False Flags and the April Glaspie Transcript of 1990

(L) Ambassador Glaspie (R) the Bush presidents in bronze

by Mary W Maxwell

The newspapers in Oz, for the last few days, have been sounding the alarm about a conflict with North Korea. Does this mean all debate and investigation will be short-cut and a decision about Australia’s need to go to war will be presented as a fait accomplis?

One cannot rule out that someone other than the apparent players are causing the NK “emergency” to arise. Let us look back to 1990.  It appears from the transcript printed below that the US Ambassador to Iraq, Ms April Glaspie, encouraged Saddam into action against Kuwait in 1990.

Did she do this for American interest? Does she even know why she did it? Did a war by the US against Iraq in 1990 help anyone? The number of soldiers with Gulf War illness – a terrible affliction – is officially 175, 000, not counting the many who died.

Patriotic loyalty is not what one thinks; it is kneejerk, subconscious loyalty to our group. That’s bad enough, but what happens when “our group” and “the decision makers” aren’t the same!

I quote John Coleman, in The Conspirators’ Hierarchy (1994). He happens to have been talking about the Iran-Contra sins of the Reagan White House, but it is relevant today:

When a private, well-organized little government inside the White House was busy committing one crime after another, crimes which attacked the very soul of this nation and the republican institutions upon which it rested, we were told not to bother the public with such things.

“We really don’t want to know about all this speculation,” became a standard response.

When the highest elected official of the land blatantly put U.N. law above the Constitution of the United States – an impeachable offense, the majority accepted it as “normal.” When the highest elected official of the land went to war without a Congressional declaration of war, the fact was censored out by the news media….

Our President lied, April Glaspie lied, the State Department lied. They said the war was justified because President Hussein had been warned to leave Kuwait alone.

When Glaspie’s cables to the State Department were finally made public, one United States senator after another went charging to defend Glaspie.

Coleman blames the American people for letting officials get away with what he calls “their vile lies.”

April Glaspie Talks to Saddam about Kuwait

The following is a transcript of a meeting Between Iraq’s President Saddam Hussein and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, April Glaspie. This took place 8 days  before the August 2, 1990 Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait

July 25, 1990 — Presidential Palace – Baghdad

U.S. Ambassador Glaspie — I have direct instructions from President Bush to improve our relations with Iraq. We have considerable sympathy for your quest for higher oil prices, the immediate cause of your confrontation with Kuwait. (pause)

As you know, I lived here for years and admire your extra-ordinary efforts to rebuild your country. We know you need funds. We understand that, and our opinion is that you should have the opportunity to rebuild your country. (pause) We can see that you have deployed massive numbers of troops in the south.

Normally that would be none of our business, but when this happens in the context of your threats against Kuwait, then it would be reasonable for us to be concerned.

For this reason, I have received an instruction to ask you, in the spirit of friendship – not confrontation — regarding your intentions: Why are your troops massed so very close to Kuwait’s borders?

Saddam Hussein — As you know, for years now I have made every effort to reach a settlement on our dispute with Kuwait. There is to be a meeting in two days; I am prepared to give negotiations only this one more brief chance. (pause) When we (the Iraqis) meet (with the Kuwaitis) and we see there is hope, then nothing will happen. But if we are unable to find a solution, then it will be natural that Iraq will not accept death.

U.S. Ambassador Glaspie — What solutions would be acceptable?

Saddam Hussein — If we could keep the whole of the Shatt al Arab – our strategic goal in our war with Iran — we will make concessions (to the Kuwaitis). But, if we are forced to choose between keeping half of the Shatt and the whole of Iraq (i.e., in Saddam s view, including Kuwait ) then we will give up all of the Shatt to defend our claims on Kuwait to keep the whole of Iraq in the shape we wish it to be. (pause)

What is the United States’ opinion on this?

U.S. Ambassador Glaspie — We have no opinion on your Arab-Arab conflicts, such as your dispute with Kuwait. Secretary (of State James) Baker has directed me to emphasize the instruction, first given to Iraq in the 1960s, that the Kuwait issue is not associated with America. (Saddam smiles).

The invasion of Kuwait by Saddam began in August, 1990. Some British journalists obtained the transcript of the Glaspie talk (above). They chased after her to ask questions. I quote GlobalResearch.ca, May 30, 2012:

Journalist 1 — Are the transcripts (holding them up) correct, Madam Ambassador? (Ambassador Glaspie does not respond)

Journalist 2 — You knew Saddam was going to invade (Kuwait) but you didn’t warn him not to. You didn’t tell him America would defend Kuwait. You told him the opposite — that America was not associated with Kuwait.

Journalist 1 –You encouraged this aggression – his invasion. What were you thinking?

U.S. Ambassador Glaspie — Obviously, I didn’t think, and nobody else did, that the Iraqis were going to take all of Kuwait.

Journalist 1 — You thought he was just going to take some of it? But, how could you? Saddam told you that, if negotiations failed, he would give up his Iran (Shatt al Arab waterway) goal for the Whole of Iraq, in the shape we wish it to be. You know that includes Kuwait, which the Iraqis have always viewed as an historic part of their country!

Journalist 1 — American green-lighted the invasion. At a minimum, you admit signaling Saddam that some aggression was okay — that the U.S. would not oppose a grab of the al-Rumeilah oil field, the disputed border strip and the Gulf Islands (including Bubiyan) — the territories claimed by Iraq?

Ambassador Glaspie says nothing as a limousine door closed behind her and the car drives off.

Houston, We Have a Problemo

It has just occurred to me that maybe the US soldiers were given the Gulf War Illness deliberately – by their “owners” – to make them too weak to protest after the war about what really happened. (Generally speaking, veterans are the best protestors, and are well-informed as to the realities.)

Not much has happened in the US since 1990 – more than a quarter century – to register the trickery that was performed ON THE AMERICAN PEOPLE by April Glaspie.

Theologian Reinhold Niebuhr saw, in 1932, that humans have a dual morality (See his Moral Man in Immoral Society.) We really do want to hurt our enemy; our survival is top priority. This makes it easy for a third party to take subtle advantage of our instincts.

As far as I can see, looking back at many wars, the domestic population of the aggressive country is very vulnerable to any stories that make it sound as though we must make war to save our dear tribe. The whole reaction is “automatic.”

Folks don’t want to hear the facts MAINLY because our brains are built that way. We trust our leaders. Period.

It’s time to stop this nonsense. The ones who do the tricking can be punished. Consider this minor incident.  During the lead-up to the so-called Gulf War, a young Kuwaiti woman told Congress that she had seen, in a hospital, Saddam’s troops taking babies out of their incubators and leaving them on the cold floor.

It was later found that she was a “plant” –and her “lines” were given to her by the public relations firm Hill & Knowlton, which is said to be a CIA proprietary.

What does the Law Say?

If she was sworn in as a witness before testifying to Congress, she can be charged with perjury. Even without an oath, one can be punished according to federal law, simply for lying to Congress. (It is said she is 15 — too young to be charged with crime; it is also said she was in the US on a diplomatic passport of her father.)

If it’s too hard to get a hold of her, the Hill & Knowlton people could be brought in for questioning.

Here is 18 USC 1001:

(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully—

(1) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact;

(2) makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or

(3) makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry; shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years or, if the offense involves international or domestic terrorism (as defined in section 2331), imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both. If the matter relates to an offense under chapter 109A, 109B, 110, or 117, or section 1591, then the term of imprisonment imposed under this section shall be not more than 8 years.

  1. Any person being encouraged to commit a heinous crime, if under-age by another, then the other being or group should face the same penalty that would be applicable to a person committing the crime on their own behalf.

    That is common sense.

  2. Mary, when do you sleep?
Most of this is known to us, over the years, who pass over the msm lying bullshit and polly warmongering deceitful ignorance.
But you keep coming up with succint reports.
    You are a treasure.
The msm is a stinking garbage repository, covered in flies.
The flies of course are the pollies and msm journo fakes following the UN globalist corporate banker’s agendas
MSM journos reading this, know what you are and how you are condeming your offspring to totalitarian serfdom.
Then again, I suspect the corporate mass media only employs you lot because they only employ the intellectualy deficient gutless and distract you with posies for chasing down corrupt local councilors et. al., and shove a “Warkley’ in you hand to massage your egos.
How about liing up Mary for a Walkey, who researches and comments humbly for ‘truth in journalism’.
MSM Wankers! The lot of you! Betraying our country, betraying your children.

      • Mike Willesee is up there with the gutless, spineless creatures.
After his ” never before seen footage” programme, I sent him the information that is in the public domain concerning the Port Arthur Massacre, and received no answer or apology on behalf of Martin Bryant.

The same scenario concerning Darren Hinch.

    • Dear Nee, I sleep from 5 to 6.
      Thanks for the compliment (really).

It cost $150 to nominate onself for a Walkley. Dee and I both tried out the last 2 years, so that’s $600 contributed to “the Walkley Foundation.” You may recall our entries as follows:

The closing date for the next one is Aprl 26. I suppose I could submit my Inquest book. or “any 3 works” (last year it was any five). I’ll ask Mal Hughes if he wants to nominate himself — for maoning about the ballistics evidence at the Inquest. By the way he has found that to be more problematic than he first recognized.
