheless I hasten to credit David for the insight that
“[the future will] produce separated classes of humanoids; the rulers, the breeders and the workers.” Probably that is already true.

But not “because some notable insects have large colonies according to that system.” Even Wilson, who has gone so far as to write a novel about ants, does not want us to imitate them one little bit.

Oh happy day, I see that David asks me to give the biccies to a local. I can do that. For Christmas I gave my neighbor’s cat a rug, so she can sharpen her nails thereon instead of on her Dad’s blue jeans. I will find a homeless person this week. Thank you, David.

        • Cop out, M M. You have substituted “divisiveness” for “separate classes” as if to imply that separate classes should be defined according to Marxian competition or war between classes. Don’t be daft! In a society well ordered and with moral integrity men and women, plumbers and priests, farmers and factory workers, doctors and ditch diggers, nurses and naturopaths, teachers and technicians etc. etc. can get along very harmoniously and symbiotically without “eusociality” like that proposed by Klaus’ “4th Industrial Revolution” and a “Great Reset” to change the very nature of human society.

You deftly avoided the fundamental point I was trying to make. All this “eusociality”, “Great Reset” and all that sort of perversity is predicated on the assumption that Everything is in a state of “becoming” what it will be from an antecedent lesser thing, and ultimately, Nothing.

You and your Yowie keep referring to “evolution” as though it was some magical stuff that can make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear; or, more particularly pertinent to this business, that can make Anything and Everything out of a lesser, or no, antecedent. Styoopud!

Etymologically, evolution means to “roll out” or gradually reveal something that’s already there, such as words written on a scroll, or a plan. It can’t create anything at all.

I hope your neighbour’s cat is happy to substitute your rug for its “dad’s” trousers.

  8. The Covid19 “vaccines” don’t work. They’ve admitted it, and now they’re seriously trying to tell us it’s actually a good thing.

    https://off-guardian.org/2021/12/23/super-immunity-pandemic-collapses-into-self-parody/

What “working” really means when your pandemic is nothing but wave after wave of meaningless positive tests and weasel-worded changes to the meaning of “cause of death”, is a different discussion for another time.

Indeed, whether they were ever meant to work, what they are actually for and why the establishment needs to push them so hard, are interesting questions for a future article.

For now, let us confine ourselves to Big Pharma’s stated intention: The “vaccines” are allegedly meant to stop the spread of “Covid19”. They don’t do it.

The “vaccines” are not even true vaccines by the traditional definition. People who have been “vaccinated” still get infected, and can still spread the infection to other people.

Such infections are called “breakthrough cases”, and their existence has run a familiar course in the media.

First they didn’t exist, then they did exist but they were rare, then they weren’t that rare but they were mild…and now they’re not just mild, they’re actually a good thing…because of “super immunity”.

That’s right, getting sick after being vaccinated might actually be good for you, according to a recent study, currently getting wall-to-wall coverage in the press……………………”

I would absolutely agree but suggest that it goes back even further, including WWI and the Diktat of Versailles as mere milestones. He insists that 911 was a mere ‘inside job’ and he makes a couple of horrendous errors in history which merely serve to highlight the very topic of that RTF Lecture and the theme of this Eusociality series by Mary.

There is some great discussion with the panel after Ed’s talk which goes for 40 minutes or so. I am buzzing with triggered thoughts.

  10. Remember Event 201? – how to respond in the event of a plandemic?

Well here comes Event 2001 Space Odyssey – how to respond (theologically) in the event of alien invasion.

    • NASA Enlists Priests To Assess How The World Would React To Alien Life – Alicia Powe

    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/author/aliciap/

“The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is recruiting priests and theologians to assess how the world’s major religions would react to the news of discovering extraterrestrial life and advise the agency on how to quell civil unrest upon the revelation.

The agency has enlisted 24 religious experts to develop protocols for the discovery of alien life in its Center for Theological Inquiry program at Princeton University in New Jersey.

NASA provided CTI with a $1.1 million grant to create the program devoted to researching “the societal implications of astrobiology” in 2015.”

    (and they’re serious apparently!)

    Which segues nicely to

    • Four things Israel wants to do – Sheikh Imran Hosein

    • I can’t help but wonder how our Joolyers manages to come up with the astonishing array of “stuff” that he proposes on a regular basis. Presuming that he is just one man he must never sleep.

According to the recently proposed question “how to respond (theologically) in the event of alien invasion” I suggest that it is a question that would be more properly addressed to “Yowie c/o MM @ glueshoe.

For a long time the SETI mob have been broadcasting prime numbers trying to provoke the “space aliens” to respond. Wouldn’t it be a bit curious if our SETI boffins asked the wonderful galactic aliens: “Where do you come from?” and the alien replied “We come from a bit of space junk ejected from Earth”.

      • Thank you oldavid – I will definitely take that as a compliment. By way of explanation, I work (remotely, online) for six to eight hours a day – it used to be more (10 to 12).

We hosted the grandkids for a Christmas meal yesterday and today is my day off. Interesting conversation – I refrain from proselytising but yesterday a certain topic came up and I started to provide a testimony of my awakening, particularly about Syria and then on to 911. I explained how only five years ago I had never given it much thought (until Gumshoe – Dee – WT7) and had not believed the ‘conspiracy theories’, and that I finally came to the conclusion that “Israel did it” (Christopher Bollyn et al). The youngest (16 years old) responded – “Oh come on Pop, EVERYONE knows The Swissys Israel did it!“ Well that certainly kindled the conversation! But we were too busy enjoying the superb meatballs in napolitana sauce and lasagne that my extraordinarily beautiful and talented Italian-born wife had prepared.

I glance at email notifications as they pop up and make a mental note. I will probably open about 20 or 30 articles a day and only get to peruse or watch three or four. I prioritise based on instinct.
Sometimes a single word (such as NASA / Aliens – Oh FFS!!) will only be triggered by something else later in the day. At the end of the evening (usually way too late) I email myself some of the links that looked important but which I did not have time to peruse. I shut down with 20 or more articles unread. Tomorrow I won’t remember a single one of them.

Most articles will mention one or several books as source references – I find them and download them (I rarely fail) and/or log them in a ‘book wish list’ file. At the very least, I know that there exists such a book about ‘such and such’ and I put it on my tsundoku list. By having the PDF I can scan the folder for keywords or phrases to do rapid research.

For example ‘Bergen-Belsen’ – and I will look at both sides
        • The JUSTIFIED Execution Of The Female Guards Of Bergen-Belsen

        • BRITISH WW2 DOCTOR REVEAL’S TRUTH ABOUT BERGEN-BELSEN
        https://www.bitchute.com/video/IvfFidXa3REh/
… and make up my own mind

I also note articles which are geo/political hit pieces and get a sense of the flavour of the propaganda … such as this one.
        • REALPOLITIK – Three Kim Generations of Misery for North Korea – By Sung-Yoon Lee
        https://rielpolitik.com/2021/12/23/realpolitik-three-kim-generations-of-misery-for-north-korea-by-sung-yoon-lee

I compare such articles to what else I THOUGHT I knew and I research the author and see what else they have written … I then try to resolve the cognitive dissonance and speculate as to the agenda of the author. I have a mental picture of a virtual pendulum on any given topic and visualise where it currently (provisionally) rests – and decide which sources I can trust.

If it is from the BBC, ABC or the Smithsonian then I KNOW it is bullshit – but sometimes even trusted sources let me down.

As Chalmers Johnson said: “I no longer read the New York Times for the news – I read it for the lies”. … [or the entertainment]. So you just need to glance at the headlines they are producing.

For any given article I initially skim top and bottom and print (Right Click – Print) most of them as PDFs into an ‘Interesting Articles’ folder.

In the meantime I switch off completely and try and set some time aside to systematically go through a particular website (or video channel) and collate the items in a dedicated folder. (it could be CODOH for example)

I get my vitamin D by taking my cats out for their x3 daily walks (they let me know when it is time) or going for an extended walk myself (with pleasure reading book in hand – nearing the end of “Shantaram” at the moment) – I inspect the fruit trees, potter with some weeding and pick whatever is in season – currently the blackberries are a real treat – a kilogram so far frozen for making jam later.

And I save time by not watching X22 – how a ‘one man’ show can produce that ‘stuff’ on a daily basis for the last ?how many years without having a single day off ‘astounds’ me. Sounds more like a sophisticated team effort to me.

Then Mary comes along and posts a new article with ten or more new books that I have never even heard of and I just go “Oh Shit!!“

        • Julius, you should not walk and read a book at the same time. Take up gum-chewing; it is safer.

I never list 10 new books. YOU are the culprit in that area.

But I thank you for your culpritship.
