Students have a voice on ABC

Tony Jones said after the disruption on QandA: “This is not what democracy is all about”. Tony, I have to disagree. This is all about democracy. In a country where the media is micro managed to facilitate a mainstream view – even on the ABC, this is an expected outcome.

The usual people brought on to discuss politics on the ABC – whether this be on Insiders or the 7.30 report – is old “experts” giving us the same old spin. I am so delighted to hear the intelligent and articulate questions from teenagers and students WHEN they get the (rare) opportunity to ask serious questions on any platform. But the answers are usually diffused with spin and excuses by our politicians, and often lack the vision that the younger generation would like to see. The ABC should embrace this disruption and learn from it. They might even improve ratings.
