Normal is a cycle on a washing machine designed for everyday use — a balanced mix of warm water, and just enough agitation to clean the usual stains.

Our global “normal cycle” has followed a similar pattern — some political friction, the occasional economic rinse, maybe even a regional spin (war) to shake things out. There’s always been a level of agitation — just enough to keep the system moving and the masses distracted.

But somewhere along the line, the settings were tampered with. Now, obliterating a 5,000-yuear-old civilisation is spoken of as if it were routine — the new “normal.”

What we’re watching feels more like the last gasp of a regime desperate to decimate its neighbours — drawing in the United States and slowly cooking its leadership in the process.

Maybe this is the ultimate washing cycle that will hopefully cleanse the stains off humanity’s filthy stinking laundry.
